Back in Time, Chapter 14

Young Julian got to the room first, well, after his older self and Eve. To remain unseen, the two hid in a room off in the corner that had a good view of what was going to go down.

A while later, Ivy arrived and walked into the room after she unlocked it. Well, she didn’t exactly walk into it; someone had pulled her in. That someone being Julian, who assumed it was Eve…

There was something that just wasn’t right about how Eve felt or tasted, Julian noticed. Ivy, on her part, did enjoy Julian’s company and didn’t mind his forwardness…so, she never pulled away, but at the moment when Julian knew he needed to find out who was with him, it was too late.

Eve had walked in, switched the light on, and found Ivy in the arms of a naked Julian…

Back in the room, Julian shook his head.

Poor Eve.

Not the one standing behind him, but the young innocent one before him. SHE was the one he fell in love with, and HE was the one that made her the way she was today…behind him.

“I’m sorry, Eve,” Julian whispered as he stood out into the hallway, while listening to her shouting and Julian’s many apologies.

“What?” Eve came from behind the door and asked Julian, “What did you say?”

“Nothing…nothing worth repeating,” he said sadly and walked off.

Down in the lobby, Julian placed his hands on the table and leaned forward as he tried to contain the anger and sorrow from boiling out, but he couldn’t. Using the back of his left hand and the palm of his right, Julian swept everything off the surface and pounded his fists down onto the table top.

“WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON HERE?!” the manager of the hotel shouted as he came from behind the counter.

“Sorry for the mess,” Julian reached into his pocket for his wallet, and pulled out a bill he knew would take care of the problem.

He made a complete mess of everything when he abandoned Eve in the beginning, and to “right” his “wrong”, he ended up making the whole situation into an even bigger mess. Why couldn’t he do anything right for once? Why?!

On the third floor, Eve continued to watch the spectacle from behind the cracked door. The young Eve stormed out while Julian, with just pants, came and grabbed her arm and whirled her around…

“Eve, please…you have to understand. It’s not what it looks like…I thought she was you…”

“If you think I’m going to believe that damn lie, then you’re seriously mistaken!” she yanked her arm from his grasp and turned to walk away from him once more.

But, Julian grabbed her arm again and spun her around, only to have Eve hock a loogie into his face. THAT was what caused him to let go and watch her leave, while he could hear nothing, but Ivy’s chuckles in the background.

Tears streamed down his face as he watched the elevator doors close. Not once did she look back at him…

Eve slammed the door shut and turned her body so that her back was up against it.

Young Julian was crushed. Was she doing the right thing? The two loved each other, and were expecting a child…but now, her baby would grow up without her father because of her…because she bullied Julian into this conspiracy.

Outside, Eve found Julian sitting in the passenger’s side of the mustang.

“What are you doing on the passenger’s side?”

“I thought you’d like to drive home,” he sniffed.

“Julian, you know, I was thinking…”

She never finished her sentence for Julian rolled up the window and motioned for her to get into the car.

She did and the two were off to Harmony…

‘Mustang Sally’ began playing on the radio when Eve spoke…

“Maybe this was all wrong…”

“Hmm, what?”

“Maybe…” she paused, “…maybe ‘Eve and Julian’ were meant to be together.”

If only they had known that it was too late now to change their minds, for now they were in the present…well, what they thought to be the present.

“We have to go back…I’m turning around…”

“No, Eve! Leave things alone…what’s done is done!”

“No, Julian! I won’t let them make the biggest mistake of their lives…”

“NO!” Julian shouted as he pulled on the steering wheel one way as Eve pulled it in the opposite direction.

Fighting over where the car should go, the two never noticed the big eighteen wheeler coming towards them, until it was too late…not even the ‘honking’ from the truck fazed them as they crashed head on with the truck.

“Eve, Eve, baby, can you hear me?” TC hovered over his wife and caressed her face as he called out to her, “Doctor, can she hear me?”

“It’s hard to tell at the moment, Mr. Russell,” the doctor lifted Eve’s eye lids and shined the light on her pupils, “Let’s just give it more time…I’ve ordered some CAT scans and we should have a better idea of what kind of trauma Dr. Russell is suffering from…”

“Yes, doctor…” TC concurred and caressed Eve’s cheek, “Don’t worry, sweetheart, you’re going to be fine…you’re going to be just fine,” he said and bent down and kissed her lips softly.

