Chapter Thirteen

Well, how’s the fried rice with the mooshue pork?”
“It’s different, but in a good way.” Simone replies happily. She looks up from her plate and asks, “Could you hand me that chopstick, right there?”
“Here you go.” Gabe says passing her a pair from the take out spread out in front of them.
“You know, this was a really good idea.” Simone says with a smile.
“I’ll say!” Reese said appearing out of the blue, grabbing a carton of food.
Gabe and Simone both glanced up at him going for his third helping of food that night.

Simone laughed at her friend and his healthy appetite. It was a fun and simple night tonight as she and the gang had a take out and movie night in the dorms as Gabe had suggested.
“You guys have anymore snow peas?” Reese asked. “They’re Jessica’s favorite.”
“Reese, guys.” “Shhh!” “The movie’s starting.” Kay yelled sitting on the top her bed.
“Alright, Kay.” Simone replied back.
“Hurry back, Cuddle Bear.” Jessica said sweetly sitted by her sister, looking adoringly at Reese.
“Oh, I will Cuddle Bun.” Reese replies blowing kisses in her direction.
“Hey, Kay let’s watch another movie instead?” John suggests sitting nearby.
“Why?” Kay asked.

“Well, uh just cos.” “You know for some variety.” John nervously replies with a shrug.
“Well, I like this movie that I picked out.” Kay told him coldly.
“Oh come on, Kay let’s see something else like Death raiders 4.” Miguel said with a smile.
“What?” “I don’t want to see that kind of movie.” Jessica said sipping her soda.
“I agree, with Jessica.” “Miguel that’s not my kind of movie.” “It’s too scary.” Charity chimed in flipping one of her golden blonde locks over her shoulder.
“Oh, okay then we can watch the movie Kay picked out instead.” Miguel said cuddling up next to her.
“Good.” Charity replied happily with a bright smile as she fed him an egg roll.

Kay rolled her eyes in disgust, at the sight of her cousin and Miguel all cuddled up.

“Hey, are you guys going to join us?” she asked looking towards Simone sitted with Gabe.
“Were coming Kay, right after we play this hand.” Simone responds.
“I don’t know, Simone.” “I’m pretty good at this.” Gabe said with a smirk.
“Oh, well see that.” “But I’m going to beat you this time.” She replied.
“Well, well the girl has confidence, I like that!” he said holding his playing cards.
“It’s your hand.” Simone told him.
“Well, you know what after I beat you at this hand.” “I might just be kind enough to play you at a game of poker.” He states.
“You know, how to play poker?” Simone asks.
“Yeah, I thought everyone did.” Gabe says surprised. “Back in New York, me and some of my friends would have weekly games after school and rob each other of all our little petty cash.” “Nothing too big just some trust fund money.” He says with a laugh.

“So, how did you learn to play?” Simone asked sipping her soda.
“Through my Dad and well my Uncle.” Gabe admits. “My Dad’s got a major poker face too, from what I’ve been told he was a big player back in the day.”
“Really.” Simone said surprised, her eyes still staring at her new hand of cards.
“So, maybe if you’re good.” “I’ll show you how to play sometime.” Gabe says slyly.
“If, I’m good huh.” “How about if I win this hand?” Simone asks.
“Fine, you’re on.” Gabe replies with a nod.
He then finally places his hand down, and soon Simone grabs it up.
“Ha!” she says with a smile.
“What?” Gabe says in awe.
“I got ya now!” she replied placing down her card.
“Oh, man.” Gabe yells. “Do over, do over!” he cries out loud.
Simone just laughed at him being a sore loser. “I warned you!”
“Hey, I’ve got who ever is the winner!” Reese yells.
“Quiet, Reese.” Kay demands upset as she continues to glance at Miguel and Charity together.

The sight was enough to make her sick, some night she thought.

“Kay, would you stop yelling at Reese.” “He’s not doing anything.” Jessica said in his defense.
“No, Jess.” “I won’t, because no matter how you dress him up he’s always going to be your annoying boyfriend to me!” Kay replied.
“Whatever.” Jessica snapped taking a hold of Reese’s arm. “Sorry, about that Cuddle bear you know how Kay gets in her moods.”
“Its okay, Cuddle bun.” Reese replies lovingly. “I’ve got your snow peas you wanted.”
“Oh, thank you.” “You’re so sweet, to remember that I don’t eat meat.” Jessica said brightly.
“Ugh!” “If you two ever reproduce it’s going to be one sad day.” Kay muttered, as she looked over at Simone again.

