He couldn’t help the small smile that played over his face as he looked back at her, dancing around on the inside of the pool with their little one. Her long, golden honey colored hair dipped into the pool and she lifted the little girl in the air and spun her around causing the laughter of their daughter to fill the air. He hated to interrupt the moment, especially since he knew that there were very few good ones in the home that they had built, but he knew that it was time.

Sliding open the large, glass door that led to the patio that looked over the immensely large backyard, Nicholas Crane walked to the edge and called out to his wife. “Katherine we need to start getting ready.” He informed. “The Benefit is in an hour or so.”

The smile never left her face as she kissed her daughters cheek sweetly. “Alright.” She called back, although she never really looked at him. She hadn’t done that a lot over the past year. Yes, it was his fault, and yes he wished to God he could change it, but he didn’t know how. She had built such a strong bolder around her heart he was afraid that his one mistake could cause him to never reach her again.

Stepping out of the pool with their child in her hand, Katherine climbed the steps that lead to the patio joining Fox as she slipped on her large black shades. “Will you take her while I go lay out my dress?” She asked.

Smiling he extended his hands to his two year old daughter who gladly jumped into them with a smile. “Hey my little angel.” He said kissing her sweetly. She giggled innocently and buried her head in his chest in a shy way. Sighing some, he faced his wife. “Listen, about tonight.” He spoke up. “My family and….well the world really doesn’t know about the problems we’ve been having of late.” He informed averting his eyes in a guilty way for a moment. “I was just hoping you wouldn’t have a problem……”

“I know Fox.” Katherine cut him off softly. “I know all about the role of a Crane wife. We place on our smiles, and good manners and for the evening we play pretend.”

He nodded his head, as he looked to his daughter who had been speaking in a childish language which eh didn’t understand to well. He was able to make out a few words, which warmed his heart. She was growing so fast. She was already beginning to talk, or at least doing her best to try. He then looked back to his wife.

“Thank you.” He said gratefully. “I wouldn’t want to explain to them the truth.” He stepped closer to her in any attempt to kiss her, but she quickly backed away defensively.

“Don’t.” She said softly. “Like I said, it’s a night of pretend. You’ll pretend were happy, and I’ll pretend that you didn’t sleep with another woman behind my back. Then tomorrow we step back into the real world.” She wrapped a towel around her waist as she prepared to step into their home. “And you know those rules.” She said right before entering the same way Fox came to get her.

As usual she turned away, and his attempts at restoring his marriage were shot. Usually he’d go drown his sorrows in brandy and sleep the rest of the day away, however tonight he needed to stay sober and up on his toes. He needed to be if he was going to see her. The woman he had loved the most, and hurt the most, just as his father did to her mother, Julian for once was right. He should have stayed away from Whitney and spared her heartache when he had the chance. He didn’t, and now he had to suffer the consequences. So did she.

Placing on her last diamond earning as she sat in front of her vanity in her condo, Whitney Russell tossed back her braided hair and looked down on her dresser as she prepared to apply the proper eye-shadow. It was then when her door opened.

“Ms. Russell, your dress.” Felicia, the head housekeeper of two years said entering carrying Whitney’s dress for the evenings events.

Whitney smiled gratefully as Felicia laid the dress down on the bed. “Thanks Felicia.” She said as she stood. “I have no idea what I would do without you.”

An elderly women of about 45, Felicia smiled at the comment. “Lets hope we never have to find out.” She stated. “I’ll come and get you when Ms. Lopez-Fitzgerald has arrived.”

“Thank you.” Whitney said as she went back to looking at her mirror and applying her make up. She had to admit her nerves were rattling like the tail end of a snake. She had preformed in some of the biggest concert halls all over the globe and did it boldly, but when it came to coming back to her home town and singing, well it was a lot different. Especially since the last time she was in Harmony, her heart had been broken by the one she trusted it with the most.

Shaking her head she forced herself to forget about him, and all the memories they had secretly created, and decided to think on positive things like seeing her friends and family. Theresa was on her way with Little Ethan and she could not wait to see how big the little guy had gotten, and to see Theresa and check on how she was doing. She had finally stopped chasing Ethan, and gotten over her infatuation with him, and she now head a steady job as an up and coming clothing designer and finally got a level head on her shoulders. She had never been so proud.

She was also very anxious to see how Chad was. They had parted on good terms even after everything that had taken place in L.A., and how he felt when he came back and found out that she had moved on with Fox, and even when Fox broke her heart, Chad stood by her and supported her. He didn’t take advantage of her or anything. Her was just there like Theresa was. He was a friend. She even wanted to see how Ethan and Gwen were. They had the fortune of having another child. A little boy and they were picking up the pieces of their lives. She just wanted them to know that she wished them the best and hoped they were happy.

Her family on the other hand was a different subject. Her father had been hurt over her picking a career in music over tennis, and he still had never gotten over it. They didn’t keep much in contact. Things with Simone were slowly progressing. Most likely because she had finally found some one else. They lived in Boston now, but were also coming for this benefit to see their father and mother. As for Whitney’s relationship with Eve. That was vet estranged. After her mother’s affair with Julian was exposed by none other than Rebecca Crane, she was devastated. Her mother was always coming down on them about lies, and secrets and she had this entire secret life from them, not to mention the fact that she still had feelings for Julian. She was truly hurt by that, and didn’t want to face it, or Eve so she didn’t really speak with Eve. It hurt to not have a relationship with her mother, but her betrayal hurt even more. She felt as though she couldn’t trust Eve. Truth be told, she felt as though she could not trust anyone.

Once again she silently scolded herself as she stood from where she sat and walked to her dress that had been lying on the bed. She smiled some at the exquisite beauty of the formal gown and retrieved it from the bed. Looking up at the clock in her room, she saw that her arrival at the Benefit was just around the corner and she needed to finally start getting dress. Once again she felt the butterflies in her stomach rise as she realized that time was ticking away. Soon she would have to face them all again, and the one that scared her the most, was the one she had given her heart to.
