Chapter 30

“Wow. This is turning into quite the afternoon.” Simone stood close to Paloma but not too close.

“Yes, I know. I mean my father getting trashed by Sheridan, my mother marrying Noah and my sister with Fox. What more could happen? Should we come out? I mean, everyone else is?”

“No. Not yet. I don’t want a public spectacle. You will owe me a dance later. I have a feeling that no one will be watching us. We could sneak away right now and no one would notice. I could take you to my room and make hot, loud love to you and no one would hear.” Simone smiled as Paloma faced her. The air had gone out between them and Paloma ached to touch her lover.

“Let’s find out.” Together they sneaked up the backstairs to Simone’s room, deciding that they could catch updates later. Simone lit scented candles and turned on soft music for the mood.

“Afternoon Delight?” Paloma question in the middle of kissing her.

“Well, if everyone is done taking over MY vow renewal ceremony…could you all go into the living room?” Rebecca loved juice but today was her day. She was happy that Theresa would no longer be a problem in her Gwennie’s life. Everyone slowly made their way to their seats and Julian took her hand. Everyone seemed to be waiting for the next surprise. Half way through beginning of the vows, they got what they wanted.

Eve walked in with Chance and they both seemed to float. She was on her arm looking very sexy yet not (overused derogatory adjective) . All eyes turned to her and her guest with baited breath.

“I’m so sorry. We were late because Chance had some things she had to tell me.” Eve glowed. Chase could no longer keep his secret and he could feel Alistair fume from across the room. He had no idea that middle class Eve would be happy to have a drag queen for a son.

“What did he have to tell you, Eve?” He asked and was rewarded with an icy stare full of hate.

“Chase?!” Chad turned around at the mention of his old friend’s name. He ran to him and picked him up.

“CHAD! Good Lord, I had no idea you would be here. Is she the one?” Chase remembered the letters from his chum about a very special woman he was in love with. Whitney had rushed to Chad’s side to see who he felt the need to run to.

“YES! Man, she is definitely the one. Whitney Russell, I would like you to meet Chance. Later she will probably be Chase.” Whitney extended her hand and Chase gave it a kiss.

“Russell? Eve, is this your daughter?” Chance asked with excitement.

“Yes, I have another one but I don’t know where she went off to.” Eve looked around for Simone.

“Well, Eve. I’m surprised. Bringing that sort of people in with you. Maybe I shouldn’t be.” T.C. spoke up from his seat. He could not believe the nerve of his ex-wife. How could bring a drag queen to a public event right after daughter came out?

“Maybe she’s the reason, Simone is so confused.” Liz said to no one in particular. She knew what was going to happen and fully intended to enjoy it.

“Okay, Liz. I was going to let it slip but you just had to keep talking. First of all, T.C., it is not my concern what you do or do not believe. Second, I think its real bad taste to bring my sister to a public event as your date, so soon after our divorce.” For the first time Eve felt a delicious shock after causing a look of pain over her sister’s face. She knew this lie would cost her and Eve could care less.

“BITCH!”

“Baby, what is she talking about?” T.C. looked over at the love of his life and wondered what was going on. She refused to meet his eyes.

“I didn’t know how to tell you. I wanted to tell you. I love you so much, T.C. Please don’t leave me over this.” It was the first time anyone had seen Liz act so sincerely. Eve was almost touched at the tears in her sister’s eyes.

“We will talk about this when we get home. I’m not leaving you, though. You don’t have to worry about that. I love you, Liz. I love you more than anything.” T.C. hugged Liz tightly. He knew that whatever reasons she had for lying were not her fault. He blamed Eve.

“EXCUSE ME! THIS IS MY DAY. SO WOULD EVERYONE WHO IS NOT ME PLEASE SHUT THE HELL UP?!” Rebecca would not upstaged by Eve, of all people. She had spent too much time on this dress that Simone picked. She was angry that Julian was not saying anything.

