Chapter 14

Fox overslept in the bed he shared with Theresa and realized he had too much to drink from last night. A draft crept him drastically. He shuddered a bit and heard footsteps coming from the stairs. It’s Ethan; I have to get out of here. Fox pondered and scooped his attire in his hands, escaping through the secret door that was hidden in the closet when Ethan walked in the bedchamber as he saw Theresa coming out of the bathroom in her satiny white robe. “Hey, Ethan. Baby, did you just come in?”

“Yes, darling. I stayed at the office all night. The project was strenuous.” He sighed tiredly, planting a kiss on her lips.

“My poor baby. Want me to give you a massage?” Theresa offered.

“Thanks, baby, maybe it’ll help me to get some sleep.” Ethan yawned.

“My hubby is exhausted, let’s get those knots out.” Theresa began massaging Ethan’s overly stressed areas, coaxing him into a world of slumber.

Fox had snuck out of the manor, hopping into his car swiftly after throwing on his apparel. “Fox, what have you done? You have slept with your half-brother’s wife. What were you thinking?” He whispered to himself while driving. “Only because Whitney found out about your scheme. Talk about bad timing. There’s no way I will win her back. She doesn’t want anything to do with me.” A haunting recognition stirred his emotions greatly. “Listen to yourself, Fox. You only care about Whitney, there’s no way you could possibly love her.”

He turned the knob on the radio to find his favorite station, and when he did, he left it on that very channel. “You’re not capable of falling in love … you thought you were when you was with Theresa and … this is nonsense, you have to came to a complete stop at the light and turned right when it was clear, heading over to Whitney and Simone’s house.

He shifted the gear in park and turned off the ignition. He made certain that the car is locked. Fox sauntered to the door, knocking on the sealed entrance that leads to the inside, as he was waiting for Whitney to respond. “Come on, Whit … I know I made a huge mistake … but you have to take me back.” He murmured quietly while pounding on the door.

Simone had wiped her tears away after removing herself off of the couch. She unlocked the door and saw who was standing in front of her. Simone frowned incredibly at the man as she is ready to slam the door in his face, but Fox had caught it before she had succeeded.

“Whoa, what’s with the red eyes, Simone? Why are you glaring at me?” Fox queried with regard.

“Oh, don’t act like you care, Fox! You are responsible for what has happened to Whitney!” Simone growled.

Fox felt like his body has been crushed by a ton of debris. “What?” He pumped flatly.

“You heard me! She’s gone all because of you!” She yelled, trampling on the carpet angrily, fleeting from him.

“Are you telling me Whitney has committed suicide?” Fox looked extremely confused while shutting the door, heading towards the weeping woman.

“She might as well with the way you have played her!” Simone hollered.

“Why are you placing the blame on me?” Fox retaliated heatedly.

“You want to know why? Read it and choke!” She hissed.

Fox grabbed the paper from Simone cautiously and read it for himself. “Hey, Simone, I want you to know there is no need to worry about me. I had to get out of here for my sanity, please try not to worry about me. You tell our mother that I love her very much and I’ll keep in touch with both of you. Love, Whitney.” He averted his eyes away from the writing and pinpointed them on Simone who was still sobbing. “Simone,”

“Don’t, Fox! You know you’re to blame!” She seethed.

“Simone, she didn’t say whether or not if she’s coming back? She can’t leave things like this! Everything hasn’t been resolved!” He expressed loudly.

“Funny coming from you, Fox! You should have known better than to trick my sister! All because you wanted to make Theresa pay for hurting you! How can use innocent people without caring about their feelings? Are you that selfish? My God, when are you ever going to learn that love is not a game! Love has this unique quality to keep embracing everyone no matter what they have done! Love is not like lust, Fox! You can’t simply confuse the two!” She admonished him.

“Don’t you think I know that, Simone! I am truly sorry for hurting her! I have to know where she is located. Please tell me where she has gone?” he implored for answers.

“Fox, you know what’s funny of it all? She didn’t say in the letter where she is staying! She said she’d keep in touch!” She snarled. “And it’s all your fault!” She pounced on him, knocking him to the floor, beating him with her fists.

“Simone, stop it!” He roared, manhandling her.

“I hate you for what you have done, Fox! You’re a Crane through and through! Screw everyone else!” Simone cried.

