Simone's New Start ~Chapter 18 ~That Russell Fighting Spirit~
by Mademoiselle Butterfly

We begin our morning, in Harmony when the weather’s perfect. It’s a bright sunny slightly overcast day, with a cool breeze blowing around the town. We start our day over at the Russell Household where we find the beautiful Eve Russell entering her kitchen on this early morning. She appeared draped in a soft, long, satiny black nightgown and matching satin robe. She walks into the kitchen only to find her husband TC sitting at the table reading the morning paper while enjoying his first cup of morning coffee. He sat in his chair engrossed in the latest world news, overlooking the recent national stock trade exchanges and the recent sports game scores from around the region.

“Oh, good morning, honey.” Eve said seeing him, as she leans over to kiss him on the cheek.

TC looks up, “Oh, morning Eve.” He responds with a big smile.

“How was your sleep?” he asks nonchalantly.

“Quite good.” “I t must have been all the rain we had last night.” Eve replies.

“Hmm, most likely.” TC said.

“Well, you’re sure up early this morning.” Eve says walking over towards the freshly brewed pot of coffee.

“I know.” “I couldn’t sleep.” TC says folding up ceases of paper in his hands.

“Oh, why not?” Eve asks pouring.

“I don’t know, I guess I was just too excited about today.” TC admits with a childlike grin.

“Here.” Eve responds pouring more coffee into his mug.

“Thank you.”

“You’re really looking forward to today aren’t you, TC?” Eve says sitting down at the table with him after she pouring both cream and sweeter into her coffee mug.

“Yes, honey I am.” “I’m so happy were doing this today.” “I have this feeling like it’s really going to help our family reconnect.” TC states.

“You do?”

“Of, course.” “We’ve been missing these days and events like this Eve.” “Just with the family all together, like we use to be.”

“Hmm.” Eve said sipping her coffee.

“Honey, we may not want to admit it but Simone’s leaving has had an affect on us here.” “And now maybe things will get better.” He says.

“Well, I hope so TC.” Eve replies with a deep sigh. “I really do, I just don’t want another outlandish event like when I intervened with the girls.”

“Eve, honey don’t worry okay.” TC replied reaching out to touch her hand. “The girls know that you were only trying to help them, not hurt them.” He assures.

“I know.” Eve said quietly looking into the bottom of her cup.

“Well, honey look we better get ready.” “The game will be starting soon.” “Yes, Eve its going to be a great day!” “The sky is blue, the birds are singing.” “It’s going to be something else.” TC said leaving the kitchen whistling to himself a little tune of ‘Oh, what a beautiful morning’.

Eve smiled to herself, she was happy that TC was feeling hopeful about today.

Soon TC and Eve get dressed and then head off to the Harmony University campus in search of their daughters. Both were already on the campus, Whitney was spending time over by the tennis courts practicing for an upcoming game and Simone of course was residing in the dorms of Keri Hall. It was officially Parents’ visiting Day and Homecoming Weekend. After arriving together the pair splits up in search of their girls, TC on his way to find Whitney and Eve, when in search of Simone both parents unaware of what or who they might encounter. Just being around the campus you could feel the excitement for the first game of the season, others could hardly wait for the festivities to begin. There were balloons, and streams all over the place, with big signs and banners in the school’s colors. You could even smell the school spirit and pride within the air, today was a big day.

First we follow TC dressed in his casual attire looking for his precious oldest daughter, his princess Whitney. At the moment, she could be found smacking a bright, yellow tennis ball across the tennis court at high speed.

“Yes!” she cried. “Game, set and match.” “I win.”

“No fair.” Someone responded.

“Sorry, but you lost.”

“But that’s not right.” “I was blinded by my opponent’s beauty.” The other protested.

Whitney blushed, “Fox, you’re such a kidder.” She says with a smile.

“Well it’s true, not only do you have a ton of game Miss Russell, but you’re also too beautiful for words.” Fox Crane replied coming from the other side of the tennis court.

Whitney gushed again at the handsome Crane’s comments, as she slowly walked over towards the stands reaching out, she grabbed her towel and began wiping down her sweaty arms and hands.

“You know, that was a pretty good game though.” She tells him. “No one’s ever really been able to stay in a game with me that long.” She says a little out of breath.

“I’ll say, I almost had you in the end.” Fox said nearby taking a sip from his water bottle.

“What, no you did not.” “I always bring my A game to the courts.” Whitney exclaimed with a laugh.

“That’s for sure, you almost took off my head in that last set.” Fox replied.

“But, I’ll admit you did do pretty good.” Whitney says now sitting on the sidelines.

“Whew, but you won.” Fox replies reaching for his towel.

“Yeah, I did.” “Didn’t I?” Whitney said with a bright smile.

“Well, that’s something I haven’t seen for a while.” Fox says suddenly.

“What’s that?” Whitney asked sipping her water.

“You with a smile on your face.” “It’s rarely been seen lately.”

“Oh, well I’ve been busy.” “I always get a little stressed when I have a big tournament coming up.”
Whitney explained wiping her forehead.

“No, that’s not it Whitney.” “I mean, I’ve seen you on the courts.” “Hell, I’ve even been brave enough to play you.”

“Your game is perfect, but you’ve just seemed kind of down lately.” Fox notices.

“Look, Fox like I said it’s just been stress that’s all.” “There’s nothing to worry about.” Whitney shrugs off.

“Really?” “Or is there something else that’s been bothering you?” Fox questions.

“Fox, look stop it okay.” “I’m fine, its just with this game coming up I haven’t had the time for other things right now, that’s all.” She says a bit melancholy.

“Other things, like what?” Fox asked.

Whitney eyed him. “Nothing, Fox.” “Nothing at all.”

“Come on, Whitney tell me what’s been bothering you?” “Were friends, right.” Fox pleads.

