The Ultimate Betrayal ch. 13

Later that evening, Rebecca sulked into the mansion. After the scene with Liz being publicly humiliated, Julian had taken the coward's way out and ran off before Liz had a chance to turn her anger onto him. Rebecca had no idea where he went and he had the keys to the car, so she had to take a cab home once again.

A few minutes later, Gwen showed up at the mansion. She had walked in to find Rebecca drowning her problems with ice cream.

"Cravings for ice cream?" Gwen asked. Rebecca took another big spoonfull of ice cream.

"I wish," Rebecca said.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Gwen asked.

"Pookey ditched me at the Seascape and I had to take a cab home." Rebecca said.

"Again?" Gwen asked.

"Liz was acting like the freak that she is and Julian hates her anyhow, so he freaked out and left." Rebecca said. "At least I got pictures of Liz being humiliated." Gwen's jaw dropped.

"Mother, how could you do something like that to someone?" Gwen asked.

"How could I not? I was the one who shoved her into a plate of spaghetti! Too bad I didn't have a video camera so I could send it in to America's Funniest Home Videos!" Rebecca said. Gwen's jaw dropped at how far Rebecca was willing to go, even though she didn't like Liz that well either she thought that was pretty extreme. "She was totally humiliated, you should have seen her- she looked like something out of a horror movie running around yelling at anyone who looked at the spaghetti in Spaghettio's hair!" Rebecca said. Rebecca laughed over the nickname Spaghettio.

"Mother!" Gwen exclaimed.

"Hey, she's been harrassing my pookey, and she dumped her drink right onto Eve's lap on purpose, I knew if I didn't do something she'd make Julian's life a living hell." Rebecca said. Gwen yanked the ice cream out of Rebecca's hand.

"Hey!" Rebecca said.

"Mother, you are going to listen for once!" Gwen said, finally having enough of Rebecca's schemes.

"Listen to what?" Rebecca asked.

"You need to quit interferring in other people's problems!" Gwen said.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Rebecca asked.

"Well, now you're getting yourself involved in the Russell's problems," Gwen said.

"I've also helped you get closer to Ethan several times," Rebecca pointed out.

"Yeah, and as a result, Theresa uses all the times that she and Ethan have been broken up and everything that happened to her with Julian to get sympathy from my husband." Gwen said.

"She's a vulture, what do you expect?" Rebecca asked.

"For you to have more common sense!" Gwen said.

"She also stole my pookey! Not to mention almost robbed him of his manhood on several occassions," Rebecca said, thinking about the landlord game where Theresa had gotten Julian so worked up the night Ivy had got tossed out during the blizzard. "Now give me back that ice cream." Gwen sighed and handed the ice cream back to Rebecca.

"Mother, you'll need a lot more than ice cream to fix your problems when you wake up and realize that sending those letters to the tabloids and exposing the fact that Theresa was careless enough to scan the letter onto her laptop gave Theresa the opportunity to get sympathy from Ethan by flying down to Bermuda and pulling that guilt trip to try to get Julian to adopt Ethan back into the family so she could look like the hero!" Gwen said.

"Gwennie, but you are the one that has Ethan! That's what's important!" Rebecca said.

"And what else happened in Bermuda? Julian got Theresa drunk then she ended up getting tricked into thinking she married him." Gwen said. "That was no one's fault but your own!"

"Gwen, what kind of daughter say something like that to her own mother? I had to share my husband with two other women- my worst enemies, in the same house!" Rebecca said.

"An honest one." Gwen said, cringing at how fast the container of ice cream was disappearing. "And, being married to Julian gave Theresa the perfect opportunity to guilt trip Ethan for leaving her because he didn't think he could trust her by saying that she wanted the Crane money and power so she could give Little Ethan the kind of life that she wanted for him but couldn't give him because she couldn't have my husband." Gwen said. Gwen turned to leave.

"Gwennie, what's wrong with trying to take care of my daughter?" Rebecca asked.

"I'm an adult now, mother, I'm responsible for my own life and it's just something you're going to have to accept." Gwen said. Gwen's baby started fussing in the other room. "And right now I happen to have a son to take care of, and Ethan and I can take care of our own marraige." Gwen said. Gwen left to check on her baby. Julian walked into the room after seeing Gwen storm out.

"What the hell was that all about?" Julian asked.

"First, my pookey ditches me at the Seascape running from Liz like a coward and I have to take a cab home, then Gwen gets mad at me for no reason and starts pointing out every one of my schemes that have backfired, and to top it all off I have an ice cream headache." Rebecca said. Julian rolled his eyes.
 

Meanwhile, Sheridan screamed in the pit.

"Someone get me out of here!" Sheridan begged. Precious made monkey sounds. "Wait, that sounded like Precious! I have to be hearing things! If that was Precious, then that would mean-"

"Yeah, Bethy kidnapped you!" Mrs Wallace chimed in.

"Don't hurt me!" Sheridan begged.

"I'm not going to hurt you, I promise!" Mrs. Wallace said. "I tried to help you sooner but Beth just made everyone think I was senile- she's in cahoots with that looney Charlie that was threatening you on the wharf that one day!"

"Oh my God," Sheridan said.

"Don't worry, we'll get you out of there! Isn't that right, Precious?" Mrs. Wallace said eagerly. Precious answered with monkey noises. "Now we better get Sheridan out of there before Beth and Charlie horse come home!" Mrs. Wallace said. Mrs. Wallace found a strong cable in the basement and started to lower it in. "I hope it's long enough!" Mrs. Wallace called out, while Precious shined a flashlight down the pit.
