“ What did you say, Eve?”, Madelaine asked.

“ I……I said that is MY voice on that CD. Chad said it was the voice of his mother.”

” Eve…is that possible? Could you be his mother?”

” I…..I don’t know. I don’t know how it would be possible. It can’t be true. It can’t be.”

” I thought you didn’t have anyone before Theodore.”

Through teary eyes, “ Well, I guess it’s obvious that I LIED, Madelaine.”

” Eve, I’m not here to hurt.”

” Aren’t you? Aren’t you going to be whispering in TC’s ear about what a whore I am?”

” Whatever I tell my son, isn’t the problem. CHAD IS. IS CHAD HARRIS YOUR SON?”

Eve has all these moments running through her. The flashbacks are fast in her mind: the strange feeling she had when she first met Chad; the warning from Orville to keep her daughters away from Chad; the insistence by Crystal, that she had something amazing to tell  Eve.

The CD didn’t lie. The CD. The one that Chad said was his mother’s voice. It was HER voice. From her days at the Blue Note.

But, her son was dead, wasn’t he?

That’s what she had believed and mourned all these years.

He couldn’t be alive.

But, what if it’s true.

If it’s true.

If she got her miracle.

If her son DIDN’T die.

Then, he was here, in Harmony.

He had been looking for HER!

“ Oh My God! TC is on his way with Chad to the Cranes.”

” IS George right? Is Chad’s father a Crane?”

Eve seemed in a daze, and Madelaine shook her by her shoulders.

” IS CHAD’S FATHER A CRANE?”

Eve nodded.

” Which one?”

Eve looked shocked. “ Julian!”

Madelaine let go of Eve, and shuddered. She ran to the phone and picked it up.

” You have to call Theodore and get him back here, NOW!”

Eve shook her head.

Madelaine went over to Eve and dragged her back to the phone. “ You WILL call Theodore now.”

” But, he’ll never forgive me.”

” Maybe, maybe not, but, the ONE thing my son will NEVER forgive you for, is if you allow him to enter the Crane Mansion, and JULIAN CRANE tells him that he has a child with his WIFE. THAT will be a line of no return. You still have a slim chance if he hears it from you.”

Eve stares at the phone, and Madelaine yells,

“ DO IT!!”

Eve dials up TC’s cellphone number.

” Hello.”

” TC?”

” Baby, did you get my message?”

“ Yes. Are you at the Cranes?”

” No. We’re about 5 minutes away.”

” TC, come home. Please come home.”

” Eve, I already promised George and Chad that I won’t lose my temper. I promise you too. This is about Chad. Has nothing to do with me. You don’t need to worry.”

” TC, I have to talk to you. NOW. It’s important. Very important. It can’t wait. It’s an emergency sweetheart.”

” Eve, is one of the girls’ hurt? Eve, are they hurt?”

” Come home, TC.”

TC can’t ask anymore questions because Eve has hung up. He tries redailing, and gets a busy signal.

“ What’s wrong, TC?”, George asks.

“ It’s Eve. She sounds frantic. She says that I have to get home.”

” Is it the girls?”

” I don’t know. I can’t get back to her. “

” Well, we’ll take you back home.”, George offers.

” Chad, we were so close.”

” Coach, if something happened to Whitney or Simone, you gotta be there. That’s more important than the Cranes. We can do that soon enough. Mr. A, let’s haul ass back home.”

” Already working on it.”, as George makes a sharp U-turn to go back to the Russell house.
 

“ Well, is he coming back?”, Madelaine asks.

” I don’t know. He thinks something has happened to the girls, so I guess that would bring him back. “

“ Good. You have to tell him when he gets here.”

” Tell him that I’ve been lying to him since the day we met? That not only did I have a relationship with the one man he hates most in the world, but, I gave HIM a son, and not TC?”

” Yes. That’s exactly what you have to tell him. You have to tell him before anyone else, Eve. He’ll never forgive THAT.”

” Not that he’ll forgive THIS.”

” Well, you don’t have that luxury. Your family deserves to know the truth.”

” You’re enjoying this, aren’t you?”, Eve says bitterly. “ You never did think I was good enough for TC.”

” My feelings don’t matter. I love MY son as much as you love yours. So, knowing that he’s going to know heartache and pain does not make me happy. “

“ I love TC, Madelaine. My life with him has been more than I ever thought possible. You don’t know how much of a dream it’s been. I’ve tried to love him and be the best wife and mother that I can be. And, now, it’s all gone.”

” Only if you let it.”

” Let it? I have no choice. My life, my family, are all destroyed. “

” Not necessarily. “

” It’s all gone.”, Eve says, finally sitting on the couch and sobbing uncontrollably. Madelaine wants to comfort Eve, but, she just sits on the couch next to her.

This is the scene that greets TC, Chad and George when they get back to the house.

Upon seeing his wife on the couch, TC rushes over to her.

“ Baby, what’s wrong? Has something happened to Whitney? Simone? What’s wrong?”  Eve is just crying and not responding, and so TC looks over to his mother, who looks away from him.

“ Eve, what’s wrong? You can tell me. Whitney or Simone? Something happen?”

Eve shakes her head no. TC lets out a sigh of relief. He then jumps to the next conclusion. “ Sam? Grace?”

Eve shakes her head no again.

“ Then, what is it, Baby?”

Eve looks at TC, and touches his face, seeing the concern in his eyes. She gets up off the couch, and goes over to the stereo. She picks up the CD, and takes it over to Chad.

” I finally listened to the CD.”

Chad was confused, but, answered, “ That’s cool.”

” Your mother’s voice was full of pain.”

” Yeah.”

” But, it was obvious that she loved the music.”

” I know. I can sense that too. No one can sing that well without loving music.”

Eve reached out and touched the side of Chad’s face.

“ That’s MY voice on the CD.”

Chad couldn’t believe what he had just heard. He looked into Eve’s eyes and saw the confirmation of what she had just said.

George literally had his mouth open upon hearing Eve’s statement. TC was standing, stopped cold by Eve’s statement, staring at Eve and Chad. Madelaine looked at TC with worry.

The room was deathly quiet, in anticipation of the improbable just 60 seconds ago. And, then, she spoke again.

” I am your mother.”