Whitney takes a deep breathe, “Yes, but Fox its nothing seriously.” “Look, I really don’t want to get into this right now.” she said cleaning off her racket in distraction.

She soon gets up and starts collecting random tennis balls from around the gated court.

Fox then stands to his feet as well, watching her quietly. For a moment, she turns and looks at him with a slight sadness mirrored on her face. This Fox takes notice to not wanting him to worry Whitney tries to put on a small smile.

“Well, I guess this ends another great session.” She states.

“Uh, huh.” Fox said nodding.

“Well, I better get going.” Whitney said with a heavy sigh after putting her racket away into her carrying bag as she then she proceeds to walk away.

“Whitney, wait.” Fox says reaching out to take a hold onto her arm before she turned away.

“Huh?” Whitney says glancing at him.

“Whitney, come on.” “Tell me, what’s wrong?” Fox pleads facing her. “What’s got you down?”

“Tell me, huh why is this pretty little face of yours so blue lately?” He asks reaching out to cup her chin in his palm.

“Fox.” Whitney says in a soft tone. “I told you, nothing.”

“And I don’t believe that.”

Whitney looks downward, away from his eyes for a second after hearing his words. When she returned his glanced, her eyes were met up with his deep hazel-eyed stare, and kind face looking back at her.

They stood in silence, for a bit. “Whitney.” Fox said with a gentle smile.

Whitney took a deep breath and glanced up at the bright sky for a moment before responding. “Okay, fine.” “If you’re going to beg Fox.” “I’ll tell you what’s wrong.” She said quietly.

“Okay.” Fox replied with a nod.

“I just, it just seems like nothing’s going right these days.” Whitney admitted with a heavy sigh.

“What do you mean?” he asked. “You’re game’s perfect.”

“No, Fox I meant personally things haven’t been going well.” “I mean, Chad’s still in LA pursing his music career.”

“Which I think is great, of course.” “But I can’t help, but miss him a lot.” “And don’t get me wrong you’re great company, but I...”

“You love Chad.” Fox says lowly.

“Yeah and lately his phone calls seem farer and farer in between.” “And it’s been months since I’ve seen him.” “I just miss him that’s all.” “Theresa calls me lovesick.” She expresses with a slight laugh.

“Hmm.” Fox replied listening.

“But, uh besides that there’s this thing with my sister.” “Ever since our last talk, I guess you could say.” “One that ended really badly.” Whitney said thinking about the last confrontation with Simone.
“Lately if I see her at school, around campus or even at the Book café.” “She won’t even look at me, Fox.” “Can you believe that?” ”My own little sister doesn’t even want to look in my direction anymore, she hates me so much.”

“But, I miss her and she wants nothing to do with me.” Whitney whines with a whimper. “That hurts, you know.”

“She’s blinded herself into thinking that I’m some kind of monster.” “She calls me selfish and says that she can’t ever trust me again.” “And I don’t know what to do, I don’t know how to get though to her anymore.” “So, I guess with all of that I’m just kind of sad.” “So, I’ve been trying to focus on what I can control, you know.” “And that’s tennis, I can control that.” “I don’t have to miss that or…” “Listen to me ramble on, you must think I’m nuts or something, right?” She said looking up at him.

A quiet Fox, just stood there listening to her spill out her hidden emotions. “Um, no.”

“No, I don’t think you’re nuts, Whitney?” He tells.

“Really.” She replies brushing away some of her loose curls from her face.

“Yeah, you know just the opposite actually.” “I think you worry too much maybe.” “Look, Whitney Chad’s being in LA you can’t help.” “He’s been gone for months now, you can’t help that.” “But maybe I can help you relieve some stress with your Simone situation.” Fox says.

“How?”

“I. .don’t know.” “Uh, maybe I could talk to her for you.” Fox offers.

“You would do that for me?” Whitney asked surprised.

“Of course, I would do anything for you.” Fox quickly replies.

“Well, that’s really sweet and thoughtful of you.” “But no I can’t have you fixing my problems for me Fox.” “You’re a good enough friend, for everything else to do.” “Like with just letting me practice with you and sneaking me on the Crane courts to train when the country club’s closed.” “That’s enough.” She says.

“Well what, are friends for anyway.” “And don’t worry about the repaying me for the sessions.” “We hardly ever use the Crane courts anymore.” He said.

“I know, but it was thoughtful of you.” “Especially considering the risks you are taking, with my father’s despising feelings towards your family.”

“Well, that seems to be everyone’s feelings towards us.” Fox says.

“No, but that’s admirable Fox.” “And I greatly appreciate it.” Whitney told him.

“Hmm.” “But, look Whit just let me talk to Simone once okay.” “I’ll help her realize how much she’s missing not having you around anymore.”

“No.” Whitney says shaking her head. “I have to fix this thing with Simone myself.” “But thank you, very much for the offer.” “You know its funny, despite all the crazy rumors about you.” “You’re so different from the other Cranes.”

“So, you listen to rumors about me huh?” Fox asks.

Whitney laughs, “No, well maybe a little.” “But, Fox really.” “You’re human, you actually have a heart and use it.”

“That’s honorable.” Whitney said softly.

“Well, don’t let my Grandfather hear you say that or, I might get cut out of the will.” Fox replies.

Whitney smiles, “No, but its true.” “You really, are a sweetheart.” “And just think everyone else told me you were such a playboy.” “But, you’re more than that, you’re kind and decent Fox.” She continues.

“Well, those are definitely two words I never heard spoken about me.” “Decent and kind.”

Whitney laughs, “Well its true.” “I mean, take today for example like with your offer to help me with training.” “I mean that’s something that I could never get Chad to do.” “But with you it’s not like that, you’re a great friend.” Whitney says.

Fox starts to gush at her kind comments.

“Thank you.” Whitney says reaching out to give him a small kiss on the cheek.

