Today’s show was pretty funny.

Subject: Julian admires Theresa’s ability to lie on her feet!

It’s settled. Ethan ‘Edumb’ Winthrop is definitely the lifelong President of DENSA. No matter what Miguel does, Ethan is older, and so, it makes his mistakes even more ridiculous.

So, we begin today where we left off on Friday: Ivy has the annulment papers in her hand. She points out that Theresa has signed them, and comes to the only conclusion possible: Julian and Theresa married in Bermuda.

The entire goings on in the Library today was so funny. What WASN’T said was as good as what WAS said.

Rebecca comes in, right as Ethan is asking if Theresa had married Julian.  To Rebecca, things are FINALLY making sense. She accuses Theresa of being a golddigger, saying that she took Ethan from Gwen, and now Ethan wasn’t good enough, so she went after Julian. Pilar tells Rebecca to shut up, and Rebecca is like, ‘ I don’t think so’, and comments that the entire family is after the money. First Luis with Sheridan, and Theresa with Ethan. Pilar wants to go after Rebecca, but, Ethan  and Theresa hold her back.

Ethan says that it’s ridiculous, and he knows that Theresa has a perfectly logical explanation for things. Rebecca and Ivy want to know why Theresa signed on the line above ‘Mrs. Julian Crane’. She tells them that she doesn’t know what they’re talking about. She doesn’t know what she signed. She then spins the tale that she came to see Julian about getting money for Ethan’s law firm. She goes to get the check and shows it to Ethan and tells him that Julian asked her to sign papers, so she did.

The look on everyone’s faces as she was spinning this tale was terrific. It was obvious that Rebecca and Ivy weren’t buying it in the least. Julian totally cracked me up. He was in total admiration of Theresa’s ability to lie so well on her feet. You could tell that he was impressed…LOL

Edumb, of course, fell for it, hook, line and sinker.

Rebecca and Ivy, though, just didn’t get it. Even if Theresa could spin a good yarn, there was the little matter of the annullment papers: WHY did Julian have them?

Well, now it was Julian’s turn to be on the hotseat.

Julian says that Harper sent over the papers. They don’t buy it; Harper is a smart attorney, and would know that Ivy would never sign an annulment. Julian says that he and Alistair have been working him too hard, and maybe it was just a mistake.

They don’t push it, and Ethan takes the papers and says that Julian can’t try anymore tricks. That Ivy will get what she deserves, and that the annulment papers were a waste of time. The look on Pilar’s face as Ethan tore up the papers cracked me up. When he threw them in the garbage she looked like she wanted to climb into the garbage can and paste it back together again.

Ethan tells Theresa that he knew nothing was wrong, and that he loves her for thinking of him,  but that she didn’t need to come to Julian for the money. That he’s glad they don’t have any secrets (DUH), and that they should just leave. Pilar, who has watched them, comments that Theresa IS keeping secrets, and that she knows they will all come out.

Rebecca and Ivy share a meeting of the minds. Neither one believes that what took place in the library was the truth. Rebecca may be a Ho, but, her instincts are very good, and she’s one of the smartest people in Harmony. She has put it all together: Julian/Theresa whispering together in Bermuda, the nervousness of the Justice of the Peace and his deep hesitation about marrying Julian and Rebecca. Rebecca can ‘sense’ Theresa being trouble, and Ivy has to agree with her. It cracked me up to see these two women agree on anything..LOL

Meanwhile, Julian is in the library, guzzling down a brandy, and telling Harper to fix another set of annulment papers, because ‘the vultures are circling’.

NO sympathy for Theresa. She had the chance to tell the truth, and of course, she CHOSE a lie. Cracked me up that she chose the lie of the money, because if she had gotten away with it, she would have had another lie to tell Ethan, because she never intended to tell him where the money came from that helped him start his firm.

Subject: So Many Holes in the Sheridan Mess

‘Diana’ and the crew down in Bermuda, are waiting for the fax. ‘Diana’s’ Standish (IMO) instincts, tell her that the fax has something to do with her. They try to get her to not get her hopes up too much, but, she’s excited about going back to her life.

She tells Brian that she’s sure that the man she is seeing is the love of her life. She can feel the love in the flashbacks that she’s getting. Liz warns Brian that if this is about Diana, then she’s going to leave. He says that he knows she will, and only wanted a little more time with her.

It’s no secret that I have no good feelings about this story. I see no chemistry between Brian and Sheridan, and think it’s creepy that the guy is talking about love when he doesn’t even know her.

The fax doesn’t come in because the fax machine is out of paper – duh!

Once Liz refills the paper, the machine begins again, and something comes through – Fax Cancelled.

‘Diana ‘ is upset and goes away to think about it. While thinking, she has another flashback – to when she and Luis were in the Crane Vault and he was electrocuted. She remembers holding him in her arms, and thus, she believes that he has died. Well, Brian’s only too happy to hear this.