Soon, she got up and went over to her. “Simone.” she said standing beside her.
“Hold on, Kay.” Simone replied placing another hand.
“Oh, Kay your friend here is a cheater.” Gabe said with a flirty smile.
“Ignore him, Kay he’s just a sore loser!” Simone snapped back.
“Simone, come on.” Kay said annoyed.
“Wait, Kay.” Simone says putting down a card.
“Oh.” “How’d you do that?” Gabe said upset.
Simone giggled, “You owe me a lesson now!” she told him.
“Okay, fine but I want another shot.” Gabe said to her.
“Alright, fine.” “But. .” Simone starts to say.

“Simone, come on already.” Kay demanded forcefully grabbing up her friend by the arm.

The two were soon huddled in the corner. “What, Kay?” Simone asked.
“I’m getting tired.” Kay replied exasperated.
“Of what?” Simone asked looking at her.
“Of seeing Blondie over there with Miguel!” “It’s about to make me sick, Simone if I see her feed him another thing.” Kay announces.
“Just look at it, look at it!” “It's disgusting.” “Oh, she makes me so sick!” she rants eyeing them.
Simone glanced over to them and the others all embraced while watching the movie.
“Kay, they’re together, and I’m sorry if that hurts you but there’s nothing you can do about it.” She said softly.
“Oh, you want to bet.” “I can go over there and throw Charity out!” Kay says with anger in her voice.
“Kay, don’t you dare.” “What will that do, Miguel will just follow her like he always does and then party will be over.” Simone told her.
“Well, I’m getting sick of this!” Kay said irritated tone.
“Kay, look deal with it alright.” “It’s not going to change, their in love and going to be together whether you like it or not.”
“Well, not if you help me.” Kay remarked.
“Help you what?” Simone questioned her arms folding up.
“You know, break them apart for good.” Kay said with a gleam in her eyes.
“Oh, hold on Kay.” “I told you before I’m not going to help you embarrass yourself.” Simone replied.

“But, Simone you’re my best friend.”
“I know, Kay.” “But that doesn’t mean that I have to agree with everything you do.” “Especially, if that means hurting people.” Simone said.
“Oh, well you mean Charity.” Kay says rolling her eyes.
“Yes, she’s been through enough Kay.” “She’s your cousin, and with her mother dying and all.”
“Please, Simone who cares.” Kay said annoyed.
“Kay!” Simone said shocked.
“Hey, over there.” Gabe says. “My cards are getting cold.”
“Simone, will be right there Gabe.” Kay replied quickly. “Hey, you want a soda?” she asked him.
“Sure,” he replied with a shrug.

Kay goes and gets a cold soda from their small fridge and then turns back to Simone.
“Oh, Simone do not look at me like that.” “That’s not what I meant okay, I just meant who cares because she has my Mom to comfort her.” “Hell, that’s all my mother ever does is fawn over her.”
“Well, Kay you shouldn’t have said that, it’s cruel.”
“Oh, Simone stop having such a soft heart!” Kay replied. “Here, take this soda over to your new best friend.” She said placing the can in her hands.
“Kay, jealousy is not a good color on you.” Simone told her.
“Yeah, and either is dumping your best friend when she needs you Simone.” Kay snapped back.
“Kay, I’m not dumping you.” Simone said softly.
“Yeah, right.” Kay replies eyeing her.
“Look, just leave them alone Kay.” “And save yourself some heartache and pain.” Simone warned her.
“Whatever.” “Miguel’s suppose to be with me and you know that Simone.” Kay whined folding up her arms in a huff.

“Kay, look . . .” Simone said softly reaching out to her.
But Kay just turned her back from her pouting; upset she says, “I’m going for a walk.”
“Kay, wait.” Simone said worried.
But Kay was gone, slamming the door behind her as she left. Simone turned around letting out a deep sigh as she went back over to Gabe.
“Hey, what took you so long?” he asked looking up at her.
“Nothing, just girl talk.” Simone replies placing his soda before him.
“Who’s hand is it?” she asks.

