Back in Time, Chapter 10

“Eve, let me in!” Julian shouted as he pounded on the front door to her home.

Eve rushed down the stairs in her nightgown and robe, wondering what Julian was doing there at that hour of the night. Where was TC, by the way, she wondered.

“Julian, what is it?!” she said after she whipped open the door.

“If you don’t remember us making love two days ago, then you tell me something…”

She placed her hands on her hips and shifted her weight from one foot to the other, waiting for Julian to finish.

“Yes…”

“You tell me where Nicky is; you tell me where our son is!”

“Our WHAT?! What are you talking about now, Julian?!” she tried to slam the door in his face, but was startled as Julian wriggled his way into her house.

“I know you thought I didn’t know about him…but when you left him with me that day at the hospital; I changed him, I CHANGED HIM, EVE! I saw the birthmark he had…it’s just like mine,” he gripped her arms, “Tell me where my son is. You can’t keep him from me. You can deny our love all you want, but I want to see my son…NOW!”

“Get your hands off of me! I have no idea what you are talking about! We have no son,” she huffed, “The only child we share is, Samantha, and if you can’t accept that, then that’s tough…”

“NO! Nicky exists, I know he does. I took a picture of him that day. You just wait,” he reached in his pocket for his wallet and pulled it out, “I took a picture of him with my phone and printed out the picture…here it is…” he stopped short and stared down at the picture.

It had been a magazine cut out of a little baby boy.

“Our little boy, huh?” she yanked the paper from him and laughed, “Go home, Julian, you’re drunk…something that hasn’t changed about you…”

“I am not DRUNK, damnit!” he hissed, “This is our little boy,” he grabbed the paper and held it up to her face so she could see it.

It was then that he noticed Eve’s eyes. She seemed to have remembered something…

“Don’t you see it, Eve?! He’s ours,” Julian gripped her arms once more and pulled her to him, “Where is he? Where is our little Nicolas?” he rubbed his forehead against her cheek.

“If you’re not drunk, then you are crazy. Maybe I don’t know where this “Nicky” is, because he doesn’t exist,” Eve pulled from Julian and ran out into the kitchen.

Where was TC?! Why wasn’t he there to protect her from Julian?! She needed to change her clothes before Julian tried to do something to her…

So, Eve ran out the back door and into garage, which was connected to the shed. Eve rushed to the laundry basket and pulled out a pair of jeans and a shirt. Seeing that TC’s car was there, Eve figured that he must’ve taken hers. But damnit, his keys were inside. If she were to go back and get them, Julian would get her. No, no, she couldn’t let that happen.

But, she remembered something! TC had his dad’s old mustang in the shed, and the keys were in there too. After Eve got into the shed, she opened up the door, and then ran back to the car and got in, but she suddenly saw Julian coming back from the front of the house.

After Eve had ran out, Julian ran after her, but didn’t see anyone in the backyard when he got out there, and that’s when he heard a car in the front. Once he ran to the front, he watched as Eve drove off in her SUV. Well, it wasn’t really Eve, but the neighbor who had the same make and model that Eve had.

And that’s when Julian walked back to the driveway and just happened to look back…back where he saw TC’s red mustang. A grin appeared upon his face as he jogged to it and hopped in, unaware that the person he was chasing was right in the backseat. And how convenient…the keys were in the ignition already…

Starting up the car, Julian put it into gear and took off into the night, after Eve…

That was, until the car began sputtering right outside of Boston…

“Damnit, Eve,” he hit the steering wheel, “Where are you going?” Julian said to himself as he watched her drive off into the fog.

Julian then sat back and closed his eyes, but jumped once he opened them for he saw a woman staring back at him through the rearview mirror.

“EVE?!” he turned around, “What are you doing back there? I thought you were in that other car?”

She totally ignored him and got out of the back.

“Leave me alone, Julian. I am going to go find the nearest phone and call Tc to come and get me…” she walked off without him.

“Eve, wait! You can borrow my phone,” he pulled it out of his pocket and handed it to her.

“No service,” she glanced at it and tossed it back to him.

