Subject: What We Learned From the Book Cafe Scenes (storywise)

I think the past couple of days have been very good at the Book Cafe.

Many characters exceeded my expectations, but that wasn't Liz.

Liz was a hateful, emotional cripple from beginning to end. She got on my last nerve, and I think it's time that she grew up.

She was truly upset that TC said that HE could forgive the woman, because of how much he loved his wife. I had to say that I was worried there for TC. He's stupid, but not unforgiving. I can forgive him for being dumb...but, there was no help for him if he said that the man couldn't forgive the woman.

Liz sounded like a lunatic, raving that SHE wouldn't forgive her sister, and neither should the husband.
Bravo to David for telling Liz that they didn't give a crap what she thought, Eve was asking TC for HIS opinion.

I loved that TC was gentle and sweet with Eve, and that he was understanding. I was about to lose all hope for TC if he said that the man couldn't forgive his wife. But, even with that, I think it's time that the show
answered the question about WHY TC is so obsessed with 'perfection' anyway. What man doesn't think thathat his wife has a past. And, why would he care, if all she's done is prove HER devotion to him over the past 20 years. Doesn't that 20 years mean ANYTHING?

I loved how both David and Julian have backed Eve the past couple of days.

David is sympathetic because he has a past of his own, and understands Eve's dilemma. Being blackmailed himself, he's not really trying to understand why Liz is so upset about all of this. He told her yesterday - it was bad enough that she's trying to blackmail Eve, but she's totally foul trying to steal Eve's husband. When he called Liz a bitter shrew, he had her nailed dead-to-rights.

But, it's been Julian and Eve who have grown by leaps and bounds over the past few days. When Julian decided against leaving and stayed to help Eve, he stunned her. He totally stunned her, and made her think that maybe the man she loved is still there. When Julian stood up and told TC that it wasn't the woman's fault for what happened, that it was the man's fault, and then tried to explain how a man could fall for a woman and be swept up in passion, but that the man has probably grown and realizes the mistakes he made, it was Julian talking to Eve and apologizing. Eve asked him if the man would feel the same way, knowing that the woman's husband would more than likely inflict physical harm on him. Julian said the man would still stand up and defend the woman.

I loved these scenes. Tracey and Ben were so on. You could see the connection between Julian and Eve. Eve was impressed. The walls she had built around her heart to keep Julian out were crumbling. When Eve accepted partial responsibility for what happened between them, thus relieving herself of the 'victim' identity, things shifted between her and Julian. If she thought of herself as Julian's 'victim', then there is no way that they could be together. But, if what happened was a love affair that went wrong between two equals - then there is a way to get past it , forgive, and move on.

Julian reinforced what TC had said about a man loving a woman. He can't stand TC, and wants Eve for himself, but he wants Eve to be happy, and she wants her marriage to TC, so he's going to try and help her keep it. When TC pointed out that Julian didn't forgive Ivy, Julian responded that he didn't love Ivy. David picked up the ball and reiterated that a man who truly loved his wife would forgive her past transgressions.

Liz was like a spoiled child.....she was FURIOUS with Julian and David backing Eve. I mean, why couldn't they see how 'Evil' Eve is? HOW could they possibly support HER?

She asked TC how could the man forgive his wife? Isn't it like he's sleeping with a stranger? How could he know that she hadn't been fooling around on him all this time? Eve was adamant that the woman loved her husband and was faithful to him. TC asked for the name of the woman, and they were about to find out, when Eve's phone rang and she got the call about Ivy. As they all left the Book Cafe Julian asked Eve if she meant what she said about forgiving him. She told him that she couldn't expect TC to forgive her, if she wasn't willing to forgive Julian.

Those scenes meant so much. Evian is totally on a different level these days. They've come full circle from the past, have dealt with it, and now can go forth to the future.

Of course I wanted the truth to come out, but I'm glad certain things were cleared up. Eve got her side of the story out. Remember, she didn't even tell the true depth of her pain - leaving out her son. TC showed that he does love Eve; he's dumb, but he loves her. David was a good friend to Eve, AND David saw the interaction between Julian and Eve. And, Liz? She's a bitter shrew, but she's not stupid. She's beginning to see the bond between Julian and Eve too, which can't be good.

All in all, I enjoyed the Book Cafe scenes.