As regular Passions viewers, we get used to a level of unreality, so that the obvious will escape us. I bring this up because I was watching Passions today with my niece, and the two things that she doesn’t understand:
1. Why hasn’t Diana filled a Missing Persons Report on HERSELF with the authorities?
2. When talking with the Captain about the fax, why didn’t Liz mention it to him that she had a woman staying with her that had washed up on shore, and had no memory?
I had to nod my head in agreement with my niece, only pointing out some more the ridiculousness of this story. Everything that she said was completely logical, and made total sense – which is why we don’t see it on Passions.

But, my niece coming up with such obvious holes in the story points to another reason why I think the show’s ratings are falling; it’s because of this dedication, it seems to completely plot over character-driven stories. When you use dumb plot twists like this, especially ones that are repeating stories that we’ve seen in the past 12 months, it grates on the audience, and they begin to grow weary of the show.

Subject: Luis – giving up?

Luis is pumped about the search. He tells Sam that the rose was a sign from Sheridan for him to not stop looking. He also apologizes to Sam for intimating that David was the love of Grace’s life. Sam tells Luis that he needs to take time off because he’s been through some deep emotional stuff, and that he needs time to heal. Luis doesn’t want to, but, Sam insists.

Sam leaves to go home, and Beth comes by. Luis is going on about the ‘sign’ from Sheridan, and Beth tells him that SHE was the one who left the rose. She didn’t mean any harm by it; she was thinking of Luis and wanted him to know it.

Luis feels defeated by it. He is finally beginning to accept that Sheridan is gone, and so he calls up the Captain in Bermuda and tells him that he can stop the search. He knows that Sheridan is dead.

Luis and Beth have a talk. Luis says that if someone had to go through the process of mourning, he prefers that it is him. He recalls how Sheridan was so pained when she thought that he had died in the Crane Vault, and he didn’t want that for her. Beth tells Luis that she knows how much pain he’s in, because she lost someone too. Luis asks her who, and then realizes that she’s talking about him. He tells her that he’s sorry, and she tells him that it’s not his fault. She knows that he didn’t want to hurt her, it just happened that way.

I feel so bad for Beth. She’s waited HOW LONG for Luis? I wish she’d just go on and find someone. I always thought it would be Hank, but that was when Dalton was playing him. I can’t even dislike her; I just feel sorry for her, wasting her life away on a guy who doesn’t love her, and will never love her that way.

Subject: Oh, Kay…you crack me up

Kay and Simone are talking. Kay makes Simone aware of the happenings in her family, and that she’s now a bastard. Simone made me smile, and the ‘don’t say that, Kay’. Come on, this is 2001, why is this such a big deal. Like I said before, it’s not like Grace was on the Most Wanted List somewhere and deliberately mislead Sam. This happened because of amnesia.

Kay believes this is proof that trying to be good just doesn’t pay. Simone tells her not to use this excuse to turn away from doing good. Kay not only uses her parents, but, also comes up with Luis and Sheridan, Ethan and Theresa (?- uh, am I supposed to forget the Theresa/Kay showdowns of before – but, anything for ‘ The Hustle’). Kay says that this only tells her to go after what she wants, no matter what. Simone tells her that her parents will work through all of this.

They go into Tabitha’s kitchen, and what do they see?

Grace and David kissing.

Kay GOES OFF!

I had to cheer Kay today. She cracked me up. She asked David why he was there and what was he doing attacking her mother like that. Kay had a few choice words for David, telling him that he was scum, going after her mother like that, trying to break up their family. I loved Kay in attack mode; this was very much Kay Bennett. She loves her family, and, she is very protective of him. That she would bring up Sam to both Simone and David is very true to character.

Grace can’t believe that Kay is this forceful and tells her that she shouldn’t be acting this way around David. Kay, on the other hand, doesn’t quite grasp why her mother is defending David in the least. Doesn’t Grace see that David is up to no good, and has decided to try and ruin their family by taking Grace away from them?

Sam comes up to the door and hears that Kay is upset. He enters the kitchen, and Kay runs to him, telling him that David is ruining everything and asks Sam if he can throw David in jail – LOL, she sure is Sam’s daughter alright.

Grace says that it’s between the adults, and that Kay should let them talk. Sam asks Kay to go upstairs, and she storms out. Sam was pretty shocked to hear about the kiss, and wants some answers. This is the Sam that I love. He’s a good man, who loves his  family above all else, and wants them to be together. He is very scared at the thought that David could make him lose his family, and he’s never thought Grace would have feelings for another man – he just finished saying so to Luis. So, hearing about the kissing is unsettling indeed.

I must say- Grace seemed to be getting into that kiss…LOL
