Wait For Me; Chapter 5 (Evian)
by ejcrane

Julian woke up six hours later in a hospital bed at Harmony Hospital. His body was so stiff. And God, how it hurt to move his neck; how it hurt to just move his mouth.

“Mr. Crane, it’s good to see you coming to,” Dr. White said, “How are you feeling?” he asked Julian.

Julian attempted to talk, but winced in pain.

“If it hurts to talk, blink your eyes,” the doctor instructed him.

Julian blinked. He then turned to his right and saw Eve sitting and watching him nervously and worriedly. Everything came back to him.

“Mr. Crane, I ran some CAT scans and it seems that in the fall that you took, you injured your spinal cord. Do you understand what I’m saying, Mr. Crane?”

Julian blinked again.

“There’s a chance you might experience paralysis, but first we have to test it out, okay?” the doctor said as he pulled out a metal instrument.

The doctor picked up the sheet to reveal Julian’s legs and feet, but the thing was…was Julian couldn’t feel the sheet upon his legs. Why couldn’t he feel the sheet?

“Do you feel this, Mr. Crane?” the doctor ran the metal instrument along the bottom of his foot from his heel to his toes.

Julian never blinked. His eyes searched the room. Eve could see his eyes move from one thing to another. She then saw as a tear escaped the corner of his eye and fell down the side of his face as he stared up.

“Is there any feeling as I do this, Mr. Crane?” the doctor ran the same object along Julian’s legs.

But Julian just shut his eyes; he never opened them back up. He knew it. He knew that he was paralyzed. Tears streamed down the sides of his face. Julian picked up his arm and brought his hand to his face to wipe the tears away. Well, now he knew he had the use of his arms. He was just paralyzed from the waist down. Just paralyzed from the waist down?! That meant he would never walk again!
---

Two weeks passed and Julian was still in the hospital. He had had it with this hospital and was ready to leave. Julian swung his legs over the side of the bed and tried to feel the floor, but couldn’t seem to.

“Why do they keep these beds so high up; I can’t even feel the damn floor!” he said aloud.

But when he looked down, he saw that his feet were indeed on the floor; he just couldn’t feel it, due to his paralysis.

His wheel chair was only a few feet away; he could make it. It was just a hop, skip, and a jump from the bed. But as Julian tried to stand on his suddenly heavy limbs, he lost his balance and fell straight to the floor.

The wheel chair went rolling back and that’s when Eve came in.

“Oh my God, Julian, are you okay,” she bent down to help him.

He spit out blood from his mouth as his lip got busted on the floor.

“I’m bloody fine, DAMNIT! Just leave me the hell alone, Eve; you’ve done enough already!” he lifted himself off the floor with his arms, but he fell back down when they gave out.

“Julian, let me help you,” she cried out.

“NO! Get the hell away from me!” he growled, “NURSE! NURSE!” he screamed and was overjoyed when a nurse came in and helped him into his wheel chair, “Oh, thank you sweetheart…” he sighed, “What would I have done without you?” he looked passed Eve as he began moving passed her and out of his room.

Eve stayed behind and cleaned up the smeared blood that was left on the floor. How did she ever get in this position with Julian? He hated her so, and she loved him. She wanted to be with him, but he didn’t let her, because he blamed her for all of this!

Julian made his way to the fifth floor where he waited patiently for his physical therapist, when Tc came out of nowhere.

“Well, how’s the little paraplegic?” he chuckled.

Julian just ignored him, but that angered Tc even more.

“Just remember this, Crane,” he got up in his ear, “What would Eve want with an invalid, hmm? You won’t be able to satisfy her needs and she can’t go through life without that; it wouldn’t be fair. Why don’t you give her up to someone that CAN give her what she needs,” Tc patted Julian’s shoulder as he left him.

That was the reason why Julian was being so hard on Eve. He wanted her to forget all about him, because he knew he couldn’t be with her in the way they both had wanted.

He prayed that that surgery that was performed on his spinal cord would’ve been a success, and he would at least have some feeling in his legs.
---

Three more weeks passed and Julian was making progress with his physical therapy. He had just gotten done at the leg press lifting weights to strengthen his leg muscles and was now doing leg curls.

“That’s it, Mr. Crane,” Tawny cheered him on.

Tawny Byers was a young blonde woman, and Julian’s physical therapist. She was so patient with him, and he was grateful for that.

“One more, Mr. Crane!” she clapped.

Julian grimaced as he extended his legs with all his might to lift the weight.

“Good, good,” she patted his shoulder and wiped off the perspiration from his forehead, “Let’s continue this tomorrow, okay?”

“No, no, please! Can I just try to walk a bit?”

“Yes, I suppose; do you feel you’re up for that?” she said unsurely.

“Yes, please!” he slid from the leg curl station to his wheel chair.

Julian then wheeled himself to the parallel bars and put the brakes on the wheel chair. Tawny rushed over to help Julian up. He grabbed onto the railing with both hands and stood straight up.

