Wait For Me; Chapter 7 (Evian)
by ejcrane

A week and a half later was Eve’s trial and she was acquitted of all charges. Ethan, Eve’s lawyer, found it strange how no one viewed the surveillance videos at the hospital. What he found, he did not like. His mother-in-law had stolen Eve’s name tag, and it appeared that she was the one that used it to steal the drug that was used on “Liz” and Alistair. He shook his head. How was he going to tell Gwen what her mother did, and that he couldn’t hide important evidence. When she found out, she begged him to get rid of the tape, but he refused. He couldn’t let Eve go to prison for something she did not do.

Since Eve had been found innocent of the attempted murders of “Liz” and Alistair, she was found innocent of the attempted murder of Julian Crane. That was still a mystery. No one knew who shot him years ago.

As for Rebecca; she got off scot-free. She convinced Judge Reilly to clear her charges, and she’d do him a big favor.
---

Julian stood by Eve’s side throughout the short trial, and expected Eve to finally make a decision about who she was going to live her life with when she disappointed him for the umpteenth time. She was going to stay with Tc. Simone had been having some flashes of memories back, but all was fuzzy to her, and Eve thought her presence with her daughter and her ex-husband would jog the rest of Simone’s memory.

“I totally understand, Eve…and I hope you and Tc will be very happy together,” Julian lifted her chin and then kissed her gently on the lips, “I’ll see you,” he smiled before he left and boarded the Crane jet.

Tears streamed down her face as she watched the man she loved leave her.

“Wait for me, Julian…just wait for me…” she whispered as she looked down.

Julian was needed in Europe at Crane Industries, so he took the jet and left Harmony.

Days later, Eve was getting a cup of coffee at the hospital cafeteria when she looked up to watch the news on the Tv. They were displaying a picture of Julian, and in white bold letters were the words, “Julian Crane, died at age 52”. Eve blinked hard. This was, of course, her mind playing tricks on her, but when she opened her eyes again, she saw the footage of the Crane jet debris out in the Atlantic Ocean. Her hand went to her mouth as she tried to let out a scream, but nothing was heard. The cup that was once in her hand was now a mess on the floor. And as Eve turned to her right, Whitney was standing there.

“No, Whitney…no,” she shook her head, “It’s not true…please tell me it’s not true?” she wailed, “Please? PLEASE?!” Eve sobbed as Whitney pulled her into an embrace.

“Mom, I’m sorry…” tears found their way down Whitney’s cheeks.

“No, no; not my Julian,” her body trembled, “Noooooooo!” she cried, “He was supposed to wait for me…he was supposed to wait…” Eve didn’t finish as she fainted in her daughter’s arms.

“Mom? MOM! SOMEBODY HELP ME! I NEED A DOCTOR!” Whitney screamed.
---

“What? What happened?” Eve blinked as she sat up in the ER, “Whitney?”

“Mom, how do you feel?” Whitney squeezed her hand.

“A little light headed, but Whit what happened?”

Julian’s gone…

“Oh my God, no…” Eve laid back down and cried, “Julian…I have to see Julian,” she tried to get out of bed, “I have to call his cell phone to make sure he’s alright…”

“No, mom…you can’t,” Whitney’s voice broke, “You can’t,” she simply said.
---

Eve was released from the hospital, and was told to get some rest at home. So, while she was at home she watched the news the rest of that day. It appeared that there were no survivors and also that Julian’s body was missing. Eve sat up at the news, anticipating that maybe Julian wasn’t really dead. Tc then came in and changed the channel to ESPN; they were showing some tennis tournament.

“TC! Put it back! PUT IT BACK!” she screamed.

“Why? Crane is dead, Eve…there’s nothing that’s changed,” he rolled his eyes as he switched the channel back over to CNN, “You know, Eve…this fawning over Julian isn’t healthy for Simone’s recovery…” he said before he left her alone in their bedroom.

Eve stared at the closed door and then eyed the Tv once more. She couldn’t make out what they were saying, so she turned the volume up. And the news she had been anticipating; that Julian was alive, turned out to be something worse. The missing bodies from the flight were most likely consumed by some kind of animal in the ocean…most likely a shark or sharks.

She shut the Tv off and sank under the covers and cried herself to sleep.
---

Five months later, Tc and Eve remarried, and two months after that, Eve gave birth to a healthy baby boy.

Both Fox and Fancy demanded to know their little brother, while Tc refused that his son would consort with “Crane’s”. Eve wasn’t having that, and made sure Tc knew what was what. She had to admit that she didn’t know who the father was when she found out she was pregnant, but as soon as Julian Blake Crane-Russell, also known as J.B., was born, Eve was fixed on having blood tests to determine if Tc was in fact the father of her son, but as luck would have it, he wasn’t. She could tell that he was disappointed that he was not the father, but as for Eve, she couldn’t have been happier. Having Julian’s child once more was like they had never lost their first one. She wasn’t replacing their first son with J.B., but it was as if they had had another chance. Eve loved hers and Julian’s little boy…
---

Two years passed and Eve was at the park with J.B. She was sitting at a bench with another woman she had come to know from her weekly visits at the park with her son. Too involved in the interesting conversation she was having with Laura, Eve failed to notice her son speaking with a total stranger.

J.B. was playing on the grass with a ball, when he accidentally tossed it. He stared after the ball as it rolled to the feet of a man. The man picked up the ball and then knelt down to J.B.

“Is this yours?” he held out the ball to him.

J.B. looked at this man. He then nodded when he felt as if he could trust this man. At two years old, J.B. couldn’t exactly talk, but he understood things.

The man then sat and combed a hand over the little boy’s hair.

“Tell me, young man, what are you making there?” he asked, as he noticed J.B.’s Legos sprawled out on the grass.

J.B. just babbled.

The man laughed.

“Eve, do you know that man that’s with J.B.?” another woman pointed out as she was about to leave.

“What? What man?” Eve turned to her son who was just a few feet away from her, “Oh my God, J.B.!”

Eve jumped up and darted towards the area where her son was at. And who was this man that was with him? His hair was sort of a light brownish color with some hints of gray, and he had a beard that was the same color as his hair.

“Excuse me, who are you and what are you doing with my son!” Eve exclaimed as she picked up her little boy, who started wailing, “Shh, it’s okay, J.B.” she talked calmly to him, “Well, are you going to answer me or shall I call the cops?!”

“Miss, wait, this is my husband…he didn’t mean any harm; we’re new in town…please, I’m sorry, it won’t happen again,” Judy came from the pharmacy across the street.

“I guess it’s alright,” Eve stared deeply into the man’s eyes; there was something familiar about them, but she couldn’t put her finger on it, “It’s just you can’t trust anyone these days…I’m sorry if I overreacted.”

Who is she? The man stared at Eve, never taking his eyes off of her. I’ve seen her before…lots of times in my dreams. I know this woman, but who is she?