Just then of course, TC walks in to see them. He was stunned to see his little girl interacting with a Crane, and Julian Crane’s son of all people. His one enemy most in the world, TC hated him with a passion thinking he had destroyed his life, ruining his chances of a rising tennis career in his youth and causing the broken-hearted death of his father Reginald. Seeing Fox and his daughter together this way made TC’s eyes glare with rage. While his blood pressure started raised, with each step as he marched over towards them preparing to do damage.

“What the hell is going on?” he questioned.

“Oh, Daddy!” Whitney said startled turning around.

“Mr. Russell?” Fox said seeing him.

“Whitney, what the hell are you doing with this scumbag Crane?” “And why, for God’s sake are you here kissing him?” “Damn it, I want some answers!” TC yelled enraged.

“Daddy, its not what it seems okay.” “Please, calm down.” “Fox was just here to...” Whitney hesitated.

“What?” TC quickly asked upset.

Whitney stared at him, seeing the hatred in his eyes. She had only seen this look on her father’s face when one name was said or mentioned and that was, Julian Crane.

“You damn Crane, you stay away from my daughter!” “You hear me, you and your conniving Father!” “Stay the hell away from her!” TC shouted just before leaping over towards Fox.

Thus making Whitney too frightened to answer his questions. “Daddy, please.” “Stop, don’t hurt him.” “Stop, Please!” “Stop it, Daddy!” she yelled.

But before you knew it, TC had Fox in his grasps cornering him over by the bleachers with his bare hands.

“Well, Whitney I want answers.” TC demanded with his hands around Fox’s poor neck.

Whitney, tell him.” Fox mumbled out losing air.

“Daddy, please leave him alone.” “Please.” “Just let him go and I’ll tell you everything.” Whitney begged.

“Okay.” “Fine.” TC said letting loose of his death con grip on Fox.

Fox takes a long deep breath, “Thank you.” He said rubbing his neck.

Whitney goes and stands between the two men. “Fox, are you alright?” she asked worried.

“I’m. .I’m fine.” Fox told her.

“Alright, Daddy that was so uncalled for!” she scolded facing TC.

“Excuse me.” TC replied in an irritated tone.

“Look, Daddy Fox is my friend.” “And we were practicing for my tournament, that’s all it was.”

“Friend?” TC said mystified. “Whitney, we are not friends with the Cranes.” “Any of them, you hear me!” he told her outraged.

“But Daddy, Fox is different.” “He’s not like Alistair or Julian.” Whitney told him.

“I don’t care.”
“He can be purple and green for all I care.” “He’s still going to share that same Crane
blood, Whitney!” TC explained.

“Daddy.” Whitney scolds.

“Look, Coach Russell.” Fox tries to say.

“Not one word, from you Crane.” TC warned eyeing him.

“But. .sir with all respect I’m not my father or grandfather.” “I would never harm Whitney.” “Never.” Fox says.

“Oh, I know you wouldn’t, because if you ever did than you’d be dead!” TC told him.

“Daddy, come on.” “We were just practicing.” “There’s no need to threaten, Fox.” Whitney said.

“Well, that’s not what I saw walking in.” TC said in an aggravated tone.

“Daddy, Fox wasn’t putting the moves on me if that’s what you’re thinking.” “He would never do that, right?” she said turning towards Fox.

“Um, no never.” Fox replied.

“See, Daddy I trust Fox and anyway I’m with Chad.” Whitney continued. “So, I wish you would stop getting all of these crazy ideas.”

“Please, another loser.” TC huffed. “Look, Princess he’s a Crane he’ll say anything.” “He’s a snake, a lowlife, scum Whitney!” “Just like his father and his whole damn family!”

“Ouch, that hurt Coach Russell.” Fox said.

“Shut up.” TC told him.

“Daddy, please.” Whitney scolds again.

“No, Whitney, damn it I don’t believe this?” “You’re supposed to be practicing here alone.” “Your game is in two days.”

“I was.” Whitney said in small voice. “Fox was helping, me out.”

“Well, we don’t take any handouts from the Cranes!” “Especially, Julian’s son.” TC told her ticked off.
“I know.” Whitney replied.

“So, explain yourself!” TC shouted.

“See, Daddy...” Whitney starts.

Just then her cell phone starts to ring. “Excuse me.” She said nervously going over to pick it up.

It was Chad, calling to share some great news about his record deal. “Oh, Chad.” “Baby.” “Uh, hi.” Whitney said glancing at her father and Fox.

“Oh, brother.” TC said rolling his eyes and folding up his arms.

Fox just watched Whitney’s expressions change hearing Chad’s voice he could see her love for him written all over her face. It made his heart sank, because in truth Fox Crane, Mr. Playboy himself found himself having genuine feelings for Whitney. He wanted her to love him, to feel what he was feeling which was total admiration and respect for her. He found himself feeling emotions he’d never felt before it was all very new for him to be feeling actual feelings for someone, anyone really...

Now, we turn our attention to the lovely and posed Dr. Eve Russell in her search for Simone. We follow her through the Keri Hall visitor’s entrance, up to the elevator as she found her way to her daughter’s floor. She couldn’t wait to see her little baby girl, she really had missed her especially their closeness. Eve prided herself on her good relationship with her girls, always being very open, and honest with one another was her motto. Yes, her girls always told her the truth so there would definitely be no surprises along the way. That was more than Eve had with her own parents, they were always too concerned with their own personal images to be concerned with her. But that wasn’t the case with her girls, they’re always truthful with her and that’s how Eve wanted it to be.

Coming up to Simone’s room, Eve lightly taps on her door, after a few minutes of waiting. She knocks again, but she only heard silence. “Simone, sweetheart...” she calls out. “Honey, its me.” “Mom.”

