Unexpected Happenings, Chapter 46

Whitney and Simone were sitting at the wharf.

Simone spoke up first. “ Whitney, do you believe it?”

“ I guess I do. I mean, Mom wouldn’t tell us a lie. She wouldn’t say anything unless she was absolutely sure. “

” Daddy and Mrs. Bennett? Not just now, but way back then? Did we miss something? Have they been having an affair the entire time he’s been married to Mom?”

” Simone, come on. I know we’ve been disappointed in Daddy, but I don’t think he or Mrs. Bennett have been cheating on  Mom and Chief Bennett all these years. “

Simone sighed. “ I know, but it’s all so damn weird. How did Chad turn out to be our brother?”

“ Cause Daddy’s his father too.”

“ Yeah.”

“ How do you think Chad is feeling?”

“ Shock. Surprise. Relief.”

” Relief?”

” Well, one of his major fears was that when he found his parents, they wouldn’t be good people, and they wouldn’t want him. But, we know that Daddy and Mrs. Bennett, at their core, are good people.”

“ And they would NEVER turn their backs on Chad.”

“ Nope. “

“ Well, I can’t deal with this right now, so I hope we don’t run into Chad. You know, I totally was ready to go on our vacation before, but now..”

” I’d be willing to leave without the luggage.”

The sisters laughed. Whitney put her arm around Simone. “ Why don’t we go get some Chow’s Chinese and bring it home for dinner. We can rent some of our favorite movies. I think we need it.”

“ Sounds great.”

Jessica was knocking on Kay’s door.

” Kay, let me in. It’s my room too.”

” Go away.”

” Kay, we have to deal with it. So, let’s deal with it together. Please?”

Jessica stood there, and after a few minutes, the door lock clicked. Jessica went in and over to Kay, who was on the bed, with a pillow over her face.

” Kay, it’s not that bad.”

” Jessica, who are you trying to kid. OF COURSE, it’s that bad. “

“ Kay, it happened before any of us, including Noah, was even born.”

” And that makes it ok?”

“ I’m saying, nobody was betrayed. Everyone was single. Chad’s not a bad guy.”

“ I never said he wasn’t.”

“ And now, we have another brother.”

” On top of the baby Mom’s having with Coach Russell.”

“ Stop.” Jessica then began to laugh out loud. Kay looked at her, and then began laughing too. The two of them laughed for awhile, until they were crying and spread out on the bed, next to one another.

” You know this is messed up.”, Kay said.

” True….So, it’s California this summer?”

” Absolutely.”

“ Kay, it’s not Chad’s fault.”

” I know. I just hope he knows what he’s getting into, having the Tomato Soup Cake Queen for a mother.”

Kay and Jessica begin laughing again.

Eve was walking in the park when she bumped into Sam.

“ Sam. I’m sorry.”

“ Eve, is something wrong?”

Eve looked down at the ground, then looked at Sam. “ I  have some news, Sam. I’m sure you’ll hear it today probably, so I guess I can tell you.”

Sam walked them both over to a bench, where they sat down.

“ Eve, I don’t..”

” Don’t know if we’re friends. If you forgive me? I understand that, but I thought you should know what happened today. I found Chad’s parents.”

” You did? That’s great. Do they live in Harmony?”

” Yes.”

“ Do you think they’ll acknowledge Chad and want him in their lives?”

“ I’m sure of it.”

“ So, who are they?”

” TC and Grace.”

Sam stared at Eve and it was silent between them as he processed what she said. “ TC AND GRACE?”

” Yes.”

” Are you sure?”

” Definitely. Ran the test several times.”

  ” How?”

” I guess TC and Grace knew one another before they met us.”

” But Grace..”

“ Didn’t remember anything about TC. Or being pregnant. Or having a baby.”

” She didn’t remember it. I mean, I was married to Grace for years, and I know she had amnesia, but to forget a BABY?”

 I know.”

“ Wow.”

” Yeah.”

” How do you feel about it?”

” What’s there for me to feel about it? This happened before TC ever met me. I’m glad that Chad found his parents and that they’ll love him. He deserves it. Well, I’m going home. It’s been a long day.”

” Yeah, thanks Eve. For telling me.”

” No problem.”

Chad, TC and Grace were at the Book Café. There was a sense of wonder between the three of them. Nobody knew where to begin. Grace spoke up first.

Chad, I know that this might be rushing things, but do you want to move in?”

Chad stared at Grace. “ Move in?”

” I…I know….this is so weird. But, Kay and Jessica have moved out, and the house is big for one person. Well, one and one coming.” Grace blushed.

” Wow….the..the baby is my brother or sister. …right?”

” Yes. It is.”, Grace replied.  “ There’s an apartment over the garage. It would give you your privacy, but bring you closer to us….I’d really like it if you’d move there. We’ve lost enough time, don’t you think?” Grace reached out and grabbed ahold to Chad’s hand.

It was like a dream to Chad. He had wondered about his mother all these years, and here she was, and she totally wanted him. Sure, folks were going to talk, but he didn’t give a damn.

” Sure. I’ll start moving today.”

” We can use my truck. I’ll help you, Chad.”, TC volunteered.

The three of them knew that this was the beginning for their family.