The doctor left, and that left TC alone with his wife.

“The girls will be here soon, sweetie,” he swept away a loose strand from her face, “As soon as I heard that you were in an accident, I left the carnival without saying a word to them;” he looked down, “I didn’t want to worry them…” he sighed and rested his head on her chest, “Damnit, Eve, what were you doing in my father’s mustang? And what was HE doing with you?” TC whispered to himself, until…

…Eve began stirring. First moving her body and then moving her head slightly.

“Owww,” she moaned out, “Julian…Julian stop…we…have…to go…back…back…”

“What?! Julian?!”

Eve’s eyes fluttered, and TC continued to question her!

“Answer me, Eve…why do you want Julian to stop? What is he doing?! If he laid a hand on you, baby, I swear I’ll kill him!” TC shook his head as he spoke.

And just then, her eyes opened and her blurry vision became focused as she blinked and kept her eyes on her husband.

“TC! Ow,” she sucked in a breath, “Where am I?” she looked around, “Am I in the hospital? Wh—what happened?” she asked as she touched her head.

“Honey, why were you calling out to Julian? What did he do?! Eve if he hurt you in any way you have to tell me! What were you doing with him in the same car?”

All the questions her husband asked confused her.

Julian? Why was he asking about Julian? TC didn’t know about them, did he?! No, how could he?

The same car?! What was TC talking about?! She hated Julian’s guts!

“TC, I don’t know what you’re talking about…but, anyway, what I am doing here? What happened to me?”

TC sighed when Eve avoided his question…

“You were in an accident, sweetheart…”

“Oh, no! The girls?!”

“No, no, Eve…they’re fine,” he finally sat down again and grasped her hand, “We were all at the carnival when Sam gave me the message that you had been in an accident.”

“Carnival? TC, what are you talking about? We haven’t had a carnival in almost four years,” she chuckled and then grimaced when she felt a shooting pain run up her spine to her head.

“Eve,” he smiled and laughed, but then it subsided when he realized that Eve hadn’t been joking, “Baby, this is the first carnival we’ve had…”

“W-wh-what?” she said in disbelief, “But…”

“MOM!” both Simone and Whitney ran into their mother’s room and hugged her.

“Whitney, Simone…you…you two look so…so…young,” she stared her children over.

“Mom, are you okay?” Whitney asked.

“Mom, what was Mr. Crane doing with you…in daddy’s old car?” Simone asked.

Eve swallowed.

“What?! TC, what is GOING ON HERE?! Why do you all keep saying I was with…with Julian?!”

“Eve, please calm down, I don’t want you to get too excited…we’ll talk about this later, okay?”

She caught her breath and relaxed.

“Okay, I’m calm…but,” she looked back up at TC, “Where…how’s Julian?”

Why she asked about him, she didn’t know.

“Well, the b*stard hasn’t woken up; he’s on a respirator, baby…serves him right,” TC said under his breath, while Eve gasped.

“What?” she said in shock with a hand over her mouth.

“They don’t know if he’s going to make it by the end of the week,” TC shrugged as if the bad news he heard were nothing, “Baby, are you okay?” he placed a hand over Eve’s.

“I’m…I’m fine,” she nodded to herself, “I’m…I’m just tired,” she faked a yawn.

“Well, we’ll just leave you to rest, honey,” TC kissed her forehead, “And we’ll be back in the morning…I’m so glad you’re back, sweetheart.”

“Me too, honey,” she smiled to her husband and daughters, “I’ll see you tomorrow…”

And the door to her room shut behind her family.

Julian! Julian was hooked to a respirator?! The father of her first born, she thought sadly, but soon those feelings of sadness faded, for the ones of hatred took over from when Julian abandoned her and their child in the past.

That night, Eve couldn’t sleep. It was nothing but tossing and turning…

All she kept dreaming of was that day…

She shook her head and stared at the ceiling when all she could see was Julian with Ivy together, in that hotel room. Why did he have to do that to her? Why?! For once, just once, Eve had thought that Julian was going to be the man she knew he could be, but, he just disappointed her all over again.

And because of that day, she and Julian broke up, and the day their baby was born, was the day he died.