**~~~~***~~~***~~~~**~~~***~~~**
Wednesday night, we peeked in on the lovely Julia Carrington. The self-proclaimed overachiever of her family as she sits in her home office overlooking accounts for her law firm. She sighed deeply helping herself to another cup of herbal tea. She turns and glances at a photo of her family back in New York her mother and father Tess and Henry Hughes. She missed them greatly but knew that she couldn’t stay in New York forever. Julia in general was always a very dynamic type of person, she always spoke her mind and often too much. This was one of the traits she picked up from her mother she always felt. She had one brother, Michael whom she didn’t see that often unless he decided to pop up in her life asking for help here and there or extinction on a past loan or something. Gabe and Blair adored him though while Julia herself well she just tolerated him and his drifter ways.

In New York, as a child Julia always was influenced by her surroundings. Her father worked, as a police officer while her mother was a local schoolteacher, so of course education was always very important. Also the process of political justice hearing all the stories her father would tell after late nights of working all day. Julia knew that when she grew up she wanted to make a difference in society. So, being a strongly determined person she studied hard and found herself a way to go to law school. It was her dream to become an accomplished attorney; bringing justice to people who really needed it and usually didn’t have a voice of their own.

On her way to the top one summer day she encountered Lane and this meeting was one thing that she hadn’t expected in her six-year plan. Together the days ahead of them were very tough, society and their families had not always seen or felt what they did. No one but them knew or understood what they felt in their hearts, but as Julia knew nothing in life worth having came easily not to become a successful attorney and definitely not dealing with love. So, she decided to go with the flow and the rest, as day say was history.

So, we return our attention back to the dispositions she was covering. Soon, she gets a call it’s from her mother, Tess. Calling to see how her daughter’s doing, getting use to her new home, new town and the luxurious Carrington family lifestyle.

“Well, Mama for starters, it’s what they call old money.” Julia told her.
“Hmm, really.” “Well, we knew that Lane left something but just how much we never knew.” Tess replies.
Julia laughs, “That’s for sure.” “But it’s not all its cracked up to be.”
“Oh really.” “So how is the mysterious Edward?” she asks.
“He’s well rare.” “Very unique and everything I remembered from my first visit till now.” Julia says.
Tess laughs, “That bad huh, really shrewd and ugly.”

“Worse, Mama.” “Worse.” Julia replies. “Now he’s trying to play the nice role and get us in his ploy trying to act like were one big happy family again.”
“But, you don’t buy it.”
“No, of course not.” “He’s still the man that turned Lane away and he will always be.” Julia replies in a resentful tone.
“Well, sounds like you have some problems on your hands sweetie.”
Julia sighs deeply. “Yeah well, I’m dealing with them Mom.” “The only way I can and know how to, for Lane’s and the kids sake.” she tells her.

Julia loved talking with her mother with her she could always be brutally honest about things. Her mother, Tess was a very traditional woman, full of sass and life forever giving her opinion whether you want it or not. So that was the way she raised Julia and her brother up the same exact way.

“So, how are my grandbabies’ doing?” Tess questioned.
“Good, Gabe’s at the dorms here and Blair’s just starting to train at the local hospital.” Julia replied.
“Well, that’s good that they seem to be adjusting.”
“Yes, they are.” “So, what have you been up to lately?” Julia asked her.
“Oh, little gardening, dealing with the church and all.” “Some shopping here and there, that’s all child nothing much.” Tess replied.
“Well, how’s Dad?” Julia asks.
“He’s fine.” “Just a regular old busy body though.” “That man cannot keep still for a second.”
Julia laughs, “Yeah, that’s Dad he never could.” “He was on the force for years, and I knew that retiring wasn’t going to help.”
“Hmm, well you seem to have a lot that too.” “You and him both got that stubborn busy body gene.” “You always have to be doing something.”

“Well, how are you liking Harmony?” Tess questions.
“I think that I’m finally getting use to it.” Julia admits. “This town has a unique charm to it maybe because it’s surrounded by this huge Seascape.” “But I can see that Lane’s missed his home.”
“What about you, baby?” “You miss home?” Tess asked.
“Of course.” “I miss you and Dad.” “New York is special, crowds and all.” Julia said smiling to herself.
Tess laughs.
“So, Mom have you heard from him?” Julia asks.
“Who, Michael?” “No, not for a while.” “He’d find us when he wants too you know that.” “He always does.”
“Uh, huh.”
“Because, of course my number hasn’t changed.” Tess continues.
“Well, if you talk to him tell him that I, I mean we miss him.” “Okay.”
“Sure, sugar.”

