Dangerous Liaisons, Chapter 3 (Should I Stay?)

Chapter Three
Whitney found herself in Greenfield South Carolina. She had met wonderful
people there. The kind of people who made her re-evaluate her life. Fox
is a womderful man and she did love him just not the way he needed and deserved.
He deserved more than a pervert freak who may be carrying her brother’s
child. She had confessed to Mrs. Margaret her sins. She helped her see that
it was not her fault because she did not know. She stood outside the door
of the Crane mansion wondering if she should stay. As she turned away Fox
stopped her.
“What are you doing here?" His first thought was to go Crane on her
and threaten to never let her see their child again.
“You come to drive the knife deeper?” He cut.
“No I needed to be honest with you.” She sat on the steps not being able
to face him.
“I used you the first time we made love. I needed to forget about Chad.
This child could be his, Fox. Haven’t you ever wondered about that? I love
you and it was unexpected. I used you to get over Chad but I did not expect
to fall. You were so good to me Fox. You had a way of making me forget for
moments at a time. Let’s get real Fox, I don’t deserve you. Why do you want
a pervert? What if the child turns out to be Chad’s? How can you handle that?
I wanted an abortion but couldn’t and I could not risk the chance of the child
not being yours. So I went to give it up for adoption. I also came to ask
for your help. If this child is not yours, please claim it. Then we can sign
over our rights and spare him the stigma of being born into incest.” She
cried.
“You don’t deserve me. No one who seeks to use me does. That is unforgivable.
I have no love lost for Chad. You have been through so much and I am so
sorry about that baby.” He hugged her against his will. Was tender against
his will.
“You did things out of circumstance. Whit, you broke my heart. That takes
some dealing with but I will help you. As long as I am here this is your
home as well.” She noticed his tears as they hugged.
“Thank you so much Fox. “ He helped her inside. Theresa ran to her but
the reunion was short lived when a stranger came inside the corridor.
“Who are you?” Theresa asked as her eyes locked with his.
“Jared Casey. I have been hired by Mr. Crane to serve as your protection.
For now I am guarding the house as well. He wants to gradually add more
security. It appears that one of Crane’s competitors engaged in shady business
dealings and now Crane is being affiliated with that. They are powerful
and dangerous.” He said as the rest of the group sat down trying to grasp
what he said.
