Chapter ten

Several days later, Eve was walking back through the halls of Harmony Memorial Hospital…again, this time in her doctor’s coat, with files in her hands as she headed towards her office. Two days after she and Julian had lunch with Devin, she called Dr. Teague to let her know that she was ready to return. After being in a coma for three months, a cast for four months and not being able to work for that long, was driving her crazy. Sure she loved her freedom, being able to spend as much time in public with Julian as possible, the kissing and cuddling… yeah it was good, but she was ready to get back to work. Also her brief time with Devin had her thinking about him a lot lately. They were so much alike that it was surreal, and he made her want to find her son even more. All she ever wanted to do was find him, so that she could hold him, and tell him that she loved him so much and didn’t give him away. One day she would have her chance and that’s what she wanted the most.

Upon entering her office, Eve came upon Simone standing next to her desk with her back to the door looking at their family photo. She hadn’t seen or heard from Simone since a few days after she came out of her coma, and for her to be standing in front of her right now, made Eve smile a bit.

“Simone…” Eve said while closing the door behind her. Simone turned around to face Eve with the picture still in her hand after hearing her name.

“This picture use to represent our happy family, now it’s all gone.” she said as she placed the picture back down on Eve’s desk. “I had a brief talk with Whitney a few days ago. Did all of that stuff she told me, really happen to you mom?” Simone asked curiously.

“Yes.” Eve nodded.

“No wonder you lied about your past, I wouldn’t want to talk or let anyone know about it either. Mom, I’m sorry…”

“Don’t be.” Eve said as she walked over to her desk and placed her files down. She then turned towards Simone, and hesitated for a moment before giving her hug. After she hugged Simone for a little while longer, she let her go of her then said, “Honey, I was about to take my lunch break, would you like to join me?”

“Sure mom, we have to catch up on some things.” Simone said softly as they both headed to the hospital cafeteria.

Meanwhile Pierce was standing out in the lobby of the hospital waiting for Eve to come pass. He had heard that she was back to working at the hospital and he hadn’t seen her in a couple of weeks. He needed to see her face and look at her nice body. Yep, he needed to see her right away. He was daydreaming about seeing her again, when a fist came out of nowhere flying towards his face, knocking him down to the ground.

“What the hell?!” he said in a confused voice as he touched the side of his face. Before he could even get up and see who had punched him, he was being kicked in the ribs with so much force that it felt like he was being hit with a sledgehammer.

Julian had come to the hospital to see Eve and maybe get her to have lunch with him when he saw Pierce in lobby. The site of Pierce standing there made Julian’s blood boil as he walked over to the lobby to confront him. He noticed that Pierce was daydreaming and decided to let him say hello to his fist instead.

“You bastard!” Julian said as he punched Pierce in the jaw.

“What the hell?!” Pierce said confusingly.

“You sick (kick) twisted (kick) nasty (kick) ass bastard! How dare you show your face here?! I’m going to make you suffer for every sick and twisted thing you ever did to your sister!” Julian said as he continued to kick the living crap out of Pierce.

People who were in the lobby at the time, looked on in horror as Julian Crane kicked the living sh*t out of this unknown man. Eventually after about five minutes of watching this malicious attack, someone called for security. When they arrived, it literally took four of them to get Julian away from Pierce. Julian was still kicking and shouting (threatening to kill the sick bastard) as they took him away down the hall.

Eve and Simone were heading that way when they spotted some security guards holding a kicking and screaming Julian.

“What’s going on here?!” Eve shouted as she ran over to Julian leaving Simone behind.

“Mr. Crane just attacked some man in the lobby Dr. Russell.” One of the security guards said.

“What?!”

“Mom what’s going on?” Simone said as she ran over to her mom to see what was going on when she saw Julian being held by four security guards.

“Julian what happened?” Eve said in a concerned voice as she reached out and touched his face with her hand then watched him stop struggling with the security guards before looking at her.

“I came…by…to ask…you to lunch…” Julian said while trying to catch his breath. “…when I saw Pierce in the lobby.”

“What?! He was here?!” Simone shouted.

“Can you please let him go? I’ll take full responsibility for him.”

“Are you sure Dr. Russell?”

“Yes.” She said as the security guards let Julian go. Simone watched as Eve held Julian’s face with both of her hands and looked him in the eyes before bring them down to hold one of his hands.

“Mom, we can take a rain check if you want?”

“No, we’re still going to have lunch together alright?” Eve said to Simone then turned back to face Julian and touched his face again. “Could Julian come with us honey?” she asked softly.

“Sure, I want to hear his side of the story too, if you don’t mind Julian?” Simone said as Julian turned his head to look at her.

“No Simone, I wouldn’t mind at all.” And with that said, the three of them headed to the hospital cafeteria.

At Crane Enterprise, Alistair had been sitting at his desk staring at the some files that needed his signature for the past two hours now, but his mind was elsewhere. That phone call he received a few nights ago had been plaguing his mind for days. He wasn’t expecting that person to call him ever, but he did and now he was in trouble. This was the one secret that he had tried to bury, he didn’t want anyone to connect the two of them together, but if Duke had his way then the whole world would know.

Throwing the files down on top of his desk, Alistair got up from behind his desk and walked over the mini bar he had installed in his office recently. Pouring himself a drink, he then walked over to the big picture window that provided him a nice view of Harmony. After taking a long sip of his drink, he continued looking out of the window when a man walked into his office and slammed the door shut.

“What are you doing here Duke?” Alistair said as he turned and faced the man.

“You know why I’m here Pops. The time has come.” Duke said as he walked over to Alistair’s desk and sat on top of it.

“I can’t do that yet, now is not the time.”

“We had a deal! I kept that the boy for twenty-five years and I even raised him as my own. You own me!”

“Like I said before, now is not the time. Maybe in a few years…” but Alistair never got the chance to finish what he was saying as Duke had him up by his collar before he could even blink.

“You golly ing owe me! I did what you and that man told me to do. I took that baby from the hospital, from his mother and I even raised him! I let that boy think that Eve left us for Julian. I told him everything you told me to tell him, to make him hate his mother...but it didn’t work! Like you said, this would be the job that got me what was rightfully mine.” Duke said, as he looked Alistair straight in the eyes.

“Duke…”

“I did what you asked me to do Father…now it’s time for you to pay up! Or else I will tell Julian the truth… that I’m his older brother, that you got one of your black maids pregnant and tried to cover it up. I’ll tell him that you promised me, my birthright if I kidnapped his son, my own nephew! And I’ll tell Eve Russell who that other man was too. I’m giving you until the end of this week to do what you promised or else I’m going to my little brother.” Duke said then threw Alistair in his chair as he walked out of the office.