“‘No service’? How can that be…we, Crane’s, have the best signal…” he looked his phone over as Eve rolled her eyes and kept walking.

Boston looked different at night, Eve thought. Strange, it seemed as if it looked like it had in the past. She shrugged and continued to walk, until both she and Julian heard jazz music. The both of them stopped dead in their tracks and recognized the music…the music coming from The Blue Note.

“That’s odd, I thought they tore down that place,” Julian said over his shoulder as he now began walking towards the nightclub, totally drawn to what he was hearing…Eve’s voice.

Eve didn’t know why, but she followed after him, knowing it was probably a big mistake.

They both entered and recognized the smoky club. It looked the same as it had in the past.

“How they keep it looking as it had, is beyond me,” Julian laughed as memories came flooding back to him.

“Yeah, wonderful,” Eve said sarcastically and turned towards the bar to ask for the phone, when she stumbled back into Julian’s arms, “J-Joe?” she clearly remembered the bartender from back in her singing days.

It was amazing; he hadn’t aged a bit.

“Do I know you…wait a minute, you wouldn’t be related to Miss Eve up there, would you?” he pointed to the stage, “You two could pass for sisters,” he chuckled.

Both Eve and Julian turned towards the stage. Eve raised her hand to her mouth and let out a gasp when she saw her younger self up on that stage singing…singing to…

Eve squinted her eyes to see who her younger half was focusing on.

JULIAN!

Then, everything went black for Dr. Eve Russell.

Twenty minutes later, Julian was hovered over an unconscious Eve. Her eyes fluttered and focused on the man above her…

“Julian?” she whispered, “Oh, Julian…I had the strangest dream…I dreamt that you and I went back in time, and that…” she stopped speaking and began looking around the room, “No,” she shook her head as the room looked familiar.

“Yes, Eve,” he nodded slowly, “It’s true; it wasn’t a dream, and I don’t have a clue how we ended up here.”

“You mean that you…and me…we’re out there too…”

He nodded again.

“I’ve been watching them every once in a while,” he smiled as he opened up the door a crack and peeked out, “They seem so in love and so into each other…”

Eve stood and joined Julian at the door and smiled when she saw the younger couple at their table.

“What happened to them,” Julian asked aloud.

She gave him a look and sat back down.

“And you have the audacity to ask that?”

“Yes, Eve, I know it was all my fault…I realize that now. I realize that…” he paused as he glanced back out, “What?”

“What now, Julian?”

“TC…” he simply said.

Hearing her husband’s name, Eve jumped off the sofa and joined Julian again.

“TC! He’s here too,” she said excitedly, trying to open the door.

“No!” Julian prevented her from leaving.

“What are you doing? Let me go!”

“No…don’t you see…this isn’t how it went,” he shook his head, looking her in the eye, “Tc never knew about us…what is going on, Eve? Why am I the only one that knows the truth? Did our love not mean anything to you, like it did me?”

A slap is what Julian got for an answer.

“Don’t you dare ask me a thing like that!” she stared at him coldly, “Our love meant everything to me…EVERYTHING, until you left me and our child…”

“Eve, I’m sorry,” he pulled her into his arms and attempted to hug her, but Eve pulled away.

“No…” she crossed her arms in front of her and sat down, “Don’t touch me…” she sniffed.

He was just about to sit next to her, when he heard a commotion outside the door.

“What is it?” she asked.

“It’s TC…he’s attacking me, I mean, not me, well, my younger self…he doesn’t want your younger self with me.”

“What?” she said, confused and stood next to Julian.

Eve watched as her husband grabbed young Eve’s arm and jerked her towards him, as young Julian stood up to him.

Why couldn’t he have done that in the past…to his father?

“I want to talk to TC, Julian!”

“No!” he yanked her away from the door.

“Yes! Let me go!”

“No!” he said and yanked her one last time to him and captured her lips with his, “Don’t leave me…don’t leave me, the way I left you,” he cried into her neck as he held her to him, “Stay with me,” he whispered to her, “Stay with me, darling,” he whispered as his hands reached for the bottom of her shirt, “Stay…” he said as her shirt was lifted over her head and as they both sank onto the floor of the back office at The Blue Note.
