ACT TWO – CHAPTER EIGHT

Julian was tapping his fingers on the armrest of his seat as he wished this flight would hurry up. He couldn’t believe that it took this long to fly from Italy to the States. Allegra stared evilly at Julian as he continued to tap on the armrest. His constant tapping was driving her crazy! She rolled up the magazine she was reading then turned and popped him hard across the hand.

“What the hell?!” Julian shouted as he grabbed his stinging hand then turned to Allegra, who had this smug smile on her face. “Was that really called for?!”

“You damn straight it was. Will you relax already?” she scoffed.

“Well I can’t.”

“Well then go to sleep.”

“I wish I could…”

Allegra turned to face him.

“Julian, everything will be fine. Just take a deep breath and relax.”

“Alright.”

Carlo was pacing back and forth in the waiting room of the hospital. On the way there, he called Ivy and Marco and told them what had happened. They had yet to arrive as he suddenly stopped pacing as the doctor who he greeted earlier appeared.

“Doctor, how’s Eve?!” Carlo said as he grabbed the doctor by the front of his white coat.

“Calm down sir please? Harming me won’t solve things.” The doctor said in a frightened voice.

“Carlo!” Some calling him made him release his hold on the doctor to see who it was. He then noticed Ivy running up to him holding William in her arms and Marco not far behind her.

“Ivy, I’m glad you’re here.” He said.

“How’s Eve?” Marco said as he finally made it over to the two of them.

“I don’t know yet, the doctor hasn’t told me.” He glared at the doctor standing next to Ivy.

“Excuse me, I’m Ivy Winthrop and Eve Crane is my best friend… What’s going on?”

“I was about to tell the gentleman here, but he grabbed before I could.” He looked at Carlo.

“Just tell us.” Carlo scoffed.

“Alright. After evaluating Dr. Crane, I came to the conclusion that she is apparently under stress and that’s what caused her to pass out. Furthermore, I would suggest that from now on, you all keep a closer eye on her. This stress is not good for her or her unborn child. This time she was lucky, hopefully there won’t a next time.”

“You have my word, I won’t let her out of my site anymore.” Ivy said in a serious voice.

Carlo walked away from Ivy and the doctor as he suddenly got this idea. Marco didn’t like the way Carlo was looking, so he walked over to him.

“What really happened to Eve, Carlo?”

“What are you getting at?!” Carlo sneered. “You think I did this to her?!”

“I didn’t say anything, you did.”

“I would never hurt her. I love her.”

“You bastard, you already have.” Marco spat.

Ivy walked over towards both brothers once she was finish talking to the doctor.

“What going on?”

“Nothing, we were just discussing some things.” Marco said as he took William from her.

“Are you sure it’s nothing? I mean, it did look a little intense.”

“We’re fine.”

“Well, the doctor just told me I can go see her now.” She said as she took William back from Marco. “C’mon honey, you want to see your momma?”

William nodded.

“Let’s go.”

After sixteen hours nonstop from Italy, Julian was finally home in Harmony. As he and Allegra exited the terminal, he looked around his surroundings and breathed in the air. “Home.” He said as a smile graced his lips.

“Wow… so this is Harmony.” Allegra said as she looked around as well.

“That’s what it says.”

“C’mon, let’s go catch a cab and head over the hotel.

“Alright.”

Once they took the cab to the hotel that they would be staying in, they went their separate ways and went to their rooms. Julian sat down on his bed and ran a hand through his hair. He then stood up, walked over to the door and as he opened it found Allegra about to knock.

“We need to come up with a plan for tomorrow.”

“Alright, but let’s first eat. I’m starving.” Julian said.

Eve was sleeping softly when she heard her room door being opened. She opened her eyes to find Ivy and William walking over towards her. Once they were standing by her bed, she reached her hand out and touched William’s face.

“Hey there handsome.”

“Momma!” William shouted.

“How are you feeling Eve?” Ivy said as she sat down in the chair next to Eve’s bed and rested William on her lap.

“Tired.” She whined. “So what did Dr. Samuels tell you?”

“That you’re stressed out. How did this happen?”

“Carlo.” She scoffed.

“Carlo?” Ivy repeated.

“Yeah.”

Ivy was confused now.

“I’m not following.”

“Carlo and I talked earlier on the wharf. And it was really disturbing.

“What did he do?” Ivy said in an angry voice.

Julian and Allegra decided to eat at this fast food restaurant that was close to the hotel. Allegra had been playing with her fries for what seemed like hours, as Julian was finishing off the rest of his burger.

“Something wrong?”

“You’re wife doesn’t know you’re alive right? I was just wondering what kind of reaction she’ll have when she sees you.”

“I hope it’s a good one.” He smiled.

“Julian, I have some things to tell you about me. Some things that I’ve tried to keep in the past, but I can’t anymore.”

“Go on.”

“You were wondering how I got all of this arranged so quickly after you asked for my help. Well…”

Allegra looked really uncomfortable as she tried to decide how she was going to tell him everything. And Julian staring at her was only making it worse.

“My family is very well known in Italy, they have been for over more then a hundred years. I never really loved having all the attention drawn to me because of my name. And it only got worst after my parents were murdered.”

“I’m sorry to hear that.”

“Julian, I did some extra looking into your background and it said that before you came to Italy, you were working on a project for these two brothers.”

“I was?” Julian was confused.

“Yeah. I’m so sorry you had to come to Italy and I’m so sorry that you met him.”

“What are you talking about?”

“I knew something wasn’t right when I came across your project and the brothers you where working with. I should’ve told you before we left Italy, but I couldn’t.” She said in a trembling voice.

“Allegra…”

“Does the name Luciano sound familiar?”

He nodded.

“Yes…” he whispered.

“There is no easy way to say this to you…”

“Just tell me…”

“I have reason to believe that Carlo Luciano is responsible for what happened to you back in Italy. For what reason, I’m not sure but I know now that it was him.”

“That name…"

“Julian… my name isn’t Allegra Romano… it’s Luciano… My name is Allegra Luciano… Carlo is my brother.”

Instantly, memories of what happened four months ago in Italy suddenly appeared before Julian’s eyes. Everything from the time he left Harmony until now.

“That bastard… He tried to kill me.” Julian said in a trembling voice. He then turned back and looked at Allegra. “That bastard is your brother?!”

“He’s my ex-brother-in-law. I married his brother Marco five years ago. We’re divorced now. I married into their family to get my revenge.”

“What?!”

“That sick, twisted bastard Carlo killed my brother Paolo and I will not rest until he is dead!”

Ivy was looking at Eve in shock. Surely Eve did not tell her that Carlo was in love with her? Ivy shook her head a bit then opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out. She opened her mouth slowly before closing it again.

“Ivy will you please say something?” Eve whined.

“Are you sure?”

“He said he loves me.”

“Damn him!”

“Ivy, you know that I can never stop loving Julian. I can’t even if I wanted to, which I don’t, but I don’t know what to do.”

“You don’t have to do anything. I’ll make him stay away from you.”

“And how are you going to that?”

“You’re coming to stay with me until you have this baby.”

Eve gasped.

“I can’t do that.”

“Yes you can. I want for you and William to come stay with me until this baby is born. I can’t have you alone by yourself when Carlo made it clear that he loves you. I won’t let him cause you anymore stress.”

Eve placed her hand on top of Ivy’s and squeezed it.

“Thank you.”

“No problem.” Ivy smiled.