“I love you, Mom.” “You know, its really good hearing from you.” Julia says.
“Me too.”
“Oh and you’ll be joining us for Thanksgiving right?” “Were of course having it here in Harmony.” Julia said.
“Sure, I am.” “I wouldn’t miss it.” Tess replies.
“Great.” Julia said. “Well, I have to go, but I’ll call you later on this week.”
“Alright.” “Bye, baby.” Tess says.
“Bye, Mom.” “Love you.”
“Love you too.”

The next day, we see Simone sitting in the Book Cafe with her favorite cup of coffee reading the morning paper. Lately, now that she was away from home she found herself becoming more and more like her parents. Before she would have never wanted to read the paper but lately she was dying to read the Harmony Herald even if it was just to check out her daily horoscope. Just then she sat reading her horoscope for the day, it said:

“A change is under way in your rising moon.” “Expect the unexpected tonight!” “Try to cope with the changes and insight will be discovered.”

What a strange horoscope Simone thought quietly. Soon, her cell phone ringed. It was her mother calling asking her to stop by home for a while. She wanted to see her and ask about her evening out with Drew from the week before. Simone said okay, seeing that she wasn’t far from home and realized that Eve probably just missed her. Soon, she appeared at the Russell House, Eve watched her as she walked around the corner. Upon seeing her little girl, she reached out and hugged her in a deep embrace.
“So, Mom you wanted to talk.” Simone said taking off her winter coat.
“Yes, sweetheart.” “How are you doing?” Eve asked.
“I’m good.” Simone told her nodding.
“Great.” Eve said with a smile taking a deep breath.

“Come on, and sit down sweetheart.” Eve stated motioning her over to the couch. Simone followed unaware that her sister was coming down the stairs . . .

Eve stood firmly as she watched Simone sit down, she smiled at her quietly dressed in a simple red turtleneck and black slacks, with a simple silver pendant on for sparkle and shine. Simone smiled back at her; with her hair up in a high ponytail and sweeping bangs across her face. She appeared in a rich dark chocolate colored scoop neck form fitted top and a cute mini pleaded tweed skirt. Soon, all three women appeared in the living room. From the moment she got there and first laid eyes on Whitney, Simone wanted to leave. Whitney sat quietly glancing at her sister, in the next seat as thoughts ran rapidly through her head. She appeared in a deep forest green v-neck top and sleek brown pants while her hair was pinned up on the sides and hanged down over her shoulders.

Eve approached them determined, to get her daughters to talk, reconnect and be sisters again like before. She sat them both down and looking intently from one daughter to the next she states, “Now, look girls I’m tired of you both fighting.” “This feuding as got to end, were a family.” “And as family unit we’ve got to stick together.” “Now I know it’s going to take sometime to get through our problems but we will, I believe that.” “I love you girls both so much, and you two use to be so close.” “It’s time to repair your relationship as sisters again.”
“Please,” Simone mutters to herself.
“Now, let’s sit down and try to be civil to one another and work this all out.” Eve continued.
“Come on, Mom.” “I don’t want to sit and talk with her!” Simone starts up getting up from her seat.
“Simone, sit down now.” Eve responds sitting them face-to-face.
Simone looks at her seriously, seeing Eve’s no-nonsense attitude loom out and obeys her mother’s request.

“Now, Whitney you start.”
“Okay.” Whitney says taking a deep breathe. She turns to her sister and says, “Simone, I really want to get past this anger you have for me.” “And I just realized that maybe it’s not me and Chad that you’re upset about.” “So what is it?” “What’s caused you to have so much hate towards me?” “Is it because you think I’ve gotten all the attention while growing up?” “What is it?” “Really, honestly I want to know.”
“Simone,” Eve says turning towards her.
“Well, that’s one factor.” “But, let me start from what’s happened lately.” “Let me see you betrayed me in every way possible.” “You lied to me, stabbed me in the back and kept lying to me more after that.” “Does that answer your question?” Simone states sarcastically.
Okay, Eve says.” “Whitney, back to you.”
“Simone, look I love you.” Whitney starts.
“You love yourself!” Simone snaps back sitted with her arms folded, angrily twitching her legs.

