Chapter One

In my daughter's eyes everyone is equal
Darkness turns to light and the
world is at peace
This miracle God gave to me gives me
strength when I am weak
I find reason to believe
In my daughter's eyes
Song, Martina Mcbride, In My Daugther's Eyes
“She’s beautiful isn’t she?” Kay spoke looking up at Fox. They stood in her daughters nursery watching as the little girl slept quietly. “Even when she’s sleeping she’s perfect.”

“Total perfection.” Fox agreed.

“Oh I bet you tell all mother’s that about their kids.” Kay joked looking up at him.

There was a distance in his eyes when Kay spoke and she could tell something she had said bothered him. “Your thinking about Little Ethan aren’t you?” She asked with a frowned.

“I miss him.” Fox shrugged. “But he’s Ethan’s son, I still can’t believe that, but its true.”

Kay frowned; she could still remember the night Ethan bounded into their house and announced that he was little Ethan’s biological father. He was so happy that he had his son and Theresa back; he didn’t even stop to think about the people they had hurt along the way. It wasn’t fair to Fox, nor was it fair to Gwen, but life wasn’t fair and Ethan and Theresa finally had everything they always wanted.

“You know he still is your nephew, and you do love him. If you want to see him, I could help.” Kay smiled. “After all he’s my nephew too.”

“What are you suggesting Kay? Because I haven’t spoken to Ethan since I punched him the night I found him with Theresa. I really don’t want anything to do with either one of them.”

“I was suggesting you visiting Little E one day when he’s here. Dad has been spending a lot of time with him lately. So if you want to see him I can just call you when he’s here without his parents.” Kay smiled.

“Very clever Kathleen, that actually sounds kind of nice.” Fox nodded. “I’ve missed that kid, it’d be good to see him.”

“Kay! Someone’s here to see you!” Jessica’s voice screamed from downstairs. “Get down here now!”

Kay rolled her eyes, “Would you like to buy a sister?” She questioned.

Fox chuckled, “No thanks I don’t need another one.”

Kay looked down at Maria and sighed, “She’ll be waking up soon, I hope this doesn’t take long.”

Fox nodded, “I’ll stay up here for a little while longer, in case she wakes up or something.”

“You’ll make a good father someday.” Kay smiled as she walked out of the room.

“You have no idea how much I wish that were true Kay.” Fox whispered lowering his head.

Kay walked down the stairs a smile showing on her face. She was happy, content with the life she was making with her daughter. As she turned the corner to see who was waiting to see her she stopped. The figure loomed in front of her, dark hair cut shorter than usual, and a frown were the first things she saw.

“You.” She muttered.

“Kay, it’s good to see you again.”

“Save it Miguel, did you forget where your daughter lived?” She questioned crossing her arms. “You do remember your daughter right? Maria Ivy?”

Miguel’s hands were shoved in his pockets as he let out a deep sigh. “I can see you’re angry with me.”

“Actually Miguel, I’ve been doing just fine without you.” Kay spoke. “Maria is healthy and happy, and my family is doing great.”

“Where is Maria? I would like to see her.”

“She’s napping.” Kay spoke. “Upstairs in her bedroom. Her nursery actually turned out quite nice once I got rid of those horrible colors Charity had painted my old room.”

“You seem bitter Kay, I’m sorry to see that.” Miguel frowned, “But I do want to talk to you before I see Maria. It’s very important.”

“What do you want Miguel? Do you want to work out visitation, because like I told you when you married Charity, I have no problem with that.” Kay answered.

“Actually Kay that is what I want to talk about.” Miguel nodded. He was nervous, his eyes looked down at the hard wood floor as he talked to her. “I want custody of Maria.” He spit out.

“You what?” Kay yelled.

“I want full custody Kay, I want Maria to have a two parent home, with a stay at home mother. I think it’s important for her.”

Anger flew through Kay, “The only mother my child has is me! How dare you come into my home and tell me you’re taking my child away from me! Where have you been Miguel? For the last two months where have you been when our daughter has needed you? Now you come back in this house and tell me you want full custody? Get out!” She yelled. “Get out right now!”

“Kay don’t do this!” Miguel spoke. “This is the best thing for everyone. I have Maria a beautiful bedroom set up in my home in Boston. Charity’s father has moved down and he will be our lawyer. He helped us buy a nice house with lots of room for Maria to play. She’ll have everything she needs there.”

“She won’t have me!” Kay yelled through tears. “I’m all she needs! I’m her mother, and you can’t change that Miguel. You can’t take my child from me, I don’t care who Charity’s father is, I’ll fight you! I’ll fight you with everything in me before I let you take my child away from me! Charity will not raise my daughter, she will not be her mother!”

“Kay what on earth is going on?” Sam yelled as he rushed down the stairs, Fox not far behind him with Maria in his arms.

“Do something daddy.” Kay cried rushing over to her father. “He wants to take Maria from me. Miguel is trying to take my baby.”

Charity Lopez-Fitzgerald stood outside, a tall man lingered behind her as she peeked into the window.

“You’re right she has anger issues.” The man spoke running his fingers through his sandy blonde hair. “This could be useful in court.”

“It might not even come down to court.” Charity spoke never looking away from the window. “Once I tell Kay what I remember, I’m pretty sure she’ll do things our way.”

“Darling I really don’t think this girl will give up without a fight.”

"Charity turned around and looked up at the man, “Trust me dad, when Kay finds out I know everything she has done in the past, she’ll stop fighting, because if she doesn’t, she’ll regret it.”