“Calm down, sweetie. I’m not all that bad …” he begged to differ.

“Could have fooled me.” she rolled her eyes.

“Seriously, Simone, I came to make it right with Whitney. I want her back …” he leaned up, gesturing her to get off of him.

“Fox, don’t … you did the same mess to her, and now you’re doing it to my sister. Please stop while you’re ahead.” Simone soughed annoyingly.

“Simone, I need to find her. If she calls you-”

“Fox, don’t even try … you’re a Crane, can’t you learn of her whereabouts? You got all that money, make some good use of it.” She stood up and helped him up.

“Simone, it’ll be obvious if Whitney suspects that I have sent someone to follow her. She’ll hate me even more.”

“My point exactly.” Simone smiled bitterly.

“Okay, okay. I get your point. There’s no need to be hostile because I do care for Whitney, I really do. You have to believe me, Simone.” He pleaded once more.

“Fox, when will you ever learn to stop weaseling your way into women’s live?” She shook her head, sighing.

“Are you saying you’ll inform me on Whitney?” Fox’s teeth had shone brightly before Simone.

“Don’t get your hopes up yet, Fox. I can’t promise you anything, but with you, I’ll make an exception.” She held her head up.

“I owe you one.” He whispered.

“Yeah, I’m holding you to it. If you hurt my sister again, you will answer to me.” She threatened him.

“Fret not, my pretty one, I wouldn’t double cross Whitney again.” He curled his finger underneath her chin, planting a kiss on her forehead. “See you later.”

“Hasta luego.” Simone sent him a salute and shut the door. “Whitney, where could you have gone?”

Sitting on the white sand in the Bahamas, Whitney was enjoying the sun and the beautiful water that was glimmering underneath the sunrays. She loved how the waves were forming from the seduction of the wind. Sadness crowded her heart after the travesty that occurred four months ago. She was being played for a fool. Fox never loved her, all he saw her was an opportunity to play score with Theresa. She must have the word fool plastered on her forehead because that’s what Fox took her for.

Everything he told Theresa in the hospital was a lie. None of his words were real. She has to get him out of her heart and soul. She has to admit she has fallen for him quickly without realizing it. She was getting used to the idea of being with Fox. But all of her hopes came crashing down when she learned the truth.

She will end up alone and have no one to love her. Of course she can get any man she wants, she’s a beauty, however, she’s not willing to give herself to any man. It’s not in her nature. Her heart aches for Fox, even her body, and soul. Her hormones are pumping for him with every beat of her heart. She wish he was with her right now, consoling her, nevertheless, it’s not possible. The fact remains he has tricked her into thinking they had something special.

She inhaled deeply and exhaled roughly as the wind was rushing through her curly hair. She had brought her knees to her chest, keeping herself close to cut off the pain she is feeling in her heart. “Fox, how will I get over you? …” she whimpered deeply. “I gave myself to you repeatedly and you used me as a ploy to seek revenge on Theresa. How could I’ve been so stupid? To think you have some feelings for me? Not likely, you have proved to me that a Crane can get whatever they want, whenever they want and get away with hurting people. I hate you, Fox Crane! I hate you with every fiber of my being!” she wailed excessively and her crying ceased when she saw a tall shadow with a tiny one hanging over her. “Oh, my God, what are you doing here?”

“Hey, Whitney, no long time, no see. How are you?” She muttered, smiling, keeping her baby close to her.

“I’m fine, and how are you?” Whitney was on her feet, staring at the young woman incredulously.

“Excellent.” She extended her arm to Whitney, giving her a hug.

“I can’t believe it, what are you doing in the Bahamas?” Whitney quizzed, releasing her.

“Hey, we all need to get away sometimes, right?” She whispered, shrugging.

“Right.” Whitney concurred. “Does your family know you’re here?”

“No, don’t want them to either.” She uttered, pacifying her baby.

“I can understand … you’re not living here permanently, are you?” Whitney blinked at her curiously.

“I go wherever life takes me and my little girl.” She responded, grinning.

“And the father isn’t around?” Whitney cooed at the cute little girl.

“Nope … as far as I’m concerned, he used me, …” she griped.

“You have been used, too? That’s something I can definitely relate to.” Whitney scoffed.

“What? Some guy has used you, too?” She queried out of curiosity.

“Yes, to make Theresa jealous.” Whitney confessed, sulking.