Soon she quietly opens the door seeing that it was unlocked and walked in figuring Simone and Kay were probably just fast asleep since it was still very early. “Simone.” “Baby, its me.” she said again entering the room. Soon, Eve was hit with an unsettling surprise Simone had some apparent company with her this morning. What Eve found she couldn’t believe her eyes; she thought her mind was playing tricks on her. That possibly she hadn’t seen things clearly, but her eyes didn’t lie. So she stood there in the doorway with her mouth gasped open, utterly completely flabbergasted, stunned and troubled.

Before her was her little girl, her precious baby Simone alone in her dorm room, with a boy, a complete stranger Eve had never seen or met before, it was like her worst nightmare coming true right before her very eyes. Eve cringed at the sight, covering her eyes while her mind began swirling with thoughts that her daughter would grow up to be like her in youth a once good, and decent individual only to be corrupted and turn into something unrespectable and ugly compromising themselves to the highest degree. Eve took a deep breath and tried to get a handle on things for a moment after shutting the door close.

She then looked up again now noticing that candles were all around the room, and portable heaters. Cautiously and quietly Eve walked over towards Simone’s bed on the other side of the room. There slept Simone with Gabriel lying next to her sprawl out in a deep slumber. The two had spent the rest of the stormy night talking until they fell asleep. Gabe’s arms hovered over Simone as they shared a small blanket. They slept soundly; nestled in one another’s arms the night’s rain had calmed them.

Standing there, Eve became enraged and wanted answers. “Simone!” “Oh, my God.” “Simone, wh-what in the world is going on here?” She questioned dismayed.

Simone didn’t awaken soon Eve began to shake her about, yelling her name over and over again.

“Simone!” she called out finally stirring her daughter to open her eyes from a groggy state.

Simone lay murmuring to herself as she woke. “Hmm.” She said blinking.

She stared up at her mother, and then froze seeing her hover over her bed. “M-Mom?” she said surprised jumping forward.

She suddenly felt her heart start to leap in rapid motion; she quickly turned to Gabe shaking him awake.

“Gabe.” “Gabe!” “Wake up!” she cried panicky.

“W-What?” he said sleepily rubbing his eyes very soon, he also caught wind of Eve’s resentful stare and forced himself awoke.

“Its my, my Mother.” Simone said in an unnerved voice turning to face Eve.

“Simone, what is going on?” Eve asked sternly. “Who is this boy?” “And why on earth is he in your room?”

Simone grew speechless; there was huge lump that had formed in her throat. “I- um, this is Gabe, Mom.” She managed to say extremely nervous at the moment. As Eve glanced from her to Gabe, a young man whom she had never met or seen a day in her life. With his long legs reaching out towards her daughter’s bed, he appeared before her with wild, curly hair and deep expressive eyes.

Silence now filled the room, as Simone quickly stood up of course, still fully dressed in her rosy, pink sweats from the night before while Gabe followed her lead and quickly jumped off the bed.

“We must have just fallen asleep.” Simone told him.

“Uh, yeah.” He whispered standing in only a pair of jeans.

“Who is this boy?” Eve asked again.

“Um, hi Ma’am.” “I’m Gabe Carrington.” He nervously said extending his hand as his face changed color to a beet red after reaching quickly to put on his missing t-shirt.

Eve just glared at him, harshly folding up her arms.

“Mom, what are you doing here?” Simone asked embarrassed.

Eve turned to her, “It’s Parents’ day, remember.” She answered in a quiet tone.

“Parents’ day?” “Oh, I forgot.” Simone replies.

“Obliviously, you did.” Eve said taking a deep breath.

As Gabe and Simone glanced at one another feeling guilty and ashamed for doing nothing wrong.

“Simone, what is this young man doing in your room overnight?” Eve asked pacing back and forth.

“We were studying, Ma’am.” Gabe bravely answered.

“Really?” Eve questioned staring at her daughter.

“Yes, that’s right.” Gabe chimed in.

“I asked Simone.” Eve replied raising her voice.

“It, its true Mom.” “Gabe and I were just studying.” “We have classes together.” Simone responded.

“Hmm.” Eve said turning.

“Yes, and we kind of got caught up.” Gabe said with a shrug.

“Caught up?” Eve asked outraged. “Oh, my God!” “I don’t believe this?” she exclaims.

“Mom, are you okay?” Simone questioned getting worried.

“No, Simone.” “I’m not, out of everything I’ve taught you.” “I never would have thought you would do something like this.” “It’s unbelievable!” Eve begins to shout becoming extremely upset.

“Mom, please don’t get upset.” “We were just studying that’s it, really.”

“Even still Simone Russell, I am so ashamed of you right now!” Eve shouts.

“What?” “Why?” Simone asked innocently.

“Because you were raised better than this, young lady.” “Much better, your father and I sent you to school to learn and grow.” Eve starts to rant. “To become more mature as a person, not having boys in your room alone at night!”

“But...” Simone starts to whimper.

“How could you do this?” Eve asked outraged.

“Mom, we weren’t doing anything wrong.” Simone whined. “The-there was a storm last night and Gabe and I were studying and the power went off.” “And so Kay was gone and Gabe was already here and his clothes were soaked so I invited him to stay over night, that’s all that happened.” She explained in an almost forced voice.

“It’s true Mrs. Russell.” Gabe told her.

“Dr. Russell.” Eve corrected him.

Gabe cleared in throat, “Sorry, um Dr. Russell.” He said.

“Well, if that’s what you say, than this is just a very compromising position.”

“Yes.” Simone said softly.

Eve thought about it rationally, but then fear began to seep in if she let Simone get away with this than, what’s next.

“No, Simone you’re studying is besides the point here.” “You’re never to be in your room alone with a boy at night, ever!” “You hear me, and I’m sorry um...” Eve says shaking her head.

“Gabriel.” Gabe told her.

