Who You Really Are Chpt 14

Luis and Pilar sat together at the dining room table. They had been discussing what to do with Theresa when she came back. Pilar knew she would. She had called earlier saying she was going to come over. She hadn't sounded too happy. Luis and Pilar had been discussing whether they should let Theresa stay at the house or not. Pilar thought that they should. She felt bad for Theresa and hated making her fend for herself. Luis thought they should use touch love. He thought they had protected her from life for too long and now she needed to learn that, as an adult, there were repercussions to her decisions and that she had been making bad ones and getting off scott free. Pilar was saying that they couldn't suddenly treat Theresa different then they had her whole life and make her do things by herself when Sheridan walked in. She had left Gwen knowing Ethan would be home soon. She had enjoyed herself and was stuffed full of sweets. Luis motioned for her to take a seat while Pilar continued.
"I just can't turn my own daughter away. She's been through so much, losing Ethan, being married to Julian, she just doesn't know how to take care of herself."
"The reason she can't is because we have protected her her whole life and not let her deal with the repercussions of her own decisions like she should have been able to." Luis said. "She will never learn if we keep giving in to her and not letting her learn from her own mistakes. We have defended her to everyone for everything that she's done and that wasn't good to do. Now she thinks that whenever she does anything that we will stand up for her, regardless of what has happened. She will never grow up if we protect her all the time."
"But Luis, she has no where to go." Pilar said. She couldn't bring herself to say no to her own child. She knew that she had been way to leniant with Theresa over the years, but she was her daughter.
Luis sighed. "I know Mama. We'll see how she is when she comes over. Hopefully having to cope on her own last night helped her attitude."
Sheridan snorted. Luis and Pilar looked at her with surprise.
"Forgive me for being the pessimist, but I don't think Theresa is going to change readily at all. She called Gwen today rubbing it into her face that she and Ethan had been in his office alone together. She takes every oportunity possible to torment her and that hasn't changed at all. In fact, I think it's getting worse. She thinks that no matter what she does, you will bail her out and she doesn't take responsibility for her own actions. It's always someone elses fault when something goes wrong. Forgive me for saying so, but I think she needs some professional help."
"No one cares what you think, Sheridan," Theresa said coldly. No one has seen her walk in.
"Theresa, come sit," Pilar said. She looked nervously at Luis who smiled at her sweetly. He hoped that she would stick to her guns if the going got tough, but he wasn't going to hold his breath.
Theresa sat and glared at each of them in turn. After a few uncomfortable minutes, she broke the silence.
"Well?"
"Well what?" Luis asked.
"I'm waiting for my apology," Theresa said smugly.
Sheridan fumed. "If anything, you owe us the apology."
"I don't owe you anything little miss nosey. You're the ones who wouldn't let me in last night when I needed to be let in. You're the ones who are so selfish. I built this house for you so it is more mine than yours. I could kick you all out if I wanted to."
Luis began to feel the rage growing inside of him.
"Theresa, you heard Mama last night. She said that you had made your choice to continue chasing after Ethan and since you made that choice, you weren't allowed to come running home and expect to be let in. It was your choice, not Mama's."
"Well, Gwen got in the way last night or Ethan and I would be happily together, so it wasn't my fault. You should have let me in."
Sheridan stood from the table. She began pacing, her anger aparent. Theresa glared at her. "I don't see how this has anything to do with you at all, Sheridan. Why are you evern here?"
"Because it was my children that you kept up all last night with your wailing and screaming and it's my best friend who you continue to torment even though she is weak and tired. It is my husband you are expecting to step in and protect you from all the people you are making enemies of and it is my mother-in -law that you are giving the impossible position of deciding whether to continue to treat you like you act...like a child or to make you grow up."
Luis stared at Sheridan in amazement. He had never seen her so angry and passionate. He was happy that she had been able to put words to what they all had been feeling.
Theresa looked at her mother."Areyou going to let her speak to me like that?"
Yes Theresita, I am. Someone had to. It's time you grew up and took responsibility for your own actions. You have made your choice and now you are stuck with the repercussions. You are not allowed to move into this house."
Theresa stared at all of them in shock. She could not believe how they were treating her. "I hate you all!" she yelled as she stormed out of the house.
Pilar broke into tears after she had left. Luis put his arms around her. "You did the right thing Mama. She's an adult."
"I know Mijo, but it is still so hard."
"Hopefully, she will realize we did this for her own good soon. She will Mama."
Sheridan hoped that was the case.