“Actually, dearest, she can do whatever she wants.” Julian stepped back from Rebecca. He looked at his watch and knew what he had to do.

“Can I Julian? Can I do whatever I want?” Eve asked with a deeper meaning behind her voice. Everyone looked at the two of them surprised.

“Is she going to do what I think she’s going to do?” Kay whispered to Tabitha.

“Hush!” She whispered back loudly.

“Whatever you wish to do, my love.” Julian smiled as she came running towards him. Her legs looked strong and slim under her dress. She pushed Rebecca out her way and stood up close to Julian. She faced him until they were close enough to kiss but didn’t kiss him.

“Don’t you ever leave my bed again without saying anything. Better yet, don’t you ever leave my bed again.” She said softly and then grabbed him by the back of his neck and kissed him. They kissed long and hard while the guests and Rebecca looked on in complete shock.

Everyone started talking at once because while Pilar and Noah had been a shock, this was amazingly unexpected. People had noticed the change in Eve’s behavior but no one had ever seen those two in a room together for very long. In fact, everyone thought Eve detested Julian and that Julian had no idea who Eve was.

“I want you right now, Eve. Last night was not enough.” Julian held her close and took a moment just to take her in.

“I have a surprise for you honey. Promise you won’t be weird?” Eve decided it was now or never.

“Yes, I promise.” He said and waited. He had no idea what she was going to say.

“I found our son.”

“You two have a son?” Someone from the audience asked.

“Yes, can I finish?” Eve asked no one in particular. She never took her eyes off of Julian.

“You better.”

“Okay, Julian our son is..”

“Me, the prettiest drag queen you’ve ever seen.” Chance could see that Eve was choking up and afraid how he would take the news. If anyone was going to get the brunt of this, she wanted it to be her, Chance.

“You are the product that came from the love that I and Eve shared?” Julian looked at Chance in a whole new light. She did have Eve’s eyes. Chance looked remarkable like Eve now that he really saw her. Yet, there was something about her smile that said pure Julian.

“Yes, Julian, I am.”

Everyone was waiting for Julian to react. Some were taking bets and some had given up on texting and just called their friends to give them a play by play.

“You look lovely. Call me ‘father’ when you are more comfortable.” Julian hugged Chance to him closely and felt complete for the first time in a long while. He didn’t know how he would feel having a drag queen for a son but he didn’t care. All he had wanted was for his long lost son to be happy and healthy and not in trouble. He was happy. Everyone was a little confused but started to cheer.

“Julian, really? You’ll accept him as he is? You will love him and us and my family no matter what?”

“I will love you and our family, for your family is mine now, forever. Marry me, Eve. I love you. Marry me.”

“Yes, Julian, yes!” She kissed him again and forgot about everyone else. She jumped in his arms and wrapped her legs around his waist. Her dressed rose higher and everyone got a good look at some thigh but she did not care. She was in love and was finally going to be Mrs. Dr. Eve Crane. Or just Dr. Eve Crane.

“WAIT! You can’t marry her. You are married to me and I’m not giving you a divorce. How could you do this to me, Julian Crane?!” Rebecca yelled, knocking Eve off of Julian.

Eve stumbled back and once she regained herself, she grabbed Rebecca by the hair and pulled.

“That will be the last time you will put your hands on me.” She whispered into her ear as she shoved her down to the floor. Eve looked down on Rebecca as she lay on the floor and smiled.

“He can’t marry you till he divorces me.” Rebecca stated calmly, she did not want to provoke Eve anymore. She almost didn’t move from her spot but had no intention of spending her vow renewal ceremony looking up the dress of her husband’s mistress.

“Actually, he was never married to you. Rebecca.” Theresa stood up from her spot with Fox and her children.

“What the hell are you talking about?” Ivy spoke up; she hated it when Theresa spoke.

“He’s definitely not YOUR husband.” Rebecca piped in.

“No, I’m not. I’m Eve’s husband. I have been for the past twenty six years.” Julian smiled into the shocked faces of the crowd.