“Yes, Gabriel but I do not know you and I do not appreciate you here alone with my child.”

“Yes, Ma’am.” Gabe responded.

“Mom.” “Stop it, I’m not a baby.” Simone scolded.

“Simone, no.” “You are my child!” “Mine, and this kind of interaction is unacceptable.” “Seeing you here like this, is utterly unacceptable young lady.” “Look at the position you’ve put me in.” “Simone, I did not send you to the dorms to be like this!” Eve said continued.

“Like what?” Simone asked confused.

“To carry on in this kind of manner.” “It’s not right, you’re a GOOD girl and damn it you’re going to stay that way if it kills me!” Eve yells upset.

“But, Mom.” Simone said with a whimper never hearing her mother speak to her in that manner before.

“Simone.” Gabe whispered looking at her, to not to say anything else.

“No, but Mom.” “I am a good girl Mom, why would you think I wasn’t?” she asked bewildered.

“Simone, stop it.” “Stop being so naïve.” “I do not want to hear it!” Eve told her putting up her hands.

“Mom we were just studying honestly, we were.” “Gabe and I have history class together.” Simone protested.

“Simone, you’re being here alone in bed together does not look good.” Eve said in a fume. “You’re too young to understand, what I’m feeling but this kind of interaction is not the way I raised you to be and you know it.”

Simone stared at her mother, not knowing what to think. Soon, she felt guilty just for being in the room with Gabe.

It was a black and white issue and she was apparently using wrong judgment.

“You’re right Mom.” “I was wrong.” Simone admitted in a low voice looking at the floor.

“Um, Dr. Russell I’m sorry.” “We, I didn’t mean to get Simone in trouble.” “We were just hanging out and studying that’s all.” Gabe said coming to their defense. “And I should have known when to leave.” “I apologize.” He said sincerely.

“Even so right now Gabriel, I think its time you left.” Eve said going over towards to door.

“Yes, Ma’am.” Gabe replied with his head lowered, grabbing his sweater and jacket.

“Mom, wait.” “Gabe still needs to get his things.” Simone said still in awe at her mother’s words.

Eve opened the door stood and waited the look on her face even said that she was extremely aggravated at the moment.

“Oh, I just need to get my shoes.” Gabe said realizing he wasn’t wearing anything on his feet.

That’s when Eve heard TC’s voice calling out for her. “Eve.” “Eve, honey.”

“Oh, no its TC.” She said turning closing the door.

“What?” “Mom, Daddy cannot see Gabe here!” Simone said in a panic.

“Or find him.” “I know.” Eve said.

“Where can I hide?” Gabe asked quickly.

Simone looked around, “Um, the bathroom!” she yelled jittery. “Quick!”

Quickly sneaking Gabe in the bathroom, still holding onto his belongings including his coat, and sweater. Simone quietly gave Eve a nod signaling for her to open the door. As they did, right there TC stood up close and personal with them.

“Hey, there you are.” He said seeing Eve.

“Hi, honey.” Eve replied greeting him.

“So, you found Simone.” TC said with a smile entering the room.

“Yes, I did.” Eve responds.

“Hey there, Sugar Bear!” TC says seeing Simone.

“Oh hi, Daddy.” Simone replies reaching out to embrace him.

“So, are you ready for Parents’ Day?” TC asks her whispering in her ear.

“Not quite.” Simone said uncomfortably looking towards Eve.

“Oh, well I can see why?” TC says as he stands next to one Gabe’s missing shoes almost stepping on them.

“You can.” Simone says watching him in horror.

“TC, honey it’s not what you think.” Eve quickly exclaims.

“Oh, really Eve because I can clearly see what’s going on here.” TC said sternly.

“Daddy, please.” “I...” Simone mumbles to say.

“What, Eve honey our little Sugar Bear got caught having...”

“TC, wait.” Eve yells.

“A late night study session.” TC said glancing at Eve strangely.

“Honey, what’s wrong?” he asks. “I mean, what did you think that I was going to say.”

“What, nothing.” “I just wanted to ask you something.” “Uh, honey where’s Whitney?” “I thought you went to go see her.” Eve said nervously.

TC groans irritated, “I did.” “She’s joining us later.”

“Oh, okay.” “And honey, you’re so right.” “Simone was just caught having a late night study session.” Eve says glaring in Simone’s direction.

“Yes, yes I was.” “Sorry, about the mess.” Simone apologized in a small voice.

“Oh Sugar Bear, there’s no need to be sorry you were just studying.” “I mean, that’s explains why this place is in such an disarray, right.” TC said glancing around.

Simone nodded obediently.

“You were pulling an all niter weren’t you?” “And me and your Mom just announced ourselves in here like this.”

“Sweetheart, I apologize we need to give you your privacy.” TC continues turning to Eve moving in the direction of the door.

“But, TC...” Eve starts to say.

“Hey, Simone.” TC said turning around. “What are all these heaters doing out?” “And where did they all come from?” He asked looking around not recognizing them before.

“Um, there Kay’s Daddy.” “She. .she gets very cold at night.” Simone lied.

“Oh, okay.” “So what were you trying to say, honey?” TC says looking at Eve.

Eve glances at Simone looking into her eyes as they pleaded with her not to say anything.

“Um, nothing.” She said quietly.

“Here, Eve.” “Let’s go and let Simone freshen up and we’ll meet you down in the lobby okay.”

“Uh, huh.” Simone replied.

“You’re such a good girl.” TC said proudly reaching over to kiss his daughter on the cheek.

“Yes, Daddy.” Simone replied feeling like scum lying to her father.

Eve let out a deep sigh looking at her daughter calmly she walked over to Simone giving her a quiet embrace and whispered in her ear. “As soon as were gone, get him out of here.” “This instance.”

Simone nodded silently.

