Chapter One..

He watched her rock their son, a smile on her face as she whispered in the small infants ear. It was a beautiful sight, mother and son, and he couldn’t keep his eyes off of them. It had been three months since Kay Bennett had given birth, and Miguel had been shocked to see the old Kay return, just as she had disappeared. The day she came home for the hospital she stated she would make it with her son on her own. She even went as far as to move out on her on.
There was a glow on her face as she looked up at Miguel, a smile planted on her lips as she spoke to him. “Miguel, are you going to the doctor with me tomorrow? We get to see how much this little slugger weights.”

“Of course I’ll be there.” He nodded.

“And Charity?” She questioned honestly. “Is she coming with you?”

“Oh Kay, I don’t want to intrude.” Charity’s voice spoke as she walked into Kay’s small bedroom.

Kay looked up, her blue eyes sparkling, “I don’t mind.” She smiled. “Honest.”

She was Kay again, Miguel realized, the day Jamie was born, she suddenly went back to the person he had once been best friends with. He wasn’t sure what made her change, but something had clicked and in that moment everything changed for both of them.

“Actually I have a few things to do tomorrow.” Charity said resting her hands on Miguel’s shoulders. “You don’t mind do you sweetheart?” She questioned Miguel.

“Of course not.” He assured her. “Don’t you have a class in a little while?” He asked her checking his watch. “You wouldn’t want to be late.”

Charity frowned. “Oh I do, I have a Biology quiz today. I’ll see you later Kay, and Miguel, I’ll call you tonight.” She spoke planting a kiss on his cheek.

Waving she walked out of the room, and as the front door slammed shut Kay looked over at Miguel. “Something wrong?”

“No, nothing.” He spoke shifting from his position on the bed. “I was just watching you with Jamie.”

“Are you sure? You seem kind of zoned out today Miguel.” Kay sighed standing to walk over to Jamie’s baby bed. Slowly she placed her sleeping son in the woodened bed placing a kiss on her hand, and applying it to his cheek.

“You’re so good with him.” Miguel whispered. “The perfect mother.”

Kay let out a chuckle as she walked back over to the rocking chair and sat down. “Oh please, I’m far from perfect.”

“Kay, can I ask you something.” He began.

“Depends on what it is.” She smirked.

“What happened the day Jamie was born? You did a complete turn around, and I was just wondering what happened.”

Kay lowered her head, “You mean why did I stop chasing you? Why did I decide to leave you and Charity alone?” Seeing the look of embarrassment on his face she only laughed. “Its ok Miguel, I’ll tell you. When the doctor put our son in my arms I realized he was the only person that mattered to me. You love Charity, and if she makes you happy, then I have to accept that. Jamie deserves a calm environment, and I’m going to give that to him. I’m going to be the mother that he deserves.”

His eyes became wide as he felt his heart race. “You are going to make our son very proud.”

“Miggs can I ask you something now.” Her voice was low, uncertain as she looked up at him, biting her lower lip as she waited for him to respond.

“Anything.”

“Can we find the friendship we lost? I miss my best friend Miguel, and I want him back. I think Jamie needs that in his life.”

Miguel smiled. “I think I need that in my life.”

Kay closed her eyes as she rested her head. “I need to get Jamie’s bedroom fixed.” She breathed. “But there’s just never anytime.”

“I can help you, this weekend.” Miguel offered.

“I have to work Saturday morning.” She frowned.

“What about Saturday night?” Miguel asked watching as Kay rocked slowly her eyes closed. She looked so relaxed, but at the same time so tired.

“You have a date with Charity.”

“Oh.” Miguel frowned. “I forgot.”

Kay opened her eyes and walked over to the bed. She sat down next to Miguel, her eyes locked on his. “I can do it myself Miguel. Daddy might help me if I asked.” She sighed. “And I’m sure Simone wouldn’t mind coming over.”

Miguel dropped his head, “But I wanted to help.”

Kay patted him on the leg, “Its just a bedroom, its not like your going to miss anything big.”

“Still.”

“Miguel relax, you and Charity have a wedding to plan. I have plenty people that will help me with the little stuff.” She yawned and relaxed against her pillow.

“When the last time you got a good nights sleep?” Miguel frowned.

“Three months ago?” She joked. “Actually Jaime kept me up last night, but I didn’t mind.”

“Then you should rest.”

She shook her head no, “I can’t Jamie might wake up.”

“And I’ll be here when he does.” Miguel smiled. “Now just go to sleep Kay, let me take care of our son for a little while.”

Kay frowned. “Are you sure you can handle it?”

