Chapter 6

~*~*~*~*~

Charity combed through her damp hair and walked upstairs to find Chad sitting on a bed his hands in his hair.
"You don’t look so good." Charity said sitting down next to him. "Wanta talk about it?"
Chad looked at her, "I love her, why can’t she see that? Why doesn’t Resa understand?"
Charity frowned. "Have you thought about it from her point of view? Put yourself in her shoes?" Charity quizzed.
"I know she’s been through a lot but I’m the one that can help her heal those wounds."
Charity shook her head. "She has to do that on her own. Chad when you find Theresa don’t pressure her. Just be there for her. Give her the time she needs and in the end, she’ll respect you for that." Charity said putting her hand on his.
Chad forced a smile. "Now how’d you become so dang smart?" He asked looking at Charity.
"I don’t know, just born that way?" She smiled. "All I’m saying is find Theresa, and figure out what she needs. Then you’ve got to go from there."
"Charity, just so you know, I’m glad you’re here." Chad smiled. "Its good to have a friendly face from home here."
Charity let out a laugh. "But you have Bray, and he seems like such a delightful person."
"He’s a good guy, you just got off to a bad start." Chad smiled.
"No, we got off to a horrible start and it hasn’t gotten any better. " Charity said frowning. " He grates my nerves."
Chad looked at Charity, she was so different now, her sugary sweet tone had left, and she was real. "Charity can I ask you something? I mean it’s been buggin’ me." Chad said looking at her.
"Go for it."
"Well, in Harmony you were totally sweet, little Miss Perfect ya know? You were so nice it was actually scary." He laughed. "Why?"
"Why was I so sweet?" She laughed laying back on the bed. " I don’t know, out of fear maybe?" Charity said thinking.
"Fear?"
Charity sat back up. "Well its like this, I lost my mother and my memory, I found myself in a new place with this family, I wanted them to like me I guess." She shrugged. "And I was scared they wouldn’t like me so I became so sweet. I mean things bothered me all the time, Aunt Grace’s cooking, Kay’s need to control things, the way Simone followed Kay around even though I could tell she hated, but what could I do? I wanted to scream at times living in that house, but couldn’t. I was the niece, the cousin, not one of the Bennett kids. So, I became sweet Charity. I wanted people to like me and it worked." She said looking at Chad.
"Whoa girl. Never really thought about it like that." Chad sighed. "When I came to town I just stayed real ya know?"
Charity nodded. "But I didn’t know what real was." She laughed. "I didn’t know who I was. " Looking at Chad, Charity frowned. " I wish I could remember the Charity I used to be, but I can’t. I’m just doing what feels right now. "
Chad grinned. "Maybe you’ve found the old you again and just don’t know it."
Charity smiled. "Maybe I have. I hope so."
Chad stood up and looked down at Charity, "I better get downstairs and find Bray, With any luck I’m going to find Resa today." He said as Charity smiled up at him.
"Chad, what’s it like?" She questioned in riddle.
"What’s, what like?"
"Loving someone so much nothing else matters, what’s it like?" She asked again.
Chad let out a huge breath. "It’s scary and wonderful at the same time girl. There’s nothing else like it."
She nodded. "Well you better go find Theresa."
"Yeah. Thanks for the talk Charity." Chad answered back as he left the room.
Charity fell back down on the bed. "No problem." She spoke to herself.

A Hour Later

Chad looked at Bray as they pulled up to a service station. "Man don’t you ever watch your gas tank?" He questioned.
" I can’t help that it’s on empty. " Bray answered back.
"I’m sorry, I guess I just wanta go find Theresa." Chad frowned.
"Don’t worry about it Chad. You love the girl right? Can’t stop that." Bray shrugged getting out to put gas in his car.
Chad sat back in his seat, he felt helpless and he hated it. Love was something that was special to him, it meant doing whatever it took for that person, making sure they were happy. But it also meant making sure you felt happy as well, that both people felt complete. And Chad knew that neither he or Theresa felt complete right now. She was the one for him, the one person in the world he wanted to grow old with and he felt stuck at the moment. He’d never felt as alone as he did without her. Love wasn’t suppose to hurt, but it did. He knew life wasn’t fair, he knew that better than anyone, all he wanted was to look in those eyes he loved, see that smile that shined from the face of his one true love. All he wanted was to hold Theresa in his arms again and make sure she knew he’d never hurt her. That’s all he wanted.

Bray walked into the small store to the pay for his gasoline. He smiled at the young lady in front of him, her long hair flowed down her shoulders in waves, the dark color of her hair matched her big brown eyes as they stared at him.
"That will be $11.10." The girl spoke.
Handing her the money Bray smiled. "Do I know you?" He asked looking at her again.
"Not that I know of. I haven’t been in town long." She smiled.
" You just look so familiar. " Bray noted.
"Sorry, must be someone else." She said giving him his change.
"Yeah it must." He said as he walked out the door.
Bray shook his head as he walked toward his car. Getting in he looked over at Chad. " You ready?"
"I’ve been ready." Chad laughed holding a picture of Theresa in his hand.
Glancing at it Bray blinked and looked at it again. "Man is that Theresa?" He questioned staring down at the photo.
"Yeah. She’s something else isn’t she?" Chad beamed.
Bray looked at Chad the back toward the store. "Man, you are not going to believe this."
"Believe what?" Chad questioned confused.
"Theresa. I’ve found her man. She works in that store." He said pointing toward the door.
Chad felt his mouth fall open. "My Theresa? Are you sure?"
Bray nodded. "I’m telling you Harris its her. She is working in there right now."
Chad opened the car door. "I’ve gotta go talk to her. Bray this is amazing man." He said jumping out of the car almost running into the store. He paid no attention to the other people in the store, he just ran toward the counter as he saw the girl her back toward him. Chad knew the moment he saw her hair, her figure, he knew it was Theresa.
"May I help you." She said turning around.
"Resa baby I found you." Chad whispered looking at her as she turned around.
Theresa froze in her tracks. She was face to face with the man she loved. Chad had came to Texas to find her.