Eve watches her cautiously out of the corner of her eye as they left. Soon, Simone shuts the door tight behind them and runs to the bathroom door. She swings the door open, there standing was Gabe with his eyes closed tightly, wincing. “Gabe.” She whispered.

Gabe opened his eyes cautiously and takes a deep breath. “Whoa!” “They’re gone?”

“Uh, huh.”

“Well, that was a close one.” He says overwhelmed.

“You’re telling me.” Simone replied. “I’m just glad that my Mother helped me cover.”

“Yeah, so am I.” Gabe says grabbing his stuff.

“I know.” “I’m shocked though.” “My Mom’s never lied to my Dad before.” Simone said baffled.

“Well, this time I’m glad she did.” Gabe said in a fortunate tone.

“Yeah, I know.” “It’s just strange how she seemed to cover so effortlessly.” Simone notes.

“Well, Simone we were lucky today.” Gabe told her.

“How, so?”

“Well, because if your Dad had caught me, I think that I would have been fish food.” “Literally.” Gabe says worried.

“Oh sorry, this is all a mess.” Simone said softly as Gabe put on his jacket and missing shoes.

“Its not your fault, we just got caught up that’s all.” He replies.

“Yeah.” “Well, I guess I’m going to pay big for this one.” Simone said looking down towards the floor.

“Sorry, about that.” Gabe told her with a frown.

“Well, I was wrong like my Mom said and that’s it I guess.” Simone said powerless.

“Well, look if your Dad as any temper like your Mom.” “I would say you’re toast but otherwise I say last night was just a case of the wrong place, at the wrong time.”

“Yeah, you could look at it that way.” Simone said frowning.

“It’ll be okay.” Gabe assured her lightly touching her shoulder.

“Yeah.”

“Uh, about the heaters should I get them now or...” He hesitates.

“Later.” Simone said nodding.

“Alright, well, um I better go.” Gabe says running his hand through his curly mane.

“Okay.”

“Um, I guess I’ll see you later on then.” He said eyeing her.

“Yeah, sure.” Simone replied as she took a quick glance out the door before opening it.

“Bye.” Gabe says.

“Bye.” She replies shutting the door behind him.

Gabe then quickly made a mad dash to the elevator while Simone scrambled to get dressed before meeting up with her sister and parents for a big family brunch. Thinking quickly, she dressed in a simple outfit of the school’s colors, pairing up a dark burgundy ribbed sweater, slim black jeans and some yellow gold hooped earrings, she then styled her hair up in a pulled back bun off of her face while wearing a simple rosy colored glossy lip gloss on her lips.

The brunch begins, as all four of the Russell family members sat down. They blessed the food and then proceeded to eat. Soon, discussions began with TC talking about the recent Homecoming at the high school and Eve expressing the busyness at the hospital and her new trainees she’s teaching.

Then TC starts the real conversation by turning to Simone asking, “How’s your little job going?”

“It’s okay, tiring though but I like it.” She admits.

TC smiles proudly, “Well hard work builds character.” “Right, Whitney?” he said looking over.

“Um, yes Daddy.” Whitney said nodding.

Soon, Eve asks Whitney about her practice this morning. Whitney glances up at TC, who turns his head taking a huge gulp of his orange juice.

“It was good.” She says softly.

“Sugar Bear,” TC says turning back to Simone. “How are your classes?”

“They’re good Daddy.” Simone replies munching on some fresh fruit.

“And Whitney, what about your studies?” Eve inquires.

“There fine Mom, I think I’m pulling an all A average again.” Whitney said with a nod.

Simone rolls her eyes at Whitney’s comment. “Always Miss Perfect,” she thought to herself.

“Aah, look at this Eve.” TC states with a huge smile, gloating. “Our college girls, our little Sugar Bear and Princess making us proud.” “We couldn’t ask for anything better.” “Could we?”

“No, I don’t think so TC.” Eve said with a smile, looking from one daughter to the other.

While Simone and Whitney just glanced at each other in silence sitting side by side across from their parents.

“Hey, Daddy.” Simone announces. “Did I tell you that I’ve been accepted into the college dance company?” “We’ll be putting on a production soon I hope.” She said happily.

“Really.” TC replies with a grin.

“Dance Company?” Eve repeated. “When did you start this, Simone?”

“Well, I’ve been dancing for a while now Mom.” “Remember this past summer when I signed up for some dance classes, well now I’ve joined the school’s dance company too.” She explained.

“Well, I think its great.” TC said showing support.

“Thanks, Daddy.” Simone said happily.

“Well, I hope it just won’t distract her from her studies TC, that’s more important.” Eve stated arching one eyebrow.

“Oh, Eve don’t worry Simone’s got a good head on her shoulders.” “She’s not going to let this affect her studies, right.” TC said giving Simone a wink.

“No, Daddy.” Simone said shaking her head.

“I hope not.” Eve said sipping her coffee.

“See, she’s just as level headed as Whit, right?” he asked a quiet Whitney.

“Um, yes Daddy.” Whitney expressed with a nod picking at her plate.

“Whitney honey, you’re really quiet, is something on your mind sweetheart?” Eve asks.

Whitney looked up from her plate, “No, Mom I’m fine.” “I’m just thinking about my big game.”

“Oh, well don’t worry you’ll do great sweetie.” Eve assured her reaching out to touch her hand.

“She’d better.” TC remarks.

“TC.” Eve scolded. “Remember, why we’re here.” “For the girls, remember?” She told him.

TC sighs and looks over towards Whitney; she knew what he was thinking seeing her with Fox earlier had really upset him.

“TC, aren’t you going to apologize to your daughter?” Eve asked turning to him.

“You’re right, Eve.” TC said quietly. “I’m sorry, Princess.” “You’ll do great like you always do.” “I shouldn’t overact, you’ll be fine.” “My little champion.” he said proudly.