Whitney takes a deep breath, “Simone, you’re so angry right now.” “But don’t you think that I should be just as angry?” “Don’t you know how much I’ve suffered and sacrificed too?” “Not only with Daddy and Chad, but everything.” Whitney said.
“Yes, I do.” “But back then I admired you for it.” “I admired how you were sacrificing tennis over boys.” “But you still had to have more, didn’t you?” Simone replied.
“Simone, I’m hurting too you know.” Whitney says softly.
“Please, you hurt.” “I thought that sluts didn’t have feelings.” Simone snaps.
“Simone!” Eve yells.
“Simone, you don’t even know how lucky you were.” Whitney states defensively pointing at her.
“Lucky?” Simone responds baffled.

“Yes, you were the lucky one.” “You were able to go out to all the dances with your friends while I’ve always had to say in because of five am tennis practices.” “You had all the freedom, and I didn’t.” “I was so jealous sometimes, I was stuck playing the loyalty or glory game of tennis and you got all the freedom.” “Simone, look no one expects you to fail or miss a game.” Whitney stated.

Simone lets out a deep sigh, “Well, Whitney maybe that was the problem.” she responds. “No one expects anything out of me.” “No one sees me, not even enough to respect my feelings.” “My feelings about Chad, school, anything.” “It’s like I don’t even have a voice in my own family!”

“Simone, that’s not true.” Eve says looking at her.

“Well, Whitney sure didn’t.” “Not enough not to go around sleeping with Chad.” Simone said.
“Oh, God!” “Simone, this is about me and you not Chad!” Whitney responds.
“Yes, I know that.” “It’s about how you decided to ruin my life and destroy our relationship because of Chad!” Simone states.
“Simone, look I admit it I do love Chad but honey I love you just as much.” “You’re my sister, and I never would want to hurt you, never Simone not intentionally.”

“Please, get real Whitney.” Simone responded in a huff.

“I’m serious, Simone.” “I love you, why can’t you see that anymore.” “I’m sorry for hurting you the way I did.” “I tried so hard not to hurt you, but in the end that’s what happened.” “I know that you had genuine feelings for Chad, I could see it every time you looked at him.” “You just had had these stars in your eyes, you were so smitten.” “That’s why it was so hard, to tell you the truth because I knew it would crush you.” “And I knew that you would hate me because of it.” “I just thought that maybe one day you would see it from my perspective.”

Simone rolled her eyes, as Whitney continued.

“Honey, I struggled with wanting to be with Chad and wanting you have you in my life as well.” “It’s been so hard on me Simone, for years I pushed and pushed Chad away because of not wanting to hurt you.” “Or damage everyone’s expectations of me.” “I was supposed to do the right thing, the moral thing for everyone.” “I was supposed to be the older sister who you looked up to, who didn’t get into trouble and cause rifts.” “And I just messed that up, because I ignored Daddy’s number one rule.” “I wasn’t suppose to date to even think about dating, especially not Chad.” “He was seen as being dangerous, because he’s into music and nightclubs and there was just no way I was suppose to be involved with him because I had tennis.” “That was my dream, to be the big tennis champ and make everyone proud.” “But what about me and what I wanted.” Whitney said softly.

“I was so consumed with trying to please everyone else that I ignored what I wanted in life and then I fell for Chad, he was just so wonderful and kind.” “He made me see that there was more to life than just pleasing everyone else, but you know that already.” “I know that you think I betrayed you and I’m sorry for that.” “But I really wish that you would realize that I really do love Chad despite everything.” “Yet, I love you too how can I not, you’re my little sister, we grew up together.” “And we’ve gone through everything together, learning how ride bikes and playing with tea sets, everything.”

Simone sat listening to her as Eve watched her facial expressions. She could see Simone’s eyes starting to soften.

“I had the best childhood, because you were there with me Simone.” “Back then if I turned around you were just there and now I’m missing that, you just being there with me through everything the good and the bad.” “Sometimes, I just miss hearing you laugh or even seeing you smile at me again.” Whitney admitted.

“You’ve always been so easy to talk to, so sweet.” “You made me smile, I really loved that.” “Whenever I had a tough practice with Daddy or something you’d be there to cheer me up.” “That’s why I miss having you at home, I miss my sister.” “That’s why I wanted Mom to do this for us to end this rift between us.” “I want us to bury all of this Simone and move on.” “Don’t you?” “I mean, don’t you miss me at all?” Whitney asked softly as emotion filled her eyes.

