The Ultimate Betrayal - Chapter 3 (Shocking News For Pookey)

Liz smirked in satisfaction as the doctor announced Eve’s pregnancy to the Russell family.
Simone dragged Whitney aside and grinned triumphantly.

“Well, Whitney, I don’t have to waste my time arguing with you anymore because I’m going to have a new brother or sister- a replacement for you!” Simone said. “I’ll make sure that baby doesn’t turn out to be a backstabbing sister like you!”

“Oh, Simone!” Whitney said. Whitney burst into tears and ran off. How could Simone say something so hateful? Especially after things were finally calm for the first time since Eve and TC’s latest fight- over her engagement to Chad? TC had nearly disowned Whitney, causing a lot of problems for the Russell family. When Whitney ran off, blinded by tears, she crashed into Julian, who was pacing around the hallway waiting for the doctor to finish doing tests on Rebecca.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Crane,” Whitney apologized, choking on a sob. Julian comforted her.

“Whitney, are you alright? What happened?” Julian asked. “Oh no, did something happen between you and Chad?” Julian assumed that Whitney was upset about the Russell family fued.

“No, Simone hates me,” Whitney said.

“What did Simone do?” Julian asked.

“The doctor just told us that mom was pregnant, Simone told me that she hoped she’d have a replacement sister so she could make sure the baby didn’t grow up to be a back stabber!” Whitney said. Julian stared at Whitney in shock, stunned by the news.

“Whitney, did you just say that Eve is pregnant?” Julian asked in shock.

“Yes,” Whitney sobbed, unable to say any more. A thousand thoughts at once were going through Julian’s mind.

“Oh my God, could I be the father of Eve’s baby?” Julian thought. Julian knew that Eve and TC had been fighting for months. “Am I the father of Eve’s baby, or is TC?” Julian thought.

“I have to go,” Whitney said, needing to go outside for some air.

Meanwhile, Liz dragged Eve aside.

“What do you want?” Eve asked. It was just like Liz to try to sabotage this special moment for her. Liz smirked like the Cheshire cat from Alice in Wonderland.

“Well, well, well, Eve, your little secrets just keep leaking out.” Liz said.

“Are you suggesting I would try to hide this baby from TC?!” Eve asked, raising a hand. Liz grabbed her wrist to keep from being slapped.

“If you slapped me, what would anyone walking by think?” Liz asked.

“You’re right, you’re not worth it.” Eve said in disgust.

“Well, TC knows half of the surprise, just wait until he finds out that there’s a huge possibility that he might not be the father of this baby you’re carrying!” Liz said.

“Liz, you’re a monster!” Eve said.

“Me? TC will think I’m wearing a halo when he finds out all about your sordid past.” Liz said. “Then who knows, I might have to give him that baby that he’s going to loose when I tell him all of your little secrets.” Liz said.

“You’ll never have my husband!” Eve said. Liz walked behind Eve’s back. “What are you doing?”

“I think you’re missing a string.” Liz said.

“What are you talking about?” Eve asked.

“Well if you’re going to make a comeback to my threats at least try not to sound like one of those dolls where you pull the string in their back and they say the same thing over and over.” Liz said. Liz walked off. Liz’s jaw dropped.

“What is Julian Crane doing here?” Liz asked. The next thought was just too good. “Oh my God, I bet Eve called and got her secret lover to meet her here so he could be in on the news!” Liz said. Liz’s smile fell when Rebecca joined Julian. “Oh gee, it’s pookey but why is smirkey with him?” Liz thought. Liz’s jaw dropped when she overheard the doctor telling a thrilled Julian and Rebecca that Rebecca was pregnant. “Damn, Rebecca now I won’t be able to have as much fun tormenting Eve if your floozy wife is pregnant!” Liz said. “Or will I?” Liz’s scheming mind quickly got out of its rut, the possibilities of how to torture her big sister were suddenly endless.

“Ow!” Liz said, smiling so hard that her face literally hurt! “Now I know what my parents meant when I was younger and made faces in the mirror they said they’d get stuck that way if I made the face long enough.” Still, Liz couldn’t help but grin about her next plan. Little Lizes appeared on her shoulders, one was an angel and one was a devil.

“Liz don’t even think about it, I know you’re not that cruel, if you have just one- just one itty bitty shred of conscience left you won’t-“ the good Liz said.

“You’re fired!” Liz yelled at her good conscience. “Get a new job!” A few people walking by stared at her.

“Don’t make eye contact,” A woman told her startled teenage son.

“About time,” The evil conscience said.

“You can’t listen to her!” The good conscience said.

“If you have a conscience you’ll put her out of her misery,” Liz said to her evil conscience. Liz realized she might offend the evil one. “I meant that in the best possible way of course, I meant evil-evil-“ Liz imagined her evil conscience swinging the good one around by the hair and throwing it off of her shoulder. “Don’t come back!” Liz said.

Later after coming home from the hospital, Julian stared into his wine glass.

“Three?” Julian asked. “How could I have possibly gotten Tabitha, Rebecca, and maybe Eve pregnant- at the same time?” Julian thought. Julian wanted more than anything to be part of his and Eve’s baby’s life and do things right this time but he didn’t know what he was going to do. “Rebecca would kill me,” Julian thought. “Oh God especially if she found out I made love to Eve during our honeymoon.” Julian said. “If they found out I was the one who got Tabitha Lennox pregnant, both Eve and Rebecca would kill me.” Julian said. “What am I going to do?” Julian asked desperately, drowning his problems in alcohol. Julian poured himself glass after glass of wine. Later Julian got up and stumbled. He realized that he was so drunk he couldn’t walk straight and sank back into his chair. “I’m a mess,” Julian said. Julian heard Rebecca calling him from the hallway. He had managed to get to the library door and lock it. “If Rebecca saw what a mess I was now she’d figure everything out.” Julian said. Julian poured himself another glass. “There’s no reason why we should both be miserable.” Julian continued to get drunk. He knew that no matter how this situation turned out that someone would end up getting hurt, other than himself by TC’s fists, that was the least of his worries since he already knew he eventually had that coming. Later, Julian’s phone rang.

“Hello father,” Julian said snidely.

“Don’t hello father me,” Alastair said.

“Either you’re an idiot or you’ve forgotten that I know everything that goes on in this library and I can see what a mess you’re making of yourself.” Alastair said.

“And you think you’re helping by calling?” Julian asked.

“Put down that glass, you halfwit.” Alastair said. “I thought I threatened you never to go near Tabitha Lennox!”

“Father, I’m really not sure what happened that night, everything just happened so fast-“ Julian said. Last thing he remembered was sipping Martimmies, then being dragged away from Tabitha’s house the next morning by Rebecca.

“I’ve known all along about your little rendevous with Eve, so don’t think any of this is going to slip past me.” Alastair said. “I better not have to stage any executions to get my coward of a son to come home this time when you run off!”

“No father.” Julian said.

“Nobody will ever find out about this mess, got it?” Alastair threatened.
