Chapter 9

Whitney came out of the shower, smiling at the man who was sleeping in her bed composedly. He was resting like a baby and she couldn’t help but to gush with ecstasy when fixing her eyes upon him, there’s something about him that is addictive. Whatever is in his aura, she likes it and she doesn’t know if she’ll be able to pull away.

She decided to make breakfast for him; after all, he did come over to see her, so why not return the favor? She skipped to the kitchen happily, loving the warmth feeling of how the sunrays tickle her skin sensibly.

Whitney opened the refrigerator, fixing some omelets with cheese and green onions. She took out other ingredients for banana nut pancakes, grits, and bacon. She certainly didn’t waste any time getting down to business before Fox wakes up.

Simone crept inside from the front door without Whitney’s acknowledgement that she has arrived home. She tiptoed quietly, hoping not to wake up her sister. She stepped in her sister’s room to check on her. Simone peeked at the person who was lying in Whitney’s bed. That looked just like Fox. I wonder if Whitney had let him stayed for the night. If she did, go Whitney. I knew you wouldn’t be able to resist Fox. He is a charmer, and he knows how to get to you whether you want to admit it or not. My sister … she shook her head, grinning. Has finally let love come into her life. I just hope she can get it right with Mom before it’s too late.

Simone heard the doorbell and fled out of Whitney’s room swiftly, hurrying to the door and opened it. She smiled brightly when she saw Eve standing at the door. “Mom! Hey, how are you?” Simone hugged her with a daughterly love.

“Oh, Simone, my sweet baby, I am doing well, how have you been?” She gladly welcomed Simone’s embrace and returned the same gesture to her youngest daughter.

“Life has been wonderful! I am so happy to see you.” She blurted excitedly.

“Really? What for?” Eve had walked in after Simone motioned for her to come inside.

“I want you to meet my boyfriend Alan. Do you think you’re able to meet him tonight?” Simone whispered.

“Really, Simone? You would want me to meet your boyfriend?” Eve started to cry.

“Oh, Mom, I know you’re sentimental, but please don’t make me cry. I hate to see you cry.” Simone beamed widely.

“How about seven?” Eve marveled.

“Seven sounds fine to me.” Simone commented, beaming.

“How’s Whitney?” Eve questioned with regard.

“Mom, she’s doing well. If you’re wondering will she come to meet us at the Lobster Shack, she will … don’t worry, I have my ways to convince her.” Simone winked at her.

“I don’t want to make her more upset than she already is with me, Simone.” Eve mumbled considerably.

“Mom, at some point in time, Whitney has got to forgive you, and this is a stepping stone. She can’t be mad with you always, she’ll understand that no one is perfect.” Simone exhaled collectively.

“Thanks, Simone, it would mean a lot to me if you have brought Whitney to the Lobster Shack, I want to sort everything out with her.” Eve squeezed her youngest daughter again. “See you later, Simone.

“See you until then, Mom. Take care.” Simone waved and closed the door. She sniffed the enticing aroma of food seeping from the kitchen and she opted to sneak in. she beamed widely while Whitney was still busy cooking.

“Maybe I won’t have to persuade her, and she won’t suspect it was from me if I put Fox up to it.” Simone murmured and hurried to see Fox in Whitney’s bedchamber.

“Fox? Where did he go?” She didn’t see him in bed anymore and wondered where he went. “He couldn’t have gone far …” she shook in a deathly manner when she saw Fox coming out of the bathroom with a towel around his waist. “Oh, my bad, Fox, I didn’t know you was taking a shower. I’ll come back when you’re properly dressed.” Simone closed her eyes.

“Good morning. Simone, it’s all right. You can look at me. What’s up?” Fox simpered a bit when he saw the girl blushing.

“This is awkward. But, ah, I was wondering if you can convince Whitney to come to the Lobster Shack?” Simone didn’t hesitate on letting him know the deal.

“Why? What are you up to, Simone?” Fox could already tell Simone was up to something, but he couldn’t figure out what.

“Please, Fox, this is important. I want my mother and sister to make amends with one another. She’s going to be there tonight. She’s meeting my boyfriend and it’ll be great for her to meet you. Do you think you can help me with Whitney and my mother? I really want them to make up.” Simone implored discreetly.

Fox heard her out and responded, “I can’t promise you anything, Simone, but I’ll see what I can do. But you must know Whitney isn’t going to go for it.” He reminded her.

“I know, but I know you’ll be a sweetie and do it for me.” Simone pleaded.

“Of course I will … anything to make Whitney happy.” Fox waved at her.

“I get it, you have to get dressed. And don’t forget to stop by the kitchen, there’s breakfast in there waiting for both of us.” Simone notified him and departed.

“No prob, Simone.” He laughed foolishly and threw on his clothes after the towel had hit the floor.

