Chapter 16

Four months later, Whitney stepped out of the shower steadily, reaching for a towel. She dried herself fully, hearing the door creaking to her right while looking in the mirror. “Hey, baby.”

“Fox? I thought you was at work, what are you doing here?” Whitney beamed uncomfortably to a certain extent.

“I couldn’t stay away from you.” He told partially the truth, the other reason is due to Kay being in their house. He wasn’t a happy camper when Whitney allowed for Kay to stay with them two months ago shortly after they came home from their honeymoon. His nerves have been riding on the edge ever since Kay keeps threatening him about their past Whitney knows nothing about.

“Fox, you know you’ll be with me for the rest of the night. It’s not like I am going anywhere anytime soon.” She giggled and quivered when Fox snaked his arms around her thickened waist.

“How are the little ones doing?” Fox intertwined his fingers together while securing her in his arms.

“They’re fine. I think they miss you.” She couldn’t stop herself from laughing as Fox was nibbling on her ear intimately.

“I miss them, too. Do you think we’ll have two boys, two girls? Or one of each?” he questioned.

“It doesn’t matter to me, Fox. Although, there is something I want to ask you.” Whitney gestured for him to let her go.

“Ask away.” He twirled her around to face him.

“How are you dealing with Kay and her little girl Kelly living here?” Whitney queried softly.

“Sweetheart, I guess I can’t complain, you have known her longer than I have … and it would be very rude of me to oust her from our house.” He shrugged casually.

“Fox, she hasn’t been that much trouble, and I’m used to babysitting her baby girl for her. I love the thought on being a mother. I have a feeling I will enjoy motherhood.” She crept out of the bathroom, diving her hand in her drawer for her lotion.

Fox followed her and grabbed her hand when she had found the bottle of creamy substance. “Let me.”

“Fox, you need to stop pampering me. I can handle this by myself …” her dark brown orbs twinkled at him with love.

“I want to …” he insisted.

“All right, fine.” Whitney surrendered, anxiously waiting to feel his large, masculine hands rubbing on her feminine form.

Before Fox could remove the towel from her very pregnant body, Kay thumped on the door. “Fox, telephone.”

“Will you take a message?” Fox asked, looking more or less irritated.

“No, because your father is adamant about speaking to you and only you.” Kay retorted. “Sorry, Whit.”

“It’s okay, Kay. It’s not your fault. Fox, go have a word with your father. I can put it on myself.” Whitney encouraged him to leave.

“But …”

“Fox, I promise you can give me special treatment later on, all right?” Whitney winked at him, assuring him he will have his turn.

“Okay.” Fox soughed and marched down to the living room to get the phone as Kay traced him. He turned around, glaring at her.

“You little sneak! My father didn’t call! You did this on purpose!” He sibilated silently.

Kay’s devilish grin emerged on her dainty visage. “Oh, Fox, you know I had to … I couldn’t let Whitney get distracted by your seducing touch. You do have a way of turning women out. After all, I should know because we used to have steamy sex every night.” She rubbed his chin endearingly.

“Kay, stop it. I’m a happily married man! My desire to be with other women is dead!” Fox roared.

“You expect me to believe that?” Kay snorted.

“I don’t expect you to … but I would like to know why are you invading my home.” He narrowed his eyes at her.

“Fox, in due time, you’ll learn everything. But as for now, I wouldn’t worry if I were you. Let’s just say … your safety zone will not last forever.” Kay laughed wickedly.

“Kay, do not test me.” Fox squeezed her wrists tightly. “If you dare tell Whitney about my past with you, it will be curtains for you!” He threatened her.

“Is that a threat, Fox? You know you can’t threaten me!” She taunted him.

“Oh, you think I won’t! Kay, I will destroy you if you ruin my marriage with Whitney!” He grumbled, trying his best to keep his voice down.

“Oh, I see. If I don’t abide to your rules, Fox, you’re going to have me sent away again? You know you can’t keep doing that every time when I want to stay close to you.” Kay simpered.

“Kay, I’m not even going to deny what we had was special, but it only was meant for that time frame.”

“Yeah, you mean after you had dumped me for Theresa! Not once, but twice!” Kay griped.

“I can’t believe you’re throwing Theresa in this conversation. She has nothing to do with us.” He whispered.

