His Only Love
 

"You’ll never amount to anything!"

"Why can’t you be more like your sister?"

"Look at you, your so plain!"

"You actually think your smart?"

"A doctor? You want to be a doctor? Now that’s laughable."
 

She held her hands over her ears, her eyes firmly shut as she fell to her knees on the floor. "Please stop." She begged as the voices from the past shouted in her ears. "Leave me alone! No please!"
"Eve! Eve darling." A voice called out. "Eve please can you hear me?"
She opened her eyes and looked up realizing she was siting in the bathroom at the Book Café.
Gulping she felt her throat sting. "Julian." She whimpered out as tears rolled off her face. "Julian?"
"Eve let me in!" He called out as he suddenly burst in the room. Staring down at her a frown fell on his face. "What have they done to you?" He whispered bending to where she sat. "My darling how could they do this?"
Eve let out a sob, "Liz is back." She mustered. "And Whitney knows."
"Oh my poor dear."
"And our son, Chad he’s so confused."
Julian let out a heavy sigh, three weeks ago Chad Harris had gotten hold of papers that linked him to both Eve and Julian, after blood test were taken it was proven that he was indeed the baby they had thought dead.
"Father did it Eve, you must believe me I had nothing to do with it! Father got rid of our son, he was the one that did this."
"I, I believe you." She nodded weakly. "They both hate me now, Chad and Whitney."
"Darling this isn’t your fault, you mustn’t do this to yourself."
"You don’t understand." She whimpered.
 
 

Eve Russell glared over at the woman in front of her. "How dare you come back!" She growled. "You promised you’d stay away."
"I came for my daughter!"
"She is my daughter! Do you hear me Liz? Whitney is my child NOT yours."
"I gave birth to her Eve, she is mine and I want her to know the truth!"
"You’ve always tried to ruin my life! When we were kids you wanted to be the best, and you were! Our parents always wanted me to be just like you! Perfect Lizzy! They never thought about there perfect daughter getting pregnant and dumping the child off on ‘the other daughter’ did they?"
"I believe you have quite a past as well sister dear!" Liz spoke crossing her arms. "You have no right to judge me!"
"At least I made something of myself." Eve huffed.
"You did that by lying to everyone Eve, now its time for the world to know the truth. Its time Whitney finds out who her real mother is!"
"You can’t tell her the truth! Whitney can never find out that your her mother!"
"WHAT!" A voice rang out. "Mother what are you talking about?" Whitney yelled slamming the door. "Who is this woman?"
"Your mother." Liz smiled. "I’m your mother."
"No your not." Whitney frowned. "Tell her mom! Tell her!" Whitney screamed suddenly. "Please no more lies." She begged.
Tears filled Eve’s eyes. "Whitney this is my sister Liz, and years ago she got pregnant, and when you were born she left you here with me." She spoke. "But me and your father, we’ve raised you, adopted you and loved you."
"Your not my mother? I don’t belong to daddy? I belong to some sister I didn’t even know you had? So what now? Chad isn’t my brother? He’s my cousin?"
"Actually Liz was adopted at birth, Chad isn’t related to you Whitney. I should have told you sooner but had no idea how." With tears in her eyes Eve faced Whitney tears seeping from her eyes.
"You knew we weren’t related and you kept it from me? How could you do that? Your a liar! I have no family! I hate you! I’ll hate you for the rest of my life!" Whitney yelled as she ran out of the door.
"Whitney wait please!"
"I’ll go get her." Liz began as Eve’s hand slammed into her face.
"You’ll do no such thing! You will stay away from MY child, away from my family!" Eve spoke. "Just leave Liz, go back to where you came from."
 
 
 

Looking up at Julian she frowned. "They all hate me now. Everyone."
"TC? He hates you?" Julian questioned.
Eve swallowed. "He made me pick, he said he couldn’t deal with Chad being my son, so I left him."
"Eve I’m so sorry." Julian frowned wiping her tears. "I’m sorry Liz came back."
"She promised she’d stay away." Eve cried. "Now Whitney knows everything."
"I paid her good money to stay away from here." Julian fumed. "How dare she do this!"
Eve’s eyes shot open. "You paid her?"
"You came to me back then Eve, told me you had a chance to be a mother, I couldn’t let Liz hurt that. I knew the stories of your childhood, how she was the favorite. I didn’t want her to hurt you again so I gave her money to stay away."
Eve drew in a breath. "You did that for me?"
Julian smiled. "I’d do anything for you my dear."
"But why? How?"
Julian took her hands slowly pulling her up from the floor. "Your my one love Eve, the only woman I’ve ever gave my heart too."
Eve lowered her head. "Our son, will he ever for give us?"
"He isn’t bitter at you, I spoke to him. He says he wants to understand, he needs time."
"Is he angry with you?"
"He isn’t sure what to believe." Julian sighed.
"I’m scared." Eve frowned. "This town they all know the truth. My parents were right, I’m everything they said I was."
"Eve your a beautiful smart woman. Who cares what these townies think? Ignore them! As for your parents they were wrong, and you proved that by becoming a doctor."
Eve forced a smile. "No ones ever believed in my like you have."
"Darling do you remember the love we once shared? The connection we vowed would never be touched? It hasn’t been touched by another woman for me, its only you my beautiful Eve, you and our son."
"Julian what are you saying?" Eve asked gasping.
"I’m saying lets forget about these people, ignore the people who talk in this town. This is our chance back to each other Eve, please don’t let it slip by."
Eve looked up at Julian her tear stained eyes searching his, and then it happened, Eve smiled, and in that moment that one simple smile was enough for Julian to see that he had his second chance with his only love.