“Thank you, Daddy.” Whitney replied with a small smile.

“Simone, what are you thinking about majoring in honey?” “You know, you’re going to have to decide soon.” Eve asked eating an omelet.

“Um...” Simone hesitated.

“Hey, Sugar Bear you still want to become a Doctor, right?” TC asked.

“Yeah, I guess.” “I think so.” She replies eating pancakes.

“What, this is news.” Eve says turning to her daughter.

“I’ll say.” Whitney chimed in sipping her juice.

“What?” Simone replies looking at them.

“TC, when did Simone express to you an interest in medicine?” Eve asks.

“Oh, honey I thought you knew about it.” TC said.

“It’s no big deal Mom, I told Dad about it once when I was younger.” Simone replies.

“Oh.” “Well, what kind of medicine do you want to study?” Eve asked her.

“I don’t know.” Simone said with a heavy shrug. “I’m still deciding.” “Actually, I’m kind of thinking about changing my major to dancing instead.” “I’m getting really good at it, you know.”

“But, sweetheart you can’t really make a decent living at dancing.” Eve told her.

“Mom.” “Look, I like it.” “Dancing’s fun for me, it helps me relieve stress.” Simone explained.

“And what do you have to be stressed about?” Eve questioned appalled.

“Things.” Simone said glancing over at Whitney.

“Well, Simone as fun as dancing may be its no a real profession.” “You need something stable and steady in order to make a reasonable living.” Eve continued on.

“Eve, sweetheart I don’t see anything wrong with it.” TC chimes in.

“No, it’s a very risky profession, TC.” “And I don’t like it, I don’t like it at all.” “Its shady, its like singing and it’s not right for Simone.” Eve protested on.

As her daughters’ just watched they’re mother become repulsed at the notion of Simone’s mentioning dancing, as a career. It was like the music issue in their household and Eve detested it especially her daughters’ interest in it.

“Well, honey its like Simone’s outlet right now.” “Back when I was her age, I had tennis.” “You know all young people need some outside activities.” TC remarked.

“Yes, they do.” Eve said with a heavy sigh.

Thinking back to her outside activities of singing in nightclubs around Simone and Whitney’s age.

“See, its nothing to be all worried over okay.” TC continued kissing her. “I mean its obvious Simone’s on the right track here.” “You know, Whitney just this morning we caught your sister pulling an all niter.” “Yes, she was hard at work.” He bragged.

“Um, really.” Whitney said in a small voice looking at her sister.

“Still TC, we sent Simone here to study, that’s all.” “Not dance, or get involved with other things.” Eve responded.

Simone looked down at her plate, feeling guilty for this morning.

“Oh, honey stop worrying we’ve raised our girls right.” “They know that education and accomplishing their goals comes first before anything especially dating and boys, right?” TC remarked eyeing both daughters.

“Yes, Daddy.” Whitney and Simone say in unison.

After the big family brunch, everyone went over to the stands to see the first game of the season begin. There they met up with the Bennett family, Kay included who was beaming with delight seeing her friend. But at the moment, Simone was kept under her family’s watchful eye, especially Eve’s. All four of them, sat side by side on a bench next to the Bennett’s waiting for the game to begin.

“Hey Sammie, so do you think the Falcons are going to score at least twenty touchdowns in the first quarter?” TC asked his best friend.

“Oh, of course they will TC.” “Or, I’m out of twenty bucks.” Sam told him.

“Yup, and as always the loser trims the other’s lawn hedges.” TC said smiling.

He and Sam always made friendly bets during the big Homecoming game of the season.

Soon, the teens moved up higher in the stands away from their parents chatter. Simone looked up, seeing Kay seated by Miguel and others. Kay waved over to her, motioning her to join them. She stood up, going to join her friends when Eve called out to her. “Simone, where are you going?” she asked.

“Um, just to join Kay Mom.” Simone replied.

“Well, I don’t think you should.” Eve said.

“Why?” Simone asked.

“Eve, she’s been with us enough today.” “Let her go and join her friends.” TC told her.

“Fine.” Eve responds.

“Thanks, Daddy.” Simone said with a smile, leaving them.

“Well, Mom, Dad I see Theresa over there.” “I’m going to join her okay.” Whitney said politely.

“All right, Princess.” TC said.

Once alone TC turned to Eve and said, “Honey, I can tell that you’re a little tense today.”

“No, I’m not TC.” Eve protested looking out towards the field.

“Honey, I can see it’s written on her face.” “You’re worried about Simone being here, aren’t you?” he said.

Eve took a deep breath. “You know me well, TC.” She admits.

“I know.” TC says. “Well, honey I’ll admit it I had my doubts too.” “You remember all of the long conversations I had about her staying in the dorms away from us.” “But, being here today I see everything’s fine and I was just worrying for nothing.”

“Oh.”

“Yeah, I can’t believe I actually considered pulling her out of the dorms because of silly fears that she would become out of control or something.” “But that would never happen.” TC laughs.

“TC...” Eve starts wanting to tell him about this morning.

“Well, Eve.” TC continues on. “Now, I realize this is the best environment for Simone.” “She’s maturing here, just like we wanted her to.” “She’s on top of her studies, has a job, she’s really got that Russell fighting spirit.” He says proudly.

Eve’s mind wondered taking in all of TC’s comments for now she decided to keep quiet.

Oh TC, if you only knew the truth.” She thought to herself.

Back to the teens, Simone joined her friends as the game started. She sat overlooking all the day’s events the marching band performing their songs and the pep squad in their individual flashy outfits. Soon, Kay whispered in Simone’s ear, “We need to talk.”

Simone nodded thinking about the story she needed to share as well.

“Hey, sorry about last night.” Kay whispered to her.

“Huh?”

“The storm, Simone.” “I wanted to come home after that lame family dinner but my parents’ wouldn’t let me so, I had to stay overnight.” Kay told her.