Simone didn’t look at her she just stared down looking at the floor.

“Well, Simone.” Whitney said waiting on bated breath for her to answer.
“Yeah, Whitney I miss you.” Simone responds quietly.
Eve smiles feeling as though her daughters were finally reconnecting.
“What, I miss most Whitney is who you use to be, when you genuinely cared about me.” Simone told her.
“What?” Whitney said surprised looking in the direction of her mother.
Eve stared back and then turned towards Simone. “Simone, sweetheart weren’t you listening to Whitney.” “Honey, she’s asking you to forgive her and understand her faults.” Eve said patiently.

“I know Mom I heard her, but we. .we can’t go back now because too much has happened.” “I don’t feel those same feelings for you like I did before.” “I don’t feel like can I trust you anymore about anything and that’s very hard for me to get over.” Simone said in a soft, low tone wiping away tears that were forming in her eyes.

Whitney you, you make it seem so simple.” “Like I’m just suppose to forgive you’re lying to me repeatly and that everything is just suppose to magically be like it was.” “Do you not understand that my whole life has changed because of your selfish lust for Chad?” “You may call it love, but Whitney I think its’ all lust.” “You lusted for him in your heart until you finally gave in.” “And that feeling overpowered your loyalty to me.” “And it hurts!” “But besides that Whitney, you don’t seem to understand the depth of your actions.” She said trying to get them to understand her feelings.

“I’m not so blinded to the truth as much as I was before.” “Yes, I care about you because you’re my sister but there is no love lost when it comes to trying to forgive you.” “My heart’s not there right now, to be willing to forgive.” “I’ve changed in this past year, and I’m not as trusting as I was before especially to those who claim to care about me.” “Namely you, honestly.” “I realized that in order to better myself I need to isolated myself from you.” “You hurt my heart Whitney, you really do.” She said with a sniff wiping away lone tears.

“You just have this affect on me that I don’t quite understand all the time.” “Maybe it’s because you seem to get everything, love, respect everything that you want.” “And I am just seen as your shadow.” “I really can’t stand that feeling.” “I hate that, you know not being seen or recognized for me.” “Its one of the hardest things to deal with being someone else’s shadow.” “But I had to move pass that so I wouldn’t continually feel this way all of my life, never measuring up to the great Whitney.” Simone continued.

Simone was speaking from her heart, no outbursts just the honest truth.

“So we can’t go back, no it wouldn’t be the same not like it use to be.” “Me, living here at home trying constantly to be seen as something else besides your little sister or the other Russell daughter.” “That would literally make me sick!” “Don’t you understand that?” “Because to me, its hell on earth.” “So, no I’m not going there and yeah you can stop feeling so hurt because of our broken relationship, it’s not going to change.”

Both Eve and Whitney just listened to Simone trying to see things through her eyes, her perspective. Just then the phone rings, Eve gets up to answer it of course it was the hospital calling. Soon, Eve puts her foot down telling them that she has an important family matter to attend to. Yet, the hospital recipients went on distracting Eve from her daughters’ conversation at hand . . .

“You made your choice already and that was having Chad.” “So I say have him, you won him from me the night you first crawled into his bed.” “Tell me, were you thinking about me then, the moment you first laid down with him.” “Huh, and felt his naked body against yours, was it so good that you had to wear a mask of shame when you saw me.” “Tell me?” “Really, I want to know, how great your lust for him was Whitney?” Simone asked her sister in a very devalued tone.

“Simone, don’t do this?” Whitney begs softly.
“See, that’s just it.” “It wasn’t love but lust for his flesh and warmth more than the love for a sister that ruled you.” Simone said glaring at her so hard until she felt like she could have burned a hole in her head.
“That’s not true, Simone and you know it.” Whitney replied.
“Please, Whitney don’t lie because, remember I know you.” “I know, how you think.” “So, it’s time for you to finally face to naked truth.” “Your lust for Chad out-weighted your love for me.”
“Simone, stop it!” Eve shouted coming back to sit down.
“No, Whitney you admit it to me.” “Right here in front of Mom, you tell me the truth, no lies, no excuses.” “Just the honest truth.” Simone provoked.
Whitney stared at her, outraged at her comments. “The truth is Simone, that I am love with Chad.” “Real love and just because you don’t understand that, is your problem not mine.” “Were together Simone, he is my first love and you’re just trying to hurt me because you’re angry.”
“No, I’m trying to get you to admit the truth Whitney.” “That love played no part in your getting Chad.” “Only lust filled your heart!”

