Chapter 30

"Here they come." Shug announced as the pick up truck came into view.

"It's about damn time." Harrison said roughly. "They should have been here hours ago."

"Harrison, you hush, I'm sure Miss Hotchkiss wanted a bite to eat before coming way out here."

"We could have fed her, we got plenty of food."

"Harrison if you don't calm down, you are going to have a stroke." She warned.

They watched as Colyer halped Gwen out of the truck.

"My gosh." Harrison whispered hoarsely. "She's pregnant, I cant send her to Mexico."

Shug nudge him sharply in the ribs bringing tears to his eyes. "Stop being a woman hating pig." She hissed.

Harrison plastered a faux smile across his face. "Welcome to Fox Creek." He greeted. "This is my wife Shug." Gwen shook the southern bell's hand.

"It's nice to meet you Miss Hotchkiss." She said warmly. "I have heard so many nice things about you."

"And I you Mrs. Fox." Gwen replied. "And please call me Gwen."

"How was your flight, Miss...er Gwen?" Harrison asked.

"It was pleasant." She replied. "But I wasn't expecting it to be so hot." She said.

"Welcome to Texas." He grinned. "The best place to be outside of heaven."

"Gwen giggled softly to herself. "I am so delighted to finally meet the great Harrison Fox." She praised. "Besides my father, you're the man I admired the most. I'd read your book, To Trap A Fox, it is very rewarding to read that some men still value hard work to get ahead."

Shug and Colyer exchanged smiles, Harrison was a sucker for anyone that read his life's story.

"You-you read my book?" He stammered. "No kidding?"

"Mr. Fox, I wouldn't kid you about that." She said. "I bought my copy with me, I was hoping that you will autograph it for me." She reached into her bag and pulled out a dog-eared copy of the book.

"Miss Hotchkiss...er Gwen you're going to make an old fogy cry." He said. He gently took her by the elbow. "Come on my dear let me escort you inside. Colyer make sure Miss...er Gwen bags are taken up to the guest room."

"Okay pa." Colyer said.

Shug giggled. "Gwen is a very smart woman." She said. "She has your father eating out of his hands." She cut a look at her son. "Just like she has you."

"Huh?" Colyer gasped. "I-I don't know what you're talking about." His face turned a deep red.

Shug laughed. "I always wondered why you went all the way to Maine to do charity work when there are so many charities here to choose from."

"I thought I explained that to you." He said defensively.

"Of course you have." She smiled, trying to stiffle her laugh. "You wanted to build houses for the homeless."

"And that is exactly what I did."

"Did I say you didn't? I'm just thinking that buliding houses wasn't the only reason you went back to Harmony."

"Really mother haven't you notice? Gwen is pregnant with another's man child." He gathered her bags and hurried into the house before his mother said another word.

Theresa went back to the Bed and Breakfast - all she wanted was to soak her weary body in a steamy hot tub fill of bubbles. She needed to regroup and rethink her plan to get Ethan back. So far everything she had tried backfired.

"My life is suppose to be perfect." She said sadly to herself as she began up the stairs. "I am married to the man I had loved my whole life but still nothing is going the way I dreamed it should be....fate why are you against me?"

Before she took another step, Kay grabbed her by the arm and spun her around until Theresa was facing her.

"Damn it Kay, I'm too tired to play these little kids games with you." Theresa warned her. "Now if you kindly remove your hoof from my arm, I am going upstairs to my room."

"Sorry Theresa, I can't let you go upstairs." Kay grinned. enjoying every minute of the torturing she was heaping on Theresa. "I told you we no longer accept free loaders here."

"What are you talking about?" Theresa asked. "You know Ethan is paying my bill."

"Not anymore." Kay chirped. "Pyromaniacs-in-training are not welcome here either." She smirked. "And for once my idiot brother agrees."

"I still don't know what you are talking about!" Theresa barked. "I told you that fire started by itself..."

"Stop lying!" Kay hissed. "We both know how that fire started." Kay fumed. "It's a good thing we caught it when we did."

"What does this have to do with Ethan? Did you tell him I started that fire?" She screamed. "Huh? Did you?!" She jerked Kay up by the collar. "Tell me you bitch! Did you?!"

Kay pushed Theresa off her and slapped her across the face with all of her might - drawing blood.

"Some bitchs never learn" She quipped as she showed Theresa a copy of the final bill. "Good bye and good riddance."

"Let me see that!" Theresa snapped as she snatched the bill from Kay's hands. She stared at it in disbelief.
"This-this can't be true! Ethan wouldn't..."

"Oh but he had and he did." Kay interjected.

"But-but I have no place to go." She whined.

"Not my problem."

"If Ethan doesn't want to pay for me then I'll just stay with my mom." She said triumphantly, Kay burst into a fit of laughter.

"This is perfect." She said to no one in particular. "Theresa your mom is not here, she is on her way to visit her good daughter as we speak, so therefore you are S.O.L."

"S.O.L.?"

"S**t out of luck." She smirked.

"Who's the one lying now Kay, mama don't have that kind of money. If she did she wouldn't have let me rot in jail - unless she pawned her rings...Wait a minute! she rather sell her rings to see Paloma instead of getting me out of jail? Why the selfish bitch!"

"Tsk, tsk, tsk, What a rotten thing to say Theresa." Kay said. "Oh did I forgot to mention that Ethan gave Pilar a hefty check and told her not to hurry back?" Kay tried to sound innocent but it wasn't working.

"Ethan did what?"

"Told your mama to get her groove back."

Theresa sat down on the steps with her head in her hands and began to cry. "What am I going to do?" She whined. "I have no place to go."

"The shelter is always open." Kay suggested.

"Stuff it Kay." Theresa hissed as she picked herself up. She took out her cell phone and call Ethan...