“Oh, bull, Fox! She has everything to do with us! She was the main reason why you couldn’t commit yourself to me!”

“Only because you couldn’t let go your obsession for Miguel after you had miscarried his baby!” Fox pointed out.

“And it was all Theresa’s fault why I had lost his baby!” Kay blurted.

“Theresa? What does Theresa have to do with your miscarriage? Surely you can’t blame her, you two were both in the accident. It was not intentional, Kay.” Fox reminded her.

“Let Theresa tell it, you’ll believe that this year is 2010. Fox, that girl has ruined my life! She has taken you away from me!”

“Are you here to take me away from Whitney? If you are, it’s not going to work, Kay. I love Whitney!” He declared.

“Oh, Fox, my reason for being here is much bigger than ripping you away from Whitney.”

“Kay, face it, you’re still hung up on me. That’s why you’re staying here.” Fox boasted.

“Believe what you want, Fox! Count your blessings while you still can … you never know when it will all end.” She forewarned him and departed from site to take a walk.

“Fox?” Whitney questioned, standing on the stairway.

“Yes, baby?” Fox shifted his temple swiftly, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.

“Where did Kay go?”

“I have no idea, sweetie.” He exhaled tiredly.

“I’m guessing she want me to look after Kelly.” Whitney took her time coming down the stairs.

“I guess so. Baby, you’ll be around, right?” he searched through her eyes for verification.

“Sure, honey.” Whitney frowned a little. “Where are you off to?”

“I have to have a chat with one of my long time friends. See you.” He rushed off distractedly, leaving Whitney utterly baffled.

“Fox, you have been acting strange ever since I let Kay stay here with us. Why do you have such a problem with her being here?” Whitney inquired suspiciously to herself and went to Kelly’s beck and call when she heard the girl wailing.

*%%*%*%*%*%*%*%%%

“Hey, Stephen, you got a moment?” Fox quizzed nonchalantly.

“Yeah, man, and we’re alone.” Stephen was stunned to see his buddy positioning at his front door, wondering why he is here.

“Great, I need someone to talk to and you’re that person.” Fox expressed exhaustingly.

“Come in.” Stephen appeared concerned for his friend while letting him in. He shut the door and sat in the living room where Fox had made himself comfortable on his couch. “Where have you been, dude?”

“I’ve been back in Harmony after I had my honeymoon with Whitney. I have been running the Blue Note.”

“I thought you were working with your father and grandfather?” Stephen scowled in concentration.

“I do work with them … I needed something extra on the side.” Fox’s voice wavered slightly.

“And you’re married to Whitney? You married the girl and you didn’t tell her about the affair you had with Theresa!”

“Shh, keep your voice down, Stephen!” Fox chided him.

“How could you marry her knowing you have a secret?” Stephen pumped wildly.

“Make that two …”

“Two? What the heck are you talking about two?” Stephen glanced at him in a disturbing manner.

“The other woman in my life, Kay Bennett, is staying with me and my wife.”

Stephen’s mouth dropped excessively after receiving some stunning information. “How the devil you let that happen, Fox? I thought you paid Kay to get out of Harmony?”

“I know. Apparently staying away from Harmony was not in the feisty feline’s plan.” He ran a frustrated hand through his hair.

“And Whitney has no idea that you have been involved with her, too?” Stephen interrogated.

“No, none whatsoever. My life is screwed.” He covered his face into his hands.

“That’s no understatement there … Fox, I warned you to clean up your mess before you started getting involved with Whitney. But did you listen? No!” He washed his lecturing down Fox’s throat.

“I don’t need a lecture, Steve! I need a fix!” Fox fumed. “Kay, is out to destroy me, but I don’t know how and why is she doing it! I get the feeling she’s holding a grudge against me! Kay is up to something but what?”

“Man, you know what I suggest you should do.” Stephen began.

“What?” Fox stared at him desperately.

“You need to come clean with Whitney now before Kay do it for you.” He told him out of care.

“What? No! Kay wouldn’t do anything this drastic! She doesn’t have enough clout to sabotage my life, Steve. Kay is bluffing …”

“What makes you so sure of that?” Stephen probed suspiciously.

“Kay has nothing on me … if she did, she would have came out with it a long time ago the day she stepped foot in my house.” Fox exhaled annoyingly.

“If you say so.” Stephen jerked.