“How. .how did you get to be become so cold-hearted, Simone?” Whitney asked insulted.
“I learned from you.” Simone said slighted giving her an icy stare.
“Well, I would have never treated you this way.” “Never.” Whitney replied.
“You give yourself too much credit Whitney.” “You already damned me, you already did.” “You’re the one who’s heartless and cold!” “You’re the unforgivable one.” “Besides being a liar, you’re also a two-faced slut!” Simone said with her eyes full of emotion.

“Simone, stop it!” “You will not talk to your sister that way!” “You hear me?” Eve said.

“You’re unbelievable, you know that!” “I’m sorry, Mom but this was a mistake.” “A big mistake, because there’s no getting through to her not when she’s like this.” Whitney states raising up her hands and standing to her feet.
“Like what?” Simone asks confrontational.
“Not listening to reason!” Whitney yells back.
“Oh, yes your kind of reasoning.” “Um, let me guess you’re going to say sorry about a million times but none of your words are going to have any merit!” “Sound familiar, Whitney?” Simone replies.
“Simone, I’ve tried to talk to you.” “But you won’t try to listen to me!” “So, what would you like me to say?” Whitney asks upset as Eve motioned for her to seat back down.
“Nothing, because your damaging actions speak louder than your words ever could.” Simone replied.

“Okay, okay now we’ve established that you’re both hurting.” “Let’s move on!” Eve says starting to keep some peace.

“Look, Whitney tell the truth for once!” “If I’m so easy to talk to then, why did you lie to me over and over?”
“Simone, I told you already it wasn’t my intention to hurt you.” “You’ve got to know that, mine or Chad we thought we were protecting you.” Whitney whines back in her seat.
“Well, you didn’t.” “You’re my sister, and you should have been that one to come to me, with the truth.” “But you didn’t because you claimed you were trying to protect me.” “Whitney, you were only trying to protect yourself!” Simone says.
“That’s not true, look if only you could try and see things as they are and just even once move past this.” Whitney states.
“Oh, I have tried.” “I’ve tried to get over this about million times to get over you but my heart won’t let me.” “And yet, when I do there’s still no acknowledgement for me or my feelings like I’m just doomed to be poor, old, lonely, forgetful Simone for the rest of my life.” “Well, I’m sick of it!” Simone yells.
“Simone, I didn’t know you felt like that.” “So, inferior to me, I never knew.” Whitney states.
“Well, I do sometimes.” Simone admits. “Not all the time, but yet I’m still seen as your shadow aren’t I?” She said resentfully.
“No, no you’re not.” Whitney told her, shaking her head.
“Simone, your Father and I loved you both equally.” Eve chimed in.
“Yeah, Mom’s right.” Whitney agreed nodding her head.

“Yeah, right.” Simone said tearfully. “You know, over the summer I’ve had time to think about everything.” “And that’s when I finally realized that there was always something out there that meant more to you than me.” “First it was tennis, or Theresa and her problems and when you got bored with that it was Chad!” “You may try and deny it but you wanted him more than you loved me.”
“What?” “Simone, no for the last time, that’s not true.” “I’ve never felt like that!” “Not even once.” Whitney yells.
“Whitney, stop yelling at her sister please.” Eve remarks.
“Well, not from the way I see it.” “You haven’t redeemed yourself, Whitney.” “To make me believe in you again, but you know what it’s okay because right now as far as I’m concerned our relationship is over anyway.” “Finished and done!”
“Don’t say that Simone, please.” “Just forgive me already, okay.” Whitney begs.
“No, I won’t!”
“Simone, enough.” Eve told her.
“Come on, Simone.” “Look, just listen to me alright!” Whitney shouts.

Eve stares at the both of them yelling and shouting at one another. “Girls, stop it please!” she pleads.

