My Baby’s Gone, Chapter 25
Ethan walked into the Harmony Police Department.
“ Hi Dad.”
“ Ethan! You’re back!”, Sam said, as he smiled at his son.
“Do you have time for a walk and talk?”
“Sure.”
Sam and Ethan left the station, and walked to the park, getting coffees
along the way.
“You didn’t tell us that you were coming back.”
“I’m not here for long, Dad. I came back from Tokyo to sign the final divorce
papers.”
“Oh, I thought..”
“ Yeah, so did I, but it turns out there was some confusion with the papers.
“
“ How do you feel about it?”
“Being in Tokyo has given me some perspective on the situation with Gwen
and Theresa. I wasn’t right to either one of those women. And, something happened
today.”
“What?”
“Somehow, even though I didn’t publicize it, Theresa found me today to plead
for me to help Luis.”
“Oh no.”
“And, of course, Gwen was there, and she and Theresa got into it.”
“It just felt like I was in a time warp. It was so much negative energy.
Me leaving was best for everyone. All of us need time to heal and move on.
So much hurt.”
“ I understand, Ethan.”
“So, Dad, on the quiet, how’s Luis?”
“Are you his lawyer?”
“Honestly, no, because I’m not going to be in town, but Gwen agreed with
Theresa, once Theresa had left my office. “
“ Interesting.”
“ Yeah, but being in that situation, it just made me realize how much damage
the three of us had inflicted on one another. That Theresa found out that
I was in town, when I told nobody…it was scary. “
“I bet.”
“ I love both Gwen and Theresa. Theresa probably more, but I can’t be with
either one of them. The three of us are toxic for one another, and now I realize
that I’m going to ask for a permanent transfer to Tokyo.”
“ Ethan!”
“ Dad, you and the family can come visit me. Being halfway around the world
is probably the only way Theresa will move on with her life. Gwen’s done with
me, and I owe her the time to herself to get her life back together. “
“ I hear ya, Ethan.”
“ So….how about Luis’ case? No leads on Sheridan?”
“ No. She was taken in the middle of the night from her hospital.”
“ She never should have been there!”, Ethan said, furious.
“ Probably not, but she was definitely kidnapped from there.”
“ And, they suspect Luis?”
“ Yes.”
“ Do you suspect Luis?”
“ Honestly, I don’t know what to think. If this were the woman that I loved,
and she was locked up against her will, with evil like Alistair lording over
her treatment - I’d kidnap her too.”
“ Amen. But, Dad, IF Luis did kidnap her, then whose taking care of Sheridan?
What’s going to happen to her if Luis can’t get back to her?”
“ I don’t know, and the FBI has completely frozen me out.”
“ Alistair’s connections.”
“ You bet.”
“ Has any other attorney been there to see Luis?”
“ No. He has asked for one, but the FBI is playing hardball with him.”
“ But, he’s a cop. He knows their game.”
“ True.”
“ What bothers you most about this, Dad?”
“ The question of – what if Luis ISN’T the one who kidnapped Sheridan?”
“ And, the FBI is wasting time, and Sheridan’s life is in danger.”
“ Exactly.”
Julian and Eve sat and ate lunch together.
“ You feel better, Julian?”
“ Being with you always makes me feel better.”
Eve rolled her eyes. “ Will you finally heed my warnings about Sheridan?
Believe that as the doctor, I know best?”
“ Yes, DOCTOR.”, Julian teased.
Eve shook her head. “ So, how are things at the Mansion? I’m sure Alistair
is going crazy.”
Julian smiled. “ Absolutely crazy. It’s quite enjoyable. “
“ Julian, this is serious.”
“ Eve, I know that. I know that my father is a dangerous man. But, I think
we’ve got Sheridan safe – for now. “
“ What else do you need to do?” Just then, Eve’s phone rang. “ Hello? Hi
Sweetie? No, I didn’t forget about your trip money. It’s in the cookie jar.
Yes, along with the emergency form. You’re welcome. Anything, else, Simone?
Ok, see you at home.”
“ Simone going on a trip?”
“ Actually, she’s going on a debate tour. They’re going to Port Charles,
New York to Port Charles University for a few days. The regional debates are
coming up, and the school thought it would be good to practice against a
good team. Last year, PCU came to Harmony. “
“ Simone’s going to Port Charles? “ Julian smiled.
“ Julian…..”
“ Eve, Darling, we need Simone’s help.”
“ Julian….”
“ Sheridan needs Simone’s help.”