“What? You think Kay has an ulterior motive?”

“I’m telling you, Fox, you better watch out for Kay. All I’m saying is there is no harm on risking everything you possess by telling Whitney the truth. She’ll thank you much later if you do it today. Please don’t procrastinate.” Stephen urged him to reason.

“I don’t know …” Fox answered reluctantly.

“So, Fox, you have another secret … you slept with Theresa, eh? I wonder what Theresa is up to these days. Time to find out.” Kay rejoiced, putting her sinister plan into motion.

“Theresa, I’m so glad you’re home …” Kay leaned against the door, smirking at a very astonished Theresa who is obviously pregnant.

“Kay,” Theresa uttered, stammering.

“Surprised to see me? Never thought I would appear? Well, I’m back in the flesh. How’s my brother Ethan and my little nephew are doing?” Kay crossed her arms in a smugly manner.

“They’re doing just fine, Kay.” Theresa grunted.

“Aren’t you going to let me in? You know it’s rude to not invite your guest.” Kay amused herself with Theresa’s anger.

“Hey, come inside. I have no problem with you being here.” Theresa muttered tightly.

“Thank you.” Kay stepped in, scrutinizing the lavish home closely. “Nice house. You and big Ethan are living it up, I see.” Kay complimented, nodding.

“Kay, cut the crap, and just tell me why you are here.” Theresa locked the door, waddling towards her.

“A little bird has whispered a secret in my ear, Theresa. I know what you did.” Kay smirked.

“I-I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She placed her hand on her protruding belly.

“You and Fox, shame on you two. How dare you cheat on my brother—his brother no less? You love to keep it all in the family, don’t you?” Kay retaliated, chortling.

“You are one mean-”

“Yes, I know. And I’m extremely proud to be one, too. It’s ironic how your life was coming in to play—when you had to screw it up by getting laid with Fox, knowing he’s involved with Whitney. I’m sure you heard the news by now that Fox and Whitney are married and they are expecting twins.” Kay announced, glancing at her nails.

“Yes, so why are you laying this on my doorstep?” Theresa hissed.

“Aren’t you and Whitney due round about the same time?” Kay kept on using conundrums.

“Yes, Kay, but I don’t see your point.” Theresa was growing impatient with Kay’s riddling

“The truth will be told, Theresa. You and I both know that that baby you’re carrying isn’t Ethan’s.” Kay enjoyed how Theresa was turning pale as a ghost.

“How do you even know that I am carrying Fox’s baby?” Theresa snarled.

“I have my ways.” Kay mused on the conversation she overheard earlier. “That wasn’t smart of you, Theresa. How dare you backstab your best friend by sleeping with her man, knowing she’s in love with him?”

“I did not backstab Whitney! She backstabbed me!” Theresa declared.

“Oh? Like the way you had backstabbed me, not once, Theresa, but twice? You know very well you had staged that car accident so I could lose Miguel’s baby, only for him to marry Charity and not me-”

“My brother is too good to be with you!”

“He doesn’t even come close at night unlike Fox …” Kay remarked haughtily.

“Too much info, Kay. I don’t need to know about my brother’s sex life!” She covered her ears.

“Ha! What sex life? He doesn’t have one, he’s lucky he still has a libido.” Kay countered again. “Anyway, back to the original topic … Theresa, you know you can’t pass Fox’s baby as Ethan’s. There’s no way Ethan will buy it.”

“Oh, yes, he will. Because I slept with him the night after I had bedded Fox.” Theresa replied testily.

“Theresa, you’re ruining Whitney’s life the way you have ruined mine. Don’t you know you can’t keep stringing Fox into your web of lies?” Kay whispered, shaking her head.

“Fox only loves me. He used you just to get even with me and he’s doing the same with Whitney.”

Yeah, and Fox has too many kids lingering around; mine, yours, and hers. “Theresa, don’t be so smug. Fox will do the math. And he will hate you for keeping such a momentous secret from him.”

“Fox will never know!” Theresa protested.

“From your lips to God’s ears, Theresa. You keep telling yourself that. You’re going to pay for wrecking my life! And I will see to it that you’ll suffer exceedingly!”

“What about Whitney? Don’t you care about her happiness?” Theresa intruded on Kay’s utterance.