“Theresa … how interesting. What are you up to this evening?” She marveled.

“Nothing much, I might take a nap.” Whitney scowled a bit.

“Oh, surely you can come hang with me—I’m going to have Marla baby sit for me. So we can catch up.”

“I don’t know … I don’t want to take you away from whatever you were doing.” Whitney murmured.

“Girl, I insist. Please. I haven’t been able to have a girls’ night out ever since I’ve left Harmony.” She begged, hoping Whitney will make the right choice.

“Fine. What time?” Whitney eventually gave in.

“How about five?”

“Five sounds great to me. Where do you want us to meet?” Whitney interrogated.

“Down in the lobby, and we’ll take it from there.” She instructed.

“Okay, it was really nice bumping in to you, Kay.” She waved at her sister’s long time friend.

“Nice running in to you too, Whitney.” She smiled, watching Whitney treading away.

“Well, Kelly, looks like we get to have a few more hours to ourselves until five. Let’s go back to our room, all right?” She kissed her one-year-old daughter’s chubby cheek, marching to the hotel.

Whitney was in the lobby at the Sandals Royal Bahamian Resort & Spa, waiting on Kay Bennett. She sat on the couch as her nerves are building up with anxiety, worrying about Kay standing her up.

“Whitney?” Kay’s voice echoed in the hall while Whitney shifted her body to see her.

“Kay, I thought you would never make it. Where have you been?” Whitney ambled over to Kay, looking concerned.

“Marla was running a little late. But it’s all good. You weren’t thinking I had stood you up, did you?” Kay lifted a brow at her.

“No …” she lied. “So, why did you want to have a one on one with me?”

“I wanted to talk to you about Simone—and I want you to give her my message.” Kay explained.

“Message? Why can’t you come to Harmony and see her?” Whitney frowned somewhat.

“It’s complicated, Whitney …” Kay soughed.

“Does it have to do with Miguel?” Whitney surmised.

“Well, it’s more than what meets the eye, Whit. If it hadn’t been for your sister, I wouldn’t have the chance to focus on my daughter and me.”

“You had a rough year, …” Whitney thought aloud.

“Yes, but it’s all behind me now. So when are you leaving?” Kay wondered.

“I don’t know … I’m not really sure.” Whitney murmured.

“Who is this guy you’re running from, Whit? Is it Chad?” Kay asked, not trying to be rude.

“Chad has nothing to do with this. I was seeing someone else, but it turns out he was not everything he claims himself to be.” Whitney sighed heavily.

“May I ask who was the ‘lucky’ guy?” Kay prodded.

“Fox Crane.” Whitney admitted.

“Fox Crane?” Kay inquired in surprise.

“Yep, you’re guessing I was foolish to be involved with him, huh?” Whitney moped.

“That’s awful, Whit … and you’re running from him because you’re keeping something from him as well.” Kay indicated towards the small bulge on Whitney’s usually flat abdomen.

“He can’t know that I’m pregnant, Kay. I don’t want to have any room for him …” Whitney vehemently opposed.

Talk about irony. This is too delicious. “Hey, Whitney, at some point in time you got to let him know what the deal is. You have to go back, I’m sure Simone is worried to death about you.”

“True, you think I shouldn’t run from the truth?” Whitney squinted her eyes with uncertainty.

“Absolutely not. You shouldn’t let Fox get away with hurting you. As a matter of fact, if it’ll make you feel better, I can come back with you.” Kay offered.

“Really, Kay?” Whitney was smiling somewhat.

“Yes, Simone will get a double surprise.” Kay ensured her.

“Yes, I haven’t talk to my mother and sister in a while, and I can’t stay here forever.” Whitney conceded.

“No, you can’t … how about we leave in the morning? The tickets are on me.” Kay suggested.

“All right. Tomorrow it is.” Whitney had no choice but to assent. “Simone will be so stunned once she sees who I have brought back home with me.” She chuckled.

“Yes, and so will other folks.” Kay mumbled sneakily. “It’s a deal? I will come with you if we both face our demons together?”

“It’s official.” Whitney outstretched her hand to Kay.

Kay shook Whitney’s hand, “Great, let’s go grab something to eat. I’m famished.”

“I hear you. This little one is crying for food.” Whitney rubbed her belly, giggling along with Kay as they departed the resort to find a restaurant in town.
