“Julian?” she said.

“Yes?”

“We never even got to tell him I was pregnant.” She said tears running down her face.

“I know honey.”

“But we should let him know.”

“Darling, it’s pointless now, I am the baby’s father and I am sure he will figure it out.”

“Where are we going?” Eve asked hardly being able to see him clearly from crying.

“We will get a hotel room, I need to get you out of here, away from Harmony.”

“What about Rebecca?” Eve asked.

“Never mind her Eve, I don’t care about her right now, you are the only person who is important to me.” He said grabbing a box of Kleenex from the back seat.”

Julian tried to focus on the road, while trying to console her at the same time. She went through Kleenex after Kleenex trying to control her tears, but she couldn’t stop. Julian touched her cheek and when he noticed a store on the road ahead, he pulled over to park.

“Honey, just wait here a moment okay?” he said.

“Okay.”

He then returned with a bag, handing it to Eve when he sat down.

“What’s all this?” she asked.

“I thought you might need a few items, there are a few boxes of Kleenex in there, some snacks in case you get hungry, some drinks and a few magazines I thought you might like. I wasn’t sure what to get, but I tried to use my best judgment.” He said looking at her.

“Thanks Julian.”

“Sure.”

Julian didn’t say much on the way; he thought she might just need some quiet time for a little while as he noticed she was just gazing out the window. When they arrived at the hotel, he came around to the other side of the car and opened the door for her.

“Come on sweetheart, we’re here.” He said taking her by the hand and helping her out of the car.

He put his arm around her as they walked into the lobby and she watched Julian as he checked in, almost in a trance from what had happened.

“Thanks.” He said to the clerk and they went upstairs.

Julian opened the door to the room and put his car keys on the table. Eve didn’t say anything; she just sat in the chair by the desk. Julian kneeled down to her, taking her hands for a minute.

“What can I do for you?” he asked.

“Nothing Julian, I am fine for the moment.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes, actually, I am just going to go to the bathroom.” She said getting up.

He nodded and then sat down on the edge of the bed, covering his face with his hands.

“Julian, I look so awful.” She said her eyes bloodshot from crying.

“No dear, you could never look awful, come and sit beside me for a minute.” He said patting the bed.

Eve sat down next to him, she put her head on his shoulder and he played with her tresses. He didn’t say anything, nor did she, but they just sat there quietly. He wanted her to know that she was not alone.

“Oh Julian.” She said looking at him for a moment.

“I know honey, everything is going to be alright, don’t you worry, you can count on me, I am not going anywhere, I promise you.”

She tried to fight back the tears and although she loved Julian dearly, her heart was now breaking and he totally understood why.

“Honey, don’t be afraid to let out your emotions with me. I know this is a very difficult time for you right now, if you need a good cry, you go right ahead.” He said concerned.

“I have already cried so much Julian.”

“That’s okay Eve.”

“I don’t want you to think that I am unhappy because of my decision, it’s just…oh I don’t know.”

“You still love him and that’s okay, you two shared a life together. Regardless of the fact that we are about to embark on a new beginning, you have every right to feel this way.” Julian said.

“Why are you so understanding? You never get angry or upset about anything Julian.”

“I am in love with you, and part of loving you means being understanding. Eve, I want you to be able to trust me, love me, count on me for everything. I think over time I have become more compassionate and easy going and that has helped me to understand what a loving relationship is all about.”

The love that he had for her brought tears again to her eyes, she was very emotional and sensitive right now. And Julian was being just perfect in handling the situation.

“If you don’t mind, I am just going to get ready for bed Eve, I will only be a few minutes, do you need anything?” he asked.

“I only ask for one thing.” Eve said.

“Anything.” He said wiping her tears away.

“You Julian, all I need is you.” She said hugging him.

He gave her a gentle kiss, before shutting the bathroom door. When he started the shower, he thought of Eve, wanting to ask her to join him, but it wasn’t an appropriate time for that, as she was in so much pain right now. Eve lay there on the bed, feeling so depressed, she should be happy that the truth came out, but it was just the way T.C. acted when he told her to leave. She expected him to be angry, but he was just fuming. She felt very lost and unsure what to think, her mind racing with many thoughts. Julian then returned to the bedroom, the towel wrapped around his waist. He sat next to Eve on the bed, but she didn’t even flinch, she was so quiet. Julian rubbed her back as she lay there, just letting her know that he cared. She turned around to face him then, still lying with her head on the pillow.

“Are you sure I can’t get you anything love? I feel like I need to be doing something.” Julian said.

“You are fine Julian.”

“Whatever you need I can get for you Eve, a drink, anything? I will get dressed and go out if you want me to.”

“No thanks Julian, I will be okay.”

“Why don’t we get under the covers then, it’s a bit chilly, of course I am only in a towel and still wet of course.” He said smiling slightly.

Eve didn’t say anything, but got up and moved the blankets back. She lay down and pulled the covers up to her neck, her back to Julian. He wasn’t sure what to do next, she was so sensitive right now and he sometimes had a tendency to say the wrong thing. The last thing he wanted to do was upset Eve, she meant everything to him. Sometimes men could put their foot in their mouths and he was no exception to that rule, so he moved himself close to her and put his arms around her, hoping this would be what she wanted and needed. She touched his hand and he interlocked his fingers with hers, grasping them firmly.

“Julian?”

“Yes dear?”

“I am so glad that you are here with me tonight, I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have you.”

“Would you look at me for a minute?” he asked.

Eve turned herself around to face him, looking into his hazel eyes.

“Listen Eve, I have never been any good at any of this stuff, I just want to say and do the right things, but if I ever say anything to upset you, you will let me know won’t you?” he asked.

“Yes Julian.”

“I am not perfect, I make mistakes like everyone else, and I just love you so much that I am almost afraid to ruin it, to cause friction between us. I know we are going to bicker here and there, all couples do, but with what just happened, I just don’t want you to hate me.”

“I could never hate you Julian and you wouldn’t ruin anything, you have been wonderful, you are my rock and I can’t tell you how much I appreciate everything you have done for me.”

Julian took her hand and brought it up to his mouth, kissing it lightly, yet very tenderly.

“You are doing just fine Julian, if you notice when I am upset, I tend to get very quiet, but that’s just me, so don’t worry.”

“Well it’s just with Ivy, we never shared an emotional connection, and we didn’t really share much of a physical one either only to have a family. But I could never talk to her like we talk, she would tell me to get lost, but you wouldn’t. Mind you, I am a different person now than I was with Ivy anyway. But I know you love to share your feelings and this is good for me as well, it is a learning experience. I used to be such a selfish and arrogant man, but now I have been given the gift of having you in my life. Someone to spoil, someone to cherish and love with all of my heart. And now that we are starting a family, I can finally learn how to be a real father.”

“Julian, now that things have turned out this way, I want more than anything to find our son. It would give me something positive to look forward to, because other than that, things aren’t as rosy as they should be.”

“I promise you, we are going to find him, I don’t care if I have travel half way across the world, I will, anything to bring our son home to you.”

“Julian, I don’t mean to be rude or cut this conversation a bit short, but I am rather tired, if you don’t mind, I would like to turn in.”

“I understand sweetheart, it’s been a very stressful day and you need your rest.”

“Goodnight Julian.”

“Goodnight Eve.”