“Oh, yes, I do … very much. She needs to know how dirty Fox really is! And that he’s been sleeping with a whore like you!”

“If I’m a whore, than that makes you one, too.” Theresa sassed back. “Believe me, honey, you weren’t all that, Fox has told me how sluttish you are in the bedroom, and how he had to get up in the morning just to run away from you.”

“You little tramp!” Kay slapped her senseless.

“It’s true, if the shoe fits …” Theresa rubbed the sting on her cheek, smiling.

“You will suffer, Theresa. You most certainly will when I get done with you.” Kay warned her, showing herself out.

“Yeah, right, Kay, you have no proof that Fox is the father of my child, because what we had discussed will stay in these four walls forever.” She grinned mischievously, ascending the stairs to change into her evening gown for her celebration of love with Ethan.

“Whitney, what’s the matter?” Fox sauntered in the bedroom, observing his wife wallowing in her tears. When he saw how she didn’t respond, he became nervous and tried to get her to look at him.

“How dare you lie to me, Fox?” Whitney blasted on him at last after smacking him lethally.

“What did I do now?” Fox was confused by her accusation. “First you was angry with me for drinking the last glass of orange juice this morning … and now you’re yelling at me? For what?”

“How could you not tell me that you have a baby by Kay Bennett and you slept with Theresa the night I’ve found out you had used me!” She cried.

“What? Where did you? …”

“Don’t lie to me, Fox!” Whitney scolded him. “I have it all on tape!”

“On tape? What in bloody blazes are you talking about?” Fox frowned at her.

“Oh, now you’re going to play dumb, Fox? I know you had a past with Kay! And I know you have slept with Theresa, and you didn’t tell me about it!”

“If you believe I did all of these things, Whitney? Then show it to me, “ he dared her.

Whitney gladly reversed the tape and played the conversation between Kay and Theresa. “And to answer your question before you ask … Kay showed me evidence that you and your daughter are related. How dare you pay her off to leave Harmony?”

“Whitney, I didn’t know I have a baby with Kay. She never even told me!” Fox defended for himself.

“And you want me to believe you?” Whitney tapped her foot in an irately manner.

“Whitney, I had no idea. Yes, I had paid her off to get rid of her—only because she was ruining my chance with Theresa. I didn’t know I had knocked her up.”

“And you’re going to tell me you didn’t know you had knocked up Theresa either! You are so full of it, Fox. It is unbelievable!” Whitney threw her hands in the air and snagged the suitcase she had packed earlier.

“Whitney, where are you going?” He noticed the black case in her hand as she walked past him.

“Away from you!” She screamed.

“Away from me? Whitney, you can’t possibly mean that! You can’t leave me! You’re so close to giving birth any time soon!” He reminded her.

“Well, count me out! I’m sure you can be there when Theresa gives birth to your baby. Go to Hell, Fox! Go to Hell!” She growled.

“Whitney, wait, you got to believe me that I never meant to keep my life a secret.” He went after her.

“Don’t you touch me!” She hollered.

“Whitney, please stay!” He begged.

“I’m not staying with you, Fox! You have made your choice when you had impregnated Theresa and lied about Kay! No wonder you were so hell bent on having Kay here, it's because you two had a fling, and you didn’t want me to know about it! Do you take me as some fool?” Salty water was streaming down her cheeks tremendously.

“Fool? No, baby. I love you.” He affirmed softly.

“Love? What’s the first thing you know about love? If you love me so much, Fox, you would have told me before letting me walk down that aisle!” She vented.

“True, but I still love you, you’re my heart and soul, Whitney. No other woman comes before you.”

“Bull crap, Fox! It’s bull, and don’t bother calling me, visiting me, or talking to me! I hate you!” She whimpered. “I hate you for ruining my life!”

“Whitney, you don’t mean it?” Fox was hurt by her piercing words.

“Oh, yes, I do. I don’t ever want to see you again!”

“Whitney, please stay,” he held her hand.

“Let me go, Fox. This is the last time you’ll ever get to see me or touch me! I’ve had it with your lies and tricking me into your world to love the ‘new and improved’ you. Goodbye!” She ambled out of the house furiously, refusing to look back, heading to Eve’s car.

“Whitney, please don’t go!” He bellowed, dropping to his knees, sorrowing for his wife who has learned the horrible truth about his past life.
