Subject: The Crane Men Today: Chameleons

I enjoyed both Julian and Fox today.

We had Julian in 'Crane Mode' at the beginning of the show. He was talking to an investigator that he's picked to try and find his and Eve's son. He's telling the man that he wants any information as soon as he gets it about 'his son'.

Fox asks Julian what he's being investigated for. After all, he's the only son Julian has.

Julian chides him for not knocking, and Fox wants to know why Julian was having him investigated. Julian asks him why he thinks Fox is the subject of the conversation, and Fox tells him that he heard Julian say 'his son', and he's the only one Julian has. Julian says that it's not true; he has little Ethan. Fox says what could he investigate about a baby, and Julian says that he's very involved in his custody fight. Fox doesn't believe it for one minute, and insists that Julian was talking about him. He asks Julian what he's up to, and Julian denies being 'up to' anything.

Julian tells Fox to mind his own business, and that includes staying away from Whitney. Fox wants to know why Julian is so adamant about him staying away from Whitney, and he tells Fox not to question him, but do as he says. Fox says that the only reason he's interested in Whitney is because she's a beautiful woman and has a great voice. He asks Julian what the 'deal' is between him and Eve. What were they doing when Fox found them outside The Blue Note. Julian tells Fox again to forget about that, and Fox asks why. Julian tells Fox that curiousity killed the cat, and in Fox's case, it might cost him his inheritance.

Fox's response?

Fox: Ouch.
Julian: Ouch indeed. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm a very busy man.

I loved this exchange. Ben and Justin are building up a terrific rapport. You can see the chemistry between them as father and son. There was so much 'Crane-ness' between them in these scenes. Loved it.

Once Fox left the Library, he wondered out loud what the connection is between Julian and Eve.

Julian is in the Library, trying to find out information about the hospital the night his and Eve's son was born. Rebecca comes in, and Julian hastily finishes the call. He tries to sweet talk Rebecca, but she wasn't having it. Rebecca tells Julian that she slept alone, and wondered where he was. Julian told her that he got home so late from the Blue Note that he went straight to bed once he got back to the mansion.

Rebecca tells Julian that she wants to know where he was last night and who he was with, because she doesn't believe him playing the innocent.

Julian tells Rebecca that he just went out to get some air. Rebecca wonders how much air did Julian need? Julian insists that there's nothing more to the story, and Rebecca is fine. If Julian is being honest, then they need to be honest about their marriage. She wants to set a date. She tells Julian that it's her turn to be Mrs. Julian Crane and if he tries to ditch her, she's going to bring him down, bring up the Sheridan/Boat/Bermuda incident. Is there no wonder why I absolutely LOATHE the 'Sheridan's Second Death' story? Name ONE positive Passions thing that came out of that hideousness.

But, Rebecca had a priceless line:
" You'll be in jail for a very long time. Of course, with your good looks, you could get to be the bitch at the inmates ball."

I love Julian, but that line was hilarious.

Julian's response once Rebecca had left the room.

" The thought of unholy matrimony with Rebecca gives me a migraine."

Just then the phone rang and Julian was excited about the information from the other end.

Next thing we know, Julian is at the Russell residence. Eve opens the door and asks Julian if he's lost his mind. He just steps into the house and tells Eve that he thinks he's found their son. Eve goes into Julian's arms and hugs him.

Meanwhile, Fox has made it over to the recording studio, where he runs into Whitney. He tells Whitney that he came to see Chad to get the layout of the studio before Chad leaves. Fox offers Whitney a cup of coffee and she accepts it. Whitney thanks Chad for helping them last night. She comments that though she hasn't known Fox long, he's turning out to be a good friend. Fox tells her that he wants to be her friend.....hers and Chad's - yeah, right Fox..LOL

The phone rings and Whitney thinks it might be Chad, but checking Caller ID, she sees that it's Eve. She doesn't want to talk to her, so Fox tells her it's no problem and answers the phone. Fox is smoothe, complimenting Eve, telling her that Whitney isn't at the recording studio, but he'll be sure to deliver the message if he sees her. Whitney is thankful to Fox for handling the situation.

Fox asks Whitney what she's going to do once Chad leaves for L.A. Whitney tells him that she's thinking about going with Chad, and Fox tells her it isn't a good idea. He asks Whitney how committed Chad is to her, and if they were talking about marriage. Whitney tells him that Chad thinks they're too young, and Fox, sensing he hit a nerve, comments about Whitney being ok with waiting.

I enjoyed both of the Crane men...they're best at playing roles. Fox played the role of the son, friend and confidante today. He doesn't know how to act around Whitney. Right now, his main objective is to be around her, and doing what it takes so that he can get to know her, and vice versa.Julian was Julian Crane, businessman, father, lover, and then sincere Julian at the end with Eve. Cranes survive by learning how to be chameleons, and today was a perfect example of that.
