A Beautiful Mess

Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald walked carefully up the steps of the Bennett home. He swallowed as his eyes caught Sam standing at the door his eyes staring at Miguel.
"Chief Bennett, sir." Miguel spoke watching as Sam crossed his arms.
"So Miguel, who are you here to see? My pregnant daughter, or my heartbroken niece?"
Miguel took a step back. "Kay, sir. I came to see Kay."
Sam nodded his head. "And just what do you intend to do about Kay? My daughter is having your child Miguel, what are your plans?"
"I intend to do the right thing." Miguel spoke lowering his head. "For Kay and my child."
"What is the right thing?"
Miguel let out a loud sigh. "I want to marry Kay, before the baby is born."
"And do you plan to love her? Raise your child in a loving marriage?"
"I, I, I’m not sure what you want me to say." Miguel sputtered his voice nervous.
Sam groaned. "I want you to speak the truth Miguel. I thought you were a outstanding young man, that you would make Charity a good husband someday. I thought you could be trusted, but look what happened! You got my eighteen year old daughter pregnant. You lead her on and made her believe you cared Miguel! You lied to Charity and you kept playing with Kay’s mind. What kind of guy does that?" Sam growled. "How could you do that?"
"I’m sorry sir." Miguel frowned. "I never meant for this to happen. I truly believe I was with Charity that night."
"You expect me to believe that?" Sam questioned watching as Miguel’s eyes left his. "You can’t even look me in the eyes, how can I believe you?"
Miguel frowned. "You’re right, I messed up."
"I am very hurt at both you and Kay, your actions were simply wrong. Now look at where you are Miguel. You’re going to be a father, and I hope you plan to be a good father."
"I do sir, I plan to be there for my child." Miguel nodded quickly.
"I hope you understand that I expect you to treat my daughter with respect as well. If you marry her, you will be a good husband to her Miguel. I don’t want you marrying Kay, yet trying to communicate with Charity on the side. If you hurt my daughter, I will be the first person at your door Miguel."
With a frown on his face Miguel nodded his head. "Yes sir, I understand."

Kay Bennett smiled as she relaxed in her new bedroom. Her father felt it was best for her to have a bedroom of her own, so he asked Charity to move in with Jessica. It felt good to be free of her bratty sister. Touching her stomach she let out a sigh. She was having a child with the man she loved. She was so close to having everything she had always dreamed up, very close.

"He won’t marry her!" A voice spoke outside her bedroom. "He just won’t."
"Jessica." Kay muttered rolling her eyes as she stood up and walked over to her door.

"Jess he will." A small voice whispered. "Miguel will do the right thing." Charity Standish spoke.
"But he loves you." Jessica assured her cousin. "Only you."
There was a pause and then Charity spoke. "I’m not sure about that Jess. I think he has feelings for her, strong feelings."
"No!" Jessica almost yelled. "He can’t."

In side her room Kay smiled. "Oh but he does." She whispered. "Sorry Jess, but Miguel will ask me to marry him." Laughing to herself she walked back over to her bed. "We’re going to be a family little one." She spoke patting her stomach. "Soon, you, me, and daddy, we’re going to be a real family."

Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald walked carefully on the pier, her eyes searching out for Ethan. Chad had shocked her with his proposal of sorts, and although the idea was appealing, she knew she had to speak to Ethan one more time. She had called him, and as usual he was more than happy to talk to her. Knowing she couldn’t go the mansion where he was staying she asked him to meet her on the pier. Her mind was whirling as she thought of Chad’s words. If she married him, she would be Mrs. Crane again. Sure, he wasn’t Ethan, but Chad was a good man. He was a man that loved her child, and he really understood where she was coming from. She wanted to get back at the Cranes more so than he did, and this arrangement would be perfect.
"Theresa, Theresa! Over here." She heard Ethan’s voice sound out. Looking up she saw Ethan waving both arms at her and she frowned. He sure knew how to draw attention to himself.
Quickly she walked up to him, and he smiled brightly. "Did you bring Ethan Martin?" He asked looking around.
"Do you see Ethan Martin?" She questioned before she could help herself.
"Uh no, but I thought he might be behind you, with his nanny."
Theresa rolled her eyes. "Ethan, I have no nanny. I can’t afford a nanny, Julian only allowed me enough money to keep Ethan Martin clothed and fed."
"Oh." He frowned. "Well I’m sorry to hear that."
"Its fine Ethan."
Ethan let out a sigh, "So why did you want to see me?"
Theresa lowered her head. "I need to ask you a question. One simple question."
"One question?"
"Its a very important question Ethan, and I need a honest answer." She spoke crossing her arms as the cool air hit her.
"I see."
She took a step toward Ethan, tugging her coat around her. "Ethan do you think we will ever get back together? I know you say you love Gwen, and you plan to marry her, but I need to know, do we stand a chance ever?"
Ethan’s face turned pale. "Theresa, Gwen is carrying my child."
"I know that Ethan." She frowned. "That wasn’t my question."
"I have to marry her, I need to be there for my baby."
Theresa looked up at Ethan, his eyes moving away from hers. "So that’s a no?" She spoke.
"I care about you Theresa, I will always care deeply for you." He frowned. "You mean so much to me."
"But there will never be a us. Is that what you’re saying?" She asked refusing to let emotions cloud her mind. Today she had to be strong, she had to face Ethan, and get the truth.
"I’m sorry Theresa. Gwen is going to have my baby and I can’t leave her."
"In that case." She spoke begging her tears not to fall. "I won’t bother you again."
"What?" Ethan choked.
"I said." She frowned. "I won’t bother you again Ethan. "You’re with Gwen, and I have to face that and move on."
"But Theresa." He began, but before he could speak again she moved her hand out in front of her.
"No Ethan." She said, her voice firm. "You are marrying Gwen. She is going to be your wife. We are over, what we shared, its in the past. I just needed to hear it from you one last time."
"You sound so, so final." Ethan gulped his voice weak.
"Ethan, I’m not going to stand here and beg you. I just needed to know if we stood a chance, and you answered that for me."
"Theresa." He spoke.
"I hope you and Gwen find happiness Ethan. I wish you both the best." She forced the words from her mouth. "I guess I should go now, my son is with mama."
"I’m sorry Theresa." Ethan whispered. "I am so sorry." He gulped, his voice straining as she stepped backward.
"Ethan don’t."
"Theresa I hope you find someone, I hope you find a good man." Ethan spoke, his words seeming fake.
With a soft laugh Theresa looked up at him. "Who knows Ethan, I might just beat you down the aisle." With that she took a couple more steps back and forced a smile. "Goodbye Ethan." She whispered turning away quickly as she let her feet quickly carrying her away.

Tears rolled down her cheeks as she finally found a place to stop walking. Her breath was fast and her heart was beating quickly as Ethan’s words replayed in her mind. How dare he act like he cared? If he wanted to marry Gwen, let him. She was tired of him changing his mind daily. Well, she thought with a smirk, she wouldn’t give him the chance to change his mind again. Taking a moment she looked around and grabbed her phone from her pocket.
Dialing a number she waited as a warm voice greeted her. "Chad, its me. Meet me at the Book Café in ten minutes."

Chad Harris looked up from his seat and smiled as he saw her brown eyes looking toward him. Theresa walked slowly over to where he sat and looked down at him.
"Did you take care of that business you had?" He spoke standing up to face her.
She smiled lightly as Ethan's face froze in her mind, "Yeah, all done."
"Well that’s good to hear." Chad nodded. "So have you given anymore thought to my offer?"
Theresa nodded her head, "Actually I have."
"So do I get an answer?" He asked moving a strand of raven hair from her face. There was something different about Theresa as she looked up at him. The childish glow seemed to be gone from her face as her brown eyes studied him. Something had happened today that had changed her. He didn't know what, but he was sure something had effected Theresa deeply.
Taking his hand she smiled, "Okay." She spoke her smile turning into a devilish smirk. "Lets do it."
Chad began to laugh. "You're really saying yes."
"Oh I'm totally saying yes Chad. Lets bring Alistar to his knees." With a shrugg she spoke again. "And if we can take out a few others while doing it, all the better."

Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald nervously knocked on Kay’s bedroom door. His hands were almost shaking as he heard her voice from the other side.
"Come in." She called out.
He opened the wooden door slowly and peered inside, taking only a couple steps.
"Miggs!" Kay spoke looking up from her bed. Her blue eyes lit up as she looked over at him, a smile playing on her lips.
"How are you feeling?" He questioned walking over to her.
She touched her stomach and sighed. "Better, I had some tea, still haven’t had much to eat today though."
"You need to eat." He frowned. "You have to stay healthy."
"I will eat." She frowned. "I promise." Sitting up she looked up at Miguel and smiled. "So why’d ya stop by?"
Sitting down beside her Miguel touched her stomach. "Our child is in there." He whispered, almost as if he was talking to himself.
"Yeah, our child." Kay smiled.
Miguel looked up at her with nervous hazel eyes. "Kay, we have to do right by this baby."
Kay nodded her head. "Of course we do Miguel."
"And I’m going to be right there. I’m going to be a dad, a real dad to this baby."
"I know you will Miguel." Kay smiled touching his hand. "I believe you."
"I need to ask you something Kay."
Kay felt nervous as she looked up at Miguel. "Ask me what?"
"Kay, will you marry me?" Miguel quickly spoke, spitting the words from his mouth as he held Kay’s hand.
Kay’s smile grew wide on her face as she threw her arms around Miguel’s neck. "Of course I will!" She laughed.
Miguel pulled back and swallowed. His life had just took another sudden turn, and he could only pray that he was ready for it.