Fox came out of Whitney’s room and followed the scent of food coming from the kitchen, marveling what Whitney has whipped up. He pushed the door open and beamed at the two women who were chatting amongst themselves, not noticing Fox was in there until their eyes met with his. “Fox, I’m so glad you’re awake. How did you sleep?” Whitney pressed her hands together, flaunting her gorgeous smile at him.

“Slept like a baby. Is that food I smell in here?” He strolled closely to the pots and skillets, peeping in all of them. “Ouch,” he glowered he when Whitney had hit him on the back of his head.

“No peeping, Fox. I’m here to serve everyone. You two sit down and enjoy this feast I have made this morning.” Whitney announced, hoping they would abide.

“You’re the boss.” Fox feigned a salute gesture towards Whitney and chuckled.

“Boy, I hope you’re not like that when you taste my cooking.” Whitney frowned slightly at him.

“You better pray that I won’t hurl, your cooking better be worth it.” He bantered, pulling his seat close to the table.

“Fox, you’re going to love Whitney’s cooking. She’s great with food.” Simone complimented, trying to take Fox away from joking so much.

“Ok, I am holding you to it.” Fox’s eyebrows went up while gazing at Simone with skepticism.

Whitney had served everyone his or her plates. Just when Fox was about to dig in, Simone had cleared her throat, informing him she’s going to say grace. “Lord, thank you for giving us our daily bread, let it be nourishing for our minds and the healing of our bodies in Jesus‘ name. Amen.”

“Amen.” They enunciated.

Fox must admit he’s new to something like this, he never knew Simone and Whitney were into saying grace before eating. There’s a first time for everything and he guess he could get used to it. He took a bite into the omelet and made a pleasing expression at her cooking.

“Well, what do you guys think?” Whitney queried nervously.

“This is not bad. Not bad at all. I never knew you cook, Whit, how come you didn’t tell me?” Fox was definitely amazed, sipping on his glass of orange juice.

“Well, I just wanted to surprise you.” She couldn’t really express what was lingering in her heart when Fox quizzed her. A part of her is feeling dismal because she doesn’t know the status of their relationship and she’s not certain if Fox is willing to be serious with her.

“You have surprised me well, Whit. I will have to stop by more often. It’s not everyday a fellow gets a home cooked meal.”

“Really? I thought you do eat well coming from a presti-” Simone had to cut her sentence short when Fox sent her a ‘don’t tell her that I’m a Crane’ look.

“Fox, you don’t eat home cooked meals?” Whitney asked in concern.

“No, I was in boarding school for the most part of my life.” He explained.

“Do you get home cooked meals on the holidays?” Whitney pumped.

“Holidays aren’t holidays in my family’s household, but enough about my family. Let’s get to yours.” He had their conversation transitioned into another one smoothly.

“What about mine?” Whitney became defensive and tense.

“I was thinking that you, me, Simone, and Alan should all hang at the Lobster Shack this evening, I want to get to know your sister and her boyfriend better. You wouldn’t mind, would you, Whit?” Fox inquired warily.

“I don’t see a problem with it, if Simone doesn’t mind.” Whitney moved her eyes towards her younger sister.

Simone merely choked and put the glass down without delay. “Not at all, Whit. I am looking forward to getting know Fox, too.” She beamed easily. “It’s not everyday I get to see my sister being with a guy, a handsome one at that. “Say about seven?” Simone was jumping for joy internally when Fox had put their plan to motion.

“Seven it is. I guess it’s a date, Fox. Pick me up around six.” Whitney notified him.

“Yes, Miss Whitney.” He grinned, thinking about last night and how well it went. He was just pondering on all the things he can do to her. He can tell she hasn’t explored her sexual being quite enough. And he wants to be certain that he’s the one that can push all of her inhibitions out of her. And instill her womanly desires in her. He shook his thoughts. Fox, are you getting next to this girl because she can give good sex? You bet, it’s not like we’re serious … but how long will you pull this scheme off? You want to make Theresa and the other girl to pay dearly for clowning you. And you have to take advantage. Besides, Whitney isn’t contemplating about monogamy … and she won’t be any time soon. She hasn’t mentioned the “r” word yet. You have nothing to fear.

“Fox, may I have a word with you?” Whitney tapped him out of his concentration.

“Yeah, Whit? Where’s Simone?” Fox took a gander around him, observing how she disappeared instantly.

“She had to go to work. Are you all right? You have zoned out when Simone and I was chatting away. Is there anything you would like to share with me?” She mumbled.

“No, I was thinking about last night. We had a wild time, but I would like to have even wilder times with you. If you get my drift.” He purred seductively, pulling her into his lap.