“Listen to Mom, Simone and just hear me out okay.” “You know, you want to forgive me.”
“I can see it, Simone.” “It’s in your face, your eyes, you miss me.” “And you’re just too scare to admit it.” “Look, stop playing tough and forgive me already.” “Please.” Whitney continued to plead with tears in her eyes.
“No and for goodness sakes, Whitney are we even related.” “Grow a spine, for once!” Simone states.
“Simone, stop it!” Eve snaps.
“I’m sorry, Mom but it’s true.” “She never stands up for herself until it’s to stab me in the back!”
“Simone, I said stop it!” “Now, we came here to resolve things with your sister not continue on with this feud.” “You’re supposed to be talking to your sister, not talking down to her.” Eve tells her.

“Well, were talking Mom.” “Yeah, were having a nice sisterly chat about how’s she’s a liar and a no good backstabber!” Simone replied.
“Look, Simone. .” Whitney starts.
“No, you look!” “At this moment in my life right now, I have no need for you.” “So, let’s just end this act like you actually care about me.” “Because in the end your lies caught up with you and that’s all your fault.” Simone states angrily pointing.

“What?” “Simone, that’s it.” “I’m tired of you always trying to blame me for everything!” “If you couldn’t see that Chad didn’t love you, than what does that say about you huh?” “That you just want to believe what you want.” “And everything else, is just everybody else’s fault!” Whitney says.
“No, Whitney its not.” “Just this, I maybe was dumb in thinking that Chad cared about me but, what about you.” “Was it stupid of me, to trust in you, believe in you and think, hey my sister loves me and wouldn’t lie to me.” “Was that my fault, Whitney?” “Was I being dumb, then too?” Simone asked her.
“No, but. .” Whitney hesitates.
“But, nothing.” “I’m not blaming everyone else for my problems just you and Chad.” “First, for not being honest and second for not showing me enough respect and decency to tell the truth.” “That’s what I can’t get over, is your disloyalty to me.” Simone confesses.

Eve grew silent seeing the pain on both of their eyes, realizing just how deep their suffering went.

“Well, what do you want me to say Simone?” “What, do you want me to do huh?” “What, Simone cut of my left arm?” “To prove how sorry I am!” Whitney states extremely agitated.
“That would be a start.” Simone responds. “But no, you can start by going to the farest part of hell and rotting first!” “When you come back, then maybe we’ll talk.” “Till then I don’t want to be bothered with you.” “I deserve better.” She said bitterly.

But, . .I.” Whitney states speechless.

“I’m tired of this, I’m out of here!” Simone states standing up, reaching for her coat and purse as she proceeds towards the front door.

“SIMONE!” Eve yells before she can leave. “You stay right there, young lady!”

“I’m sorry, Mom but no.” “I’m leaving, I can’t stand to be in here with her another second.”

“No, you listen to me.” “Turn around, Simone.” Eve demands.

Simone turns, now facing her mother and sister. Eve moved closer to her, reaching out to cup her face in her hands. She looked deep into her daughter’s eyes only to see they were filled with deep sadness that she was trying to hold back.

“Look, look at your sister right now.” Eve says pointing to Whitney.

“Do, you see how much pain she’s in, how much your words affect her?” “She wanted to resolve this, Simone.” “But I can see now that the fault of your unstable relationship lays not only with Whitney but you.” “Simone, you haven’t given her sister a chance to make amends and if you don’t wise up soon sweetheart.” “You will be the real one, who ends up hurt.” “So, you take a long look at your sister now and see the pain that you refuse to let go.” Eve told her.

Simone just stared at Whitney.

“You have choice, Simone.” “Continue to let your sister’s actions eat up inside or forgive her and go on to lead a better life.” “Because otherwise, sweetheart you’re just going to continue to be oppressed.” Eve warned.

“Now, what do you have to say to your sister?”

Simone glances at Whitney who was really broken up at the moment, crying profusely.

Well, Simone said weakly.” “Maybe, now she’ll feel my pain.”

She then turns towards the door again; walking out she shut it behind her. Outside, a gust of wind blew pass her shoulder as she left. She didn’t notice, she was too busy wiping heavy tears from the corners of her eyes as she wrapped her coat around her body. She hated the feeling that now overcame her, a feeling of hurt, anguish, and deep sadness. She walks off into the distance covering her mouth while tears poured down the sides of her cheeks. The pain she felt now was deep rooted, an emotional embedded pain that seemed to spread through her family at the moment.

Eve watched her leave, as she consoled Whitney in her arms.

“My little girls, what now!” she thought.
