Forgiven, Chapter 3
by ejcrane

Julian was about to call information to find out Eve’s address, but his phone rang.

“Mr. Crane, I really need to be heading home, how much longer is it going to be?”

“I’ll be home as soon as I can…five more minutes, Mrs. Matthews,” Julian said.

He would just have to do the research when he would get home.

Julian got home just five minutes later and released Jordan’s nanny from her shift. He went upstairs to check on Jordan, who was fast asleep after she had taken her medicine for her arm. Julian then went back downstairs and looked Eve up in the phone directory and found her.

“Doctor Eve Russell,” Julian said as he raised his glass to his lips, “You just wait until tomorrow,” he stood and walked out of the study and went upstairs to his room.

Just as he put his head down, he heard the door creak open. Jordan was standing there with her blanket and teddy bear.

“Princess? Why aren’t you asleep,” Julian sat up.

“May I sleep with you, daddy?” she asked in that tiny little voice she spoke with.

“Of course…come on, darling,” he patted the bed.

She ran giggling and jumped on top of his bed and got under the covers.

“How does your arm feel, sweetie,” he asked as he combed her hair with his hands.

“Hmm, better,” she sighed as she laid her head on the pillow, “The doctor was nice.”

Julian’s hand stopped moving.

“I liked her…goodnight daddy,” she said as she closed her eyes.

“Night, precious,” he kissed her cheek and then laid back onto his pillow and stared up and pondered.

Why was Eve acting the way she was? How was Jordan going to react when she found out that Eve was her mother? How was Eve going to react?
---

Eve opened the front door, only to find Julian standing there.

“Hi,” she looked passed him and saw Jordan standing behind her father’s long legs, “What are you doing here, Julian?” she swallowed as she saw Jordan’s eyes.

For a minute there, it was almost as if this little girl had her mother’s eyes.

“Can we talk, Eve?”

“Sure, come on in.”

Julian entered Eve’s house and looked around. It was nice, not as big as her house was with Tc, but now that Eve was living alone, he didn’t expect her to have such a big home.

Jordan followed behind him and stared back at Eve and waved.

“Hi, sweetie,” Eve greeted her.

Julian then knelt down and whispered something into Jordan’s ear that Eve couldn’t hear.

“Don’t touch anything, okay honey? I’m going to go over there and talk to mommy, alright? You be a good girl, hmm?”

She nodded and smiled back at Eve, then hugged her before she went into the living room. Eve hugged her back, but as she held this little girl in her arms, she felt some sort of connection…something she just couldn’t explain.

Eve turned to Julian.

“So, what brings you by?”

“We need to talk, Eve.”

“Your daughter’s lovely, Julian,” she smiled as she glanced back into the living room, “I never knew you had children, well, I guess I can expect not to know since I never kept up with news from Harmony,” she laughed as she walked around him and looked out the window, “So, who’s her mother?”

Julian just stared at her incredulously. And when he didn’t answer, Eve turned back to him.

“Olivia?” she whispered.

Julian couldn’t take it anymore; he had to know once and for all. What the hell was the matter with Eve?!

“Eve, WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!” he shouted, which startled both Eve and Jordan in the next room.

“Daddy, why are you yelling?”

“Go back to the other room, princess…we’re not finished talking over here.”

Jordan obeyed her father and walked back over to the couch.

“Julian, if you’re going to raise your voice to me like that, then you can just leave,” she walked over to the door and was about to open it, when Julian caught her arm.

“I’m not leaving until you answer me, damnit!” he stared her in the eyes.

“Answer you? Answer you?! About what? About how you claim that the child you have with you is OUR child?” she laughed, “Julian, our child’s dead. SHE DIED!” Eve’s eyes began to water.

“Look Eve, I don’t know what kind of game you’re playing, but I don’t blame you for saying our child is dead…with the way you threw her AWAY!”

Eve turned her head towards Julian.

“WHAT DID YOU SAY?!” she practically growled.

“You heard me,” he looked to her with disgust, “You were ashamed of our daughter and that’s why you threw her away like she was garbage!”

That was it! Eve marched up to Julian and backhanded him!

“Don’t you ever accuse me of doing something so cruel! I don’t ever want to see you again, Julian! You get out! NOW!” Eve pointed towards the door and then ran upstairs crying.

Julian left with Jordan, but his conversation with Eve wasn’t over…it was far from over. Eve was now more than determined to stay away from Julian.