“Okay, good, now take your time,” she instructed him as she stood along side him.

Julian began to take tiny steps, and at one point he stumbled, but got his balance back and began walking forward again.

Eve watched from the door and smiled. It had been so long since she had seen Julian. Well, not really that long. She had always watched him in hiding, because she knew he would be angry to see her, but now she was so proud of him. Eve then walked slowly to the parallel bars and tapped Tawny on the back. Tawny turned to see Eve, and Eve nodded for her to leave, so she did as Eve said.

“I’m doing really well, aren’t I,” Julian laughed and turned around to walk back, but his laugh subsided when he saw that it was Eve there, not his physical therapist.

“Yes, you are Julian,” she said happily.

“Eve,” he sighed as he moved, “What are you doing here? Where’s Tawny?”

“I gave her a break,” she whispered; wondering if this had been a mistake.

Julian got to the end of the bars and was about to take a step towards his parked wheel chair, when Eve came and put her arms around him.

“Eve, I can do this myself!”

“Julian…please,” she looked him in the eye.

He nodded and placed an arm around her for balance. But just as Julian stepped he lost his balance and fell forward, taking Eve with him. He turned his body and brought Eve on top of him to break her fall, but it caused him more pain than he expected. Eve began laughing as she sat up and stared down at Julian who was lying on the blue mat. She then looked concerned as she watched him groan in pain.

“Oh my God, Julian is it your legs,” she touched them.

“NO! DAMNIT Eve, you really should watch where you put your knee!” he held himself.

Eve placed a hand over her mouth and let out a laugh.

“Sorry.”

“Just get the wheel chair, please!”

Eve looked down at Julian’s hands. He was still holding himself, and that was when Eve placed her hand on his stomach.

“Eve?” he looked up to her.

She looked into his eyes and began sliding her hand down until it made its way beneath his gray cotton warm-ups.

“Eve, what are you…” he threw his head back when he felt her hand upon him, “…doing?”

Eve didn’t answer him but continued to touch Julian.

“Eve, stop,” Julian placed his hand over hers under his pants.

She pulled her hand out and then stood. Julian was relieved for he thought she was going to get him his wheel chair, but he was absolutely stunned as he watched Eve unzip her skirt in the back and let it fall to the floor. She was left wearing her blouse and black lacy underwear, but those soon found their way to the floor.

“Eve, stop; you can’t!” Julian pleaded, but she just smiled down at him.

He wanted Eve; he wanted her so bad, but he couldn’t bear it if he would disappoint her and fail to fulfill her needs.

Eve bent over and pulled Julian’s pants down along with his boxers.

“Eve, please, no,” he shook his head as he attempted to pull his pants back up while he laid back.

But Eve was too fast for him and she straddled Julian. His hands left his pants and gripped the blue mat beneath him as he felt Eve sit upon him. She leaned forward and kissed him. Julian’s hands went to the back of her neck and pulled her away from his lips. He watched as she opened her eyes and looked to his.

“I love you, Julian. I love y…”

Julian caressed her cheek and then pulled her down onto him as he captured her lips with his.

Eve then raised herself and sat up straight and looked down on Julian as she began moving upon him. His hands rested on her hips, but traveled to her backside as he squeezed her down onto him.

“Julian,” she grunted as her body bounced up and down upon him.

Her hands rested on his chest and felt the vibration of his rumble from the groans he let out.

It had been too long since Julian felt the love only he and Eve shared, and he needed her at this very moment. He sat up and went straight for the blouse she still had on and ripped it open. Eve slowed down her pace as she watched Julian undo the clasp on the front of her bra, and she threw back her head when she felt Julian’s hands upon her breasts; caressing them…kneading them. Soon, he leaned forward and took one into his mouth and began devouring it.

“Mmm,” she moaned as she began moving once again, “Yes, oh…” she whispered.

“Eve, yes, darling; make love to me…make love to me,” Julian held her body to his.

Suddenly Julian’s eyes blinked open when he couldn’t feel himself within Eve anymore. She too looked down, but it hadn’t mattered to her if their time together was cut short, for she loved being with Julian in any way, but that wasn’t good enough for Julian…or his ego.

He let go of her and laid back down. His fists hit the mat in rage.

“Go, Eve…go.” He muttered as he fought back the tears.

“I don’t want…”

“GO Eve! Go back to Tc…just go,” he gently pushed her off of him and crawled to his wheel chair.

Eve watched as he lifted himself into the seat, and watched as he left her there on the floor…alone.
---

As soon as Julian got to his room, he wheeled himself to the bed and ripped off all the sheets and threw them to the floor in anger.

“DAMNIT!” he shouted, “Damnit!” he then cried out, “I’m worthless…I’m completely worthless,” he leaned his head down on the mattress as he sobbed, “I’m sorry, Eve,” he picked up his head and spoke aloud, “I’m not the man for you…”
