Chapter 5

“Rebecca!” Julian gasped as both he and Eve tried to catch their breath.

“So this is why you’ve suddenly dumped me?” Rebecca asked in disbelief. “To sneak around with the town doctor?”

“I broke up with you because I don’t love you Rebecca.” Julian replied.
“Since when has love meant anything to you?” Rebecca sniped. She looked over at Eve and suddenly got a very puzzled look on her face. “Unless…”

“Unless what Rebecca?” Julian asked.

“Unless Dr. Eve Russell is your mystery woman, you know the one you would sit at the Blue Note waiting for with two glasses of special champagne. Is Dr. Russell the woman you’ve been in love with all these years?”

“Yes Rebecca, she is.” Julian looked at Eve and smiled. She smiled back and placed her hand in his. “I still love Eve, and I will always love Eve.”

“So that’s why you’ve been so moody lately.” Rebecca said. “It’s because you’ve been so close to the woman you love and you haven’t been able to be with her.” She sighed. “I can relate.”

“What do you mean you can relate?” Eve questioned.

“I have the same problem as you and Julian. I just deal with it differently.” Rebecca explained. “I’m in love with a man I’ve known or years. Of course my family wouldn’t allow us to be together, so we were torn apart. Now he’s married with children. I’m not sure how happy he is though.”

“How come you never told me this Rebecca?” Julian questioned.

“I didn’t see a reason to. I mean it’s not like we were all that close or anything.” Rebecca replied.

“Who’s the man?” Eve asked.

“I don’t’ know if I should say.” Rebecca said.

“Why not?” Julian asked.

“I don’t want to cause any trouble for him.” Rebecca answered. “I love him and I just want him to be happy.”

“You can trust us Rebecca.” Eve said. “We won’t tell anyone.”

“Well,” She mumbled. She looked at Julian, glanced at Eve and then lowered her head to examine her shoes.

“The man I love is … TC.” Rebecca finally said.
