Chapter 28
Eve went back to her room smiling and thinking of Chase. She didn’t notice
Julian sitting in the dark until he spoke up.
“It better not be another man making you smile like that.”
“It is but it’s not what you think.” She recovered quickly.
“Good. It better not be. I missed you, Eve.” Julian went to gather her
in his arms.
“Missed me enough to hire my daughter to be your errand boy?” She pushed
out of his arms and feigned anger.
“She needed a job and to get out of that house. I don’t care if you hate
me for it, Eve. She needed it and I would do anything for her.” Julian was
sincere. He had come to love Simone like a daughter and not just because
she was Eve’s.
“You mean that don’t you?”
“I do. But I don’t want to talk about that right now. I came because I
need you, Eve.” For some reason he walked away, he wanted her so much that
it hurt to look at her.
“I need you too, Julian. But you are getting remarried tomorrow.” She looked
at him sitting on the edge of her bed. His face was down and he appeared
to be shaking.
“I’m nervous. I came here to make love to you until you forgot everything
and now I’m nervous. I know I can’t tell you everything but tomorrow is
a big day for us. For a lot of people.” Julian’s voice went soft and he
felt it all come down on him.
Eve crossed the room and took his chin her hand. She leaned over and brought
his face to hers. The kiss was gentle enough at first, so gentle she almost
cried. He kissed her back and stood so that they could be closer. He ran
his hands up and down her back and then stopped to squeeze her close. He
never wanted to let go.
She broke the kiss only to let her mouth travel his neck and finally to
his ear. She heard him moan and felt his hold tighten as his hands went south.
Feeling encouraged, she undid his belt and pushed him onto the bed. She
straddled his waist and began to kiss down his chest. When she looked up
and into his eyes, all she saw was herself. She undressed without moving
off of him. She could feel what she was doing to him and it was affecting
her more than it ever had. This was the man she wanted and would always
want. He reached up to pull her bra strap down and kissed her there. He
brought her down to him and adjusted until he was inside her. He felt her
gasp and then bite his shoulder. That night he made love to her until they
both forgot everything except each other.
“I love you, Eve. Tomorrow won’t be easy but you have to know this. I love
you more than I have ever loved anyone and I always will.” He whispered
later that night as she slept. He didn’t want to move but he had plans to
solidify and he couldn’t do so there. He kissed her check once more before
leaving; he knew what he had to do.
“Julian, where is Martin?” Sheridan sounded a bit annoyed with him. She
had been waiting for hours for him to return.
“He’ll be there tomorrow, sister. Don’t worry, he won’t miss the show.
So, when are you planning on telling mother that you are expecting her ex
lover’s child?” Julian smiled at his sister’s shocked face. He left Eve’s
bed for this last meeting in the dark.
“Whatever, Julian, I just hope you haven’t hurt him. I told you that we
aren’t sleeping together. I’m just a little fat, it’s not fun to make jokes.
Have you got your end sealed? Have you talked to the lawyers?”
“Yes. I’ve talked to them and Theresa. And you are so expecting that it’s
almost funny to watch how you try to hide it. Everything is set. Did you
take care of your end?”
“Yes. The papers are destroyed. As well as any of ‘evidence.’ I cleaned
out and burned everything. With gloves and a mask on of course. I was going
to hire someone but if you want the job done…”
“You didn’t harm the baby did you?”
“Julian, of course not. I made sure the mask was secure and the gloves
were tight. No one followed me. Don’t give me that look. People are after
you more than me. You would not have been able to pull that part off, brother.”
There was no use denying the love child growing in her.
“I cannot believe we are doing this. Tomorrow will be exciting to say the
least…eh?”
“Tomorrow will be quite the day.” Sheridan kissed her brother on the cheek
and walked back to her car waiting ten minutes after he drove off before
heading home.
