Chapter 11

Julian looked over at Eve resting near him on the floor. They never made it over the couch though that was an oversight he planned to soon correct. He picked her up and placed her on the couch, careful not to stir her. He felt so many things rushing inside him and all he wanted was to be in this moment forever. He dreamed of her every night lying with him. Sometimes there wasn’t even sex in the dreams…but usually there was.

“Julian. Julian.” She turned over on the couch and felt the air for him. She felt so good.

“I’m right here darling. Maybe you should get dressed so you can go leave your husband. I’ll wait outside in the limo.”

“T.C!” She jumped up at the mention of his name. For the past hour with Julian, T.C. didn’t even exist. No one else existed but the two of them. She flushed for a moment thinking about the past hour.

“Yes, your husband. The man you are leaving. Tonight.” Julian stood firm on this. He was not going to spend the night in his bed alone. Not again.

“Julian, be reasonable.” She began to look for her clothes. She wondered how her underwear made it under the couch cushions.

“I am reasonable. You told me that you love me.” Julian found himself getting angry.

“I do love you, darling. I do. But I can’t just up and leave tonight. I have things to straighten out. We have things to straighten. Julian, you’re still married. Remember? How dare you get mad at me?”

“Fine. Go home, be with your ‘husband’. But you will be thinking of me tonight.” Julian realized he couldn’t win this argument because she had a point. But he would be damned if she was just walking away. He grabbed her by the back of her head and slammed his lips against hers violently.

At first she fought him, not wanting to give in twice in one night. When she felt his tongue slide through her lips, however, she couldn’t deny herself the pleasure of his kiss. She ran her nails along the back of his neck and pushed them up through his hair. She heard him moan slightly and felt his hands under the shirt she just put back on. Suddenly his hands were all over her again-under her bra, under her skirt, up and down her back. He picked her up and placed her on the edge of the desk.

“Damn it, Eve. I love you. Only you can make me this crazy. I want to make love to you again and again.” He said right before kissing her again.

“I love you too, Julian. I have to go home now but I won’t stay with T.C. forever. I know I can’t. I love you too much to fake it.” She shook her head and pushed him away. She had to get dressed. She just remembered that earlier T.C. said he wanted to ‘talk’.

“That will be the last time you push me away, woman. I have to go anyway. I forgot I had plans.”

Eve stopped in the middle of her dressing and looked up at him. Plans? She felt herself getting hot with anger and wonder for instant, if this was what T.C. felt every time he happened upon her and Julian.

“Plans? Oh, so you can just screw me in my office and tell me how much you love me and then have plans? What? Does your ‘wife’ need you at home? Maybe there is a maid you haven’t gotten to know ‘personally’ yet. Were you even planning on leaving Becks for me? Was I going to be your main side dish? Oh!” She roughly straightened her clothes and tried her best not to face the man she loved so much.

“What? Where the hell is all this coming from? I have plans that I can’t discuss in full detail, darling but it’s not another woman. How dare you get angry with me, in any case? You have a husband. A fact you remind me of every damned time I see you. ‘Oh no Julian, we can’t do it in the park. I have a husband.’ ‘I can’t be with you tonight. I love my husband.’ Well, screw your husband. He’s sleeping with your sister! You have got some nerve, woman.” Julian never thought he could be so mad at Eve. How could she play the jealous girlfriend and the loving wife off and on like this? He suddenly grew extremely tired of having his heart played with by her.

“Get out Julian. I’ll be happy never to see your sorry face again. I told you I would leave T.C. for you. I told you that. I meant it. Now, I’m beginning to wonder if I made the right choice. Good day, Julian.” She walked him to the door.

“Oh you will see my face tonight. You may be lying next to your ‘husband’ but you will be thinking of me. You always will.” Julian stalked out of the office trying to figure out if he was more hurt or angry at the dark turn of the events.

Eve was tired when she got home that night and didn’t feel like listening to her husband. She supposed she had to though since they were still legally married. Maybe she could confront him about Liz and they could move on together. Be that happy family that they once were. It was what she gave up singing and making love in public for, this family.

“Eve, you’re late. It’s after midnight. You said you’d be home hours ago.” T.C. supposed he would have been more annoyed if he hadn’t just gotten some earlier that afternoon.

“I know. I know. I’m sorry. You know how it is. What did you want to discuss.” For some reason the word ‘divorce’ repeated itself like a happy wish inside her head.

“Whitney. She told me today that she knows she adopted. She also pointed out that she’s been slowly moving in with that thug, Chad. She’s living with him, Eve. Outside of marriage.” T.C. grew upset just thinking about his little girl living in sin. The irony almost choked Eve as she watched his face.

“I don’t care, T.C.” She was finally able to say it.

“You don’t care? Why because you didn’t give birth to her? She is still your daughter. I can’t believe you can be so cold.”

“I should slap your face. Of course I care about Whitney. She told me days ago about her knowing, she knew all along. I don’t care about her living with Chad. First, he’s not a ‘thug’. Second, she’s a grown adult. She makes her own decisions. She knows that if things don’t work out, she has us. Its not the situation I would have picked for her but it’s the one she picked.” Eve turned her back to T.C and began to shuffle through the cabinets. She smiled when her hand hit what she was searching for. Vodka.

“You’re drinking?” T.C. asked, his eyes popped out in surprise.

“I’m having a drink. Toasting our daughter. Whatever.” She poured herself a three finger portion and drank fast.

“You have changed as of late, Eve. I don’t know that I like the woman I’m seeing in front of me. We don’t even make love anymore.” T.C. thought that maybe this would get her to come back to her senses. Maybe he could get lucky again tonight.

“You’re right T.C. And I don’t like the man I’m married to anymore. You’ve changed as well. You have a shorter fuse than before, you’re always angry about something. And we haven’t made love in a while because I think you’re screwing around on me. Oh, and…I want a divorce.” With that, Eve went upstairs to pack her things.