“Oh, Fox, you’re so silly … who knows? Maybe we’ll get some action tonight, if you’re on your best behavior.” Whitney raised a sensually daring brow at him.

“You know I will … I just hope you don’t go back on your word.” Fox kissed her cheek tenderly as Whitney coerced him into an enticing kiss before he had to leave.

Simone and Alan, and Whitney and Fox were all at the Lobster Shack like they had promised, as they were conversing about knowing one another interests while Whitney noticed there was a fifth seat. “Does anyone know who this seat belongs? Did the waiter put this chair there by mistake?”

“I, uh, …” they all didn’t know how to explain until Eve had walked in, finding her way to the table.

“I’m sorry you all. I hope I’m not too late.” Eve sat in her reserved chair.

“What is she doing here?” Whitney snarled.

“Whitney, aren’t you glad to see me?” Eve interrogated sadly.

“Glad? I’m horrified! This table was only reserved for us, you’re not invited here!” She hissed.

“Whitney!” Simone chided her.

“No, I will not enjoy dinner if she’s going to be here. We can kiss this night goodbye!” Whitney huffed.

“Whitney, wait, can’t you try to reason with your mother. I mean she’s your mom. You can’t pick who your mother is.” Fox replied wisely.

“Fox, I don’t want to bother talking to this liar!” Whitney growled.

“Whitney, I think you’re being unreasonable.” Fox muttered, trying to keep the crowd’s eyes away from their table.

“I’m being unreasonable? Do you have anything to do with this, Simone?” Whitney glared at her.

“Whitney, before you go shooting my head off, you need to understand why I had her over here.” Simone began.

“Please enlighten me, Simone, because I surely don’t see the humor in this!” Whitney retaliated, crossing her arms.

“Whitney, Mom wants to be in your life again. Can’t you at least give her a chance to be the mother she has always been to us?” Simone pleaded for Whitney to have mercy on their mother.

“Simone’s right, Whit, you should give your mother another chance.” Alan concurred.

“Was I even talking to you, Alan?” Whitney roared even more.

“Excuse me?” Alan scowled at her incredibly.

“Alan, this doesn’t concern you. My family and I have been dysfunctional way before you entered Simone’s life!” she seethed.

“Whitney, that is enough! I will not let you disrupt everyone’s evening all because you have issues with our mother! You need to owe everyone here an apology!” Simone grumbled, giving her an evil stare.

“When Hell freezes over, Simone. I’m sorry to disappoint everyone, but I am not going to waste my evening on talking to this drug addict and lying whore! I’m out of here.”

Eve had enough of Whitney’s ranting and slapped her in front of everyone. “Well, it’s the truth.” Whitney ranted, heading out of the door.

“Simone, there’s no getting through her. She’s going to hate me forever.” Eve began whimpering away as Alan and Simone comfort her with their love.

“Whitney, don’t you think you owe your mother an apology?” Fox probed, running after her.

Whitney cast her eyes away from the cars in the parking lot and narrowed her dark orbs on Fox intensely. “Fox, you are in no position to tell me what I should or should not say to my mother! You have no idea how much her lies have hurt me!”

“I still say you’re being irrational, Whit! Your mother adores the ground you walk on, and here I am wishing that my mother would give me some kind of attention. And here you are complaining about her past mistakes!” Fox stated excitedly.

“In case you have forgotten, Fox, her ‘past mistakes’ as you put it, has ruined my life literally! I slept with my own brother and miscarried his child no less! This is something I can’t get past.” She rejoined shakily.

“Oh, yes, you can. You two can work this out. And it will start tonight.” Fox demanded her.

“Have you lost your hearing, Fox? I’m not going back in there. And if you force me to speak to her then you can kiss our night goodbye!” Whitney threatened him.

“What?! You can’t be serious!” Fox was taken aback by her sudden ultimatum.

“I mean it, Fox, if you push me on this, you can kiss me as being your friend goodbye!” Whitney wasn’t bluffing on her statement as Fox seen the heated look written in her eyes.

“Whitney …”

“Fox, don’t push it.” Whitney said through clenched teeth.

“Fine, do you want me to take you home?” Fox offered, shoving his hands in his pants pockets.

“That’s all right, Fox, I can manage going home by myself. I have a taxi waiting for me.”

“What? You got to be joking me, Whit? You’re seriously not angry with me, are you?” Fox’s shoulders dropped all at once.

“Does it look like I am joking, Fox? I’ll talk to you when I have cooled off, until then, don’t say anything else to me.” Whitney hopped in the taxi before Fox could say another word to her as he watched the vehicle riding away.

“Fox, you have screwed up this time. How are you going to win Whitney back? You need her to get even with Theresa … this is just great. What am I going to do now?” He soughed heavily and decamped from the Lobster Shack, leaving Eve, Simone and Alan behind.