“Oh, yeah that.” Simone said nodding.

“So, what happened at the dorms last night?” Kay asked.

Simone shook her head, “It’s a long story.” She replied.

Placing her hand up to her chin she sat overlooking the opening acts she thought to herself, “This is some crazy Parents’ Day”. Just then, she turns and looks up in the next stand, and there sat Gabe up in the next row. He sat snapping pictures of the crowds and the performances below, this was an event that he loved to photograph, filled with lots of energy and excitement in the air. There was a colorful array of gold and burgundy everywhere you looked, they were of course the school’s colors.

Simone smiled at him.

“Hey.” He said noticing her.

“Hi.”

He moved over, sitting next to her.

“So, who do you think will win?” Gabe asked her still snapping away.

“What?”

“The game.” He replied looking at her.

“Oh, Harmony of course.” She replied quickly.

“Huh, well I guess I need to inform my bookie that my money’s on Harmony then.” Gabe said nodding.
Simone laughed. “Yup.” She said looking out towards the field.

The pair got quiet, until Gabe spoke.

“Hey, again about this morning.” He whispered. “I’m really sorry.”

Simone shook her head. “It’s okay.”

“No, its not you’re Mom finding me there really wasn’t cool.” “So, I apologize for the trouble.” He told her changing film in his camera.

“Well, thanks for sticking up for me today.” “You’re a really good friend.” Simone whispered back.

“Hey, so there’s something I wanted to ask you before.” He starts to say.

“What’s that?” Simone asked.

“Uh, the whole, Sugar Bear thing.” “What’s that about?” Gabe asked with a smile.
Simone began to blush turning away in embarrassment with a bashful grin.

“Oh, that.” “Um, its, its sort of my Dad’s nickname for me.” She admits.

“Oh, okay.” “It’s cute.” Gabe told her.

“Thanks.” She replied shyly.

“Hey, you want some popcorn?” Gabe asked. “It’s a peace offering.” He said in a suave manner.

“Sure.” Simone responds with a nod

“Hey, Gabe.” Kay said turning to him. “Can you get me some too with extra butter?” she asked passing him some money.

“Sure, Kay.” He said with a smile, heading down the stands.

“Oh and don’t forget my change.” Kay yells.

He reaches the ground and heads for the popcorn stand. There standing in the long line, he bumps into someone. It was for other than the young, handsome Fox Crane.

“Hey, sorry man.” Gabe says.

“It’s okay.” Fox replies looking up. “Whoa, Gabe!” he said in surprise.

Gabe stares at him. “Fox?!” “Wait, a minute.” “What, are you doing here?”

“Me, you.” Fox says stunned to see him.

They quickly give each other the standard ‘what’s up’ guy pound greeting.

“What, are you doing in Harmony?” Fox asked.

“No, what are you doing here in Harmony?” Gabe questioned. “I live here now.” He tells.

“What?” “Get out of here, you left New York!” Fox says stunned.

“Yeah, my whole family.” Gabe explained still in shock to encounter him.

“Unbelievable?” Fox said.

“Yeah, I know.” Gabe says nodding.

“Hey, I see your still busy snapping great pictures.” Fox noticed seeing his camera around his neck.

“Yeah, I am.” “So, what are you up to?” Gabe asks.

“Well, I...” Fox starts to say.

But soon, the loud speakers start up blaring the ‘We are the Champions’ song. As the game begins and the two can’t really hear each other through the loud song and the crowds. Soon the two guys say bye and that they’ll definitely talk later on making sure to switch cell phone numbers. Fox then goes to join the lovely Whitney Russell and her best friend Theresa and Theresa’s little son, her beloved little Ethan in the stands. He wanted to get close to them, earn their trust as friends so he had volunteered to get the hungry little Ethan some popping corn.

So, then Gabe alone continues with his own mission in search of hot, buttered, with plenty of salt popcorn. Heading back to the stands, he sees his father standing by the sidelines.

“Dad?” “Hey, what are you doing here?” he asked surprised.

“Oh, hi son.” “Actually my meeting ended early so I decided to drop by.” Lane explained.

Gabe smiled, “Well, great then.” “Come on, you can join me.” “Hey you won’t believe who I just saw.” “It’s unreal.”
“Wait, till you hear this?” He states walking up to the stands.

Lane followed behind him.

“Alright, Dad me and my friends are right at the top.” Gabe tells him.

“Hey, you know what Gabe.” Lane said suddenly stopping. “You go ahead, I’m just going to stay here.”

“What?” “Are you sure?” Gabe questioned.

“Yes, you go ahead and join your friends okay.” “I’ll be fine.” “I’m just going to look around, check out the game.”

“Okay.” “Well, I’ll see you later then.” Gabe said.

“Definitely.” Lane replied with a nod.

“Alright.” “See ya, later Dad.”

“See ya.” Lane said.

Waving one more goodbye Gabe headed back up to the stands.

So, Gabe went to go and join the others, seeing his first football game at Harmony University. Everyone was feeling the traditional school spirit of Homecoming. The excitement of seeing cheerleaders do high kicks, back flips and slits in the air all the while twirling a bright array of burgundy and gold pom pomes yelling and chanting, “Go Team, Go!” “Were the Harmony Falcons, and were here to say!” “Go, roll over, play dead, because were here to stay!” “Were the Harmony Falcons and were here to say…”

As Football players ran around each other in the field grunting plays, and slamming into each other in order to catch the ball. The crowds cheered loudly, some dressed in the official school colors while others had a different approach. They showed up with they’re faces painted colorfully in the autumn weather. Others in the crowds sat just munching on candy, hotdogs, popcorn, French fries, sodas and other various game day goodies. It was a great day for a game. The start of new players joining the Harmony town stage, each playing their individuals key parts first, call was on Parents’ Day...