“I think I can take care of my son Kay, now please just try to rest of a little while.”

Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald watched as Kay slowly drifted off to sleep. He stood up and walked over to Jamie’s crib. “Your mother is full of surprises Jaime.” He sighed. “And daddy has no idea what to think about it.”

Fox Crane smiled as he walked into Theresa Lopez-Fitzgerald’s living room. He heard her singing in the other room and sighed, since Gwen had left Ethan, Theresa had been over the top happy.

“Fox is that you?” Theresa’s voice sounded as she strolled in the room a bright grin on her face.

“The one and only.” He smirked as she walked into view in a short sleeveless black dress. “And let me just say your looking very nice today.”

“You think so?” She questioned. “Ethan’s coming over and I do want to look my best.”

“Ethan.” Fox sighed. “Of course I should have known.”

Theresa giggled lightly, “I really think it might work for us now Fox. When Gwen left Ethan, he told me that the first person he thought about was me.”

Fox rolled his eyes, “I would have thought he would’ve thought about his child, but this is Ethan so thinking of a woman first does make sense.”

“Fox.” Theresa scolded. “Ethan loves his little girl, but we can make it work this time. I just know we can.”

“Well that’s just great.” Fox spoke crossing his arms. “I hope it does work out this time Theresa, but I wonder what will you do when another woman comes along that catches his eye?”

“There is no other woman.” Theresa smiled. “Ethan and I belong together its..”

“Fate.” Fox spoke for her. “I know the drill.” Shaking his head he walked over and sat down in the soft blue chair facing the window. Glancing at the lamp stand beside him, he saw a picture and picked it up.

“Fate is real Fox, and I know that Ethan and I will be together.”

“Theresa, this girl in the picture, she looks familiar.” He spoke showing her he photo of the young woman holding a tiny infant.

“Oh, Kay?” Theresa spoke. “She’s Sam Bennett’s daughter.” Theresa explained taking the picture in her hands. “And the beautiful little boy is my nephew Jamie.”

“Why isn’t your brother in the picture with her?”

Theresa smiled. “Because he’s not with Kay. I told you all about that Fox, remember one night when we were talking. I was telling you about how much Charity and Miguel loved each other.”

Fox shrugged his shoulders. “I must have zoned out.”

“Do you do that a lot?” Theresa asked crossing her arms. “Zone out when I’m speaking?”

Fox smirked. “Well you do say a lot. When you start rattling on and on sometimes I do forget what you said.”

“Gee thanks.” Theresa frowned.

“I was joking Theresa, but seriously why isn’t your brother with Kay Bennett? She’s stunning.”

“She’s not his soul mate.” Theresa spoke shaking her head. “He belongs with Charity.”

“Well he made a kid with Kay, so he must have liked something about her.”

“He thought she was Charity, but that’s beside the point.” Theresa huffed.
“Kay is Miguel’s friend, he’ll always be there for his child. What he shares with Charity is much like what I share with Ethan.”

“I see.” Fox spoke standing from his position on the chair. “So if your brother isn’t with the lovely Kay Bennett, who is she with?”

“No one.” Theresa said looking up at him. “Fox don’t get any ideas. Kay just had a baby, and she is trying to get over my brother.”

“Maybe I can help her recover a little faster.” Fox winked glancing back at the photo one more time.

Rolling her eyes Theresa sighed. “You could never be a one woman man Fox Crane.” She chuckled. “Besides I don’t think you could handle Kay Bennett.”

“Oh really?”

“Really.” Theresa smiled. “She’s not ditzy like the women you entertain.”

“This sounds like a challenge.” Fox spoke.

“A Challenge?” Theresa questioned. “No Fox it’s not a challenge.”

“Sounds like one to me.” He grinned. “I’ll talk to you later beautiful, I have a few things I have to do.”

“Fox wait!” Theresa called watching as he walked out the door. “Oh dear.” She frowned. “What did I just do?”

Whitney Russell stared up at the pair of blue eyes that seemed to captivate her.

“If Theresa finds out she’ll hate me.” She whimpered clutching the man’s hand.

“You’ve been here for me.” Ethan softly whispered. “You understand me.”

“No Ethan, we just can’t keep this up. What about Chad? I love Chad.”

“And I love Theresa, but not like I once did.” Ethan sighed. “Whitney, I know this is hard.”

“Hard?” Whitney cried. “I’ve been sneaking around with the only man my best friend will ever love. You’re Chad’s best friend, this is crazy, its wrong.”

Ethan looked at her, “Then why does it feel right?” He spoke as his lips captured hers.