Miguel was the one to answer the door when John came. He had been playing with Brandon in the living room when the doorbell rang. John walked in, all smiles.
"Hey Miguel, hows it going?"
Miguel gave John a wry smile.
"It's fine John," he said, picking up Brandon.
"I hope you don't mind that I'm taking Kay out. I really like her you know," John said, straightening his short hair.
"I don't care what she does John, but I do have to warn you. This morning, Kay came to my room and tried to get me to tell her I love her. She is only dating you because she can't have me."
A strangled gasp came from the stairs. Both turned to see a pale Kay standing there. John's eyes narrowed.
"Is this true Kay?"
Kay tried to come up with an explanation, but couldn't come up with any. John didn't have to be told. He knew by the look on her face that it was the truth. Without a word, he turned and walked out the door. Kay called after him, but he didn't listen. She turned to Miguel, expecting a triumphant smile, but there was none. Miguel almost looked sad.
"Why did you do that?" she asked.
"John is my friend. He had to know the truth. I am not going to watch him fall in love with you without him knowing that he was the second choice."
Kay couldn't argue. It was fair to John that he knew. She wasn't sure yet how she felt about John. In fact, she felt she would never love anyone but Miguel. She guessed, in a way, that she had been using John as an escape. She never meant to hurt him though. She returned to her room, giving Miguel and Brandon some time alone. What had she done with her life?

David picked up Eve for a walk on the pier. They were enjoying ice cream cones when David asked her "Julian said you two had a thing a while back. Was that true?"
Eve's face dropped. She was scared, but she knew that she would have had to have told David eventually. TC had left because of it. She hoped David wouldn't do the same thing.
"Yes we did. I was young and stupid and he was rich. I thought I loved him."
She waited for the anger to come to David's eyes, but it didn't. He just smiled at her."Is that all?"
"No, it isn't. We had a baby together."
David's eyes grew large.
"The baby suposedly died right when he was born."
"Supposedly?"
"I'm not sure I believe that he's dead. Do you hate me now?" Eve was expecting him to walk off and leave her there. She was very surprised when he took her into his arms for a long hug.
"No. I don't hate you at all. We all have things in our past we are not proud of. I certainly do. You see, I was never married to John's mother. She was a college fling you might say. I don't think I ever even loved her. We hooked up one night at a party and she got pregnant. She didn't want the responsibility of having a child. She was drug addict and a heavy drinker. It was amazing that John turned out okay. I tried to do what I thought was right and had them both move in with me, but one day, she just disappeared, leaving John with me. I don't regret having John at all, but I wish it had been under better cercumstances."
Eve was happy that he hadn't run off and that he had opened up to her. She held him close, thanking him for being so wonderful. He held her back, telling her that she was wonderful and deserved to be treated well. Eve realized that she was falling in love with him.

Ethan returned home with take out from the best restraunt in Harmony. He opened the door cautiously and was thrilled when Gwen smiled at him. He sat on the bed and kissed her forehead.
"How are you feeling?"
"Better. How was your day?"
"Great once I kicked Theresa out."
"Yeah, she called here saying you two had had some intimate time together in your office."
Ethan cringed. "I hope you realized that wasn't true."
"I doubted a little, but I don't now. I'm glad you kicked her out of the office."
"SO am I. Ready for some dinner?"
Gwen made a face."I am so full, I'm sorry Ethan. Sheridan and I spent the day eating sweets."
Ethand laughed. "That's okay. I'll just save this for later. It's good you two had some time together."
"Thank you for allt he roses by the way. They made my day."
"Anything for my beautiful wife."
They held each other silently on the bed. Thankful for each others company.

Fox walked onto the tennis courts practicing his swing as he went. He saw a beautiful girl across the way, bouncing a ball off her tennis rack. He smiled.
"You here by yourself?" he asked, pulling out all his charm. She smiled back.
"Actually, I work here." I'm Whitney."
"Fox Crane."
"Oh, you're a Crane then?" she said, a gleam in her eye.
"Is there something wrong with that?"
"Well, you men have been known to be quite the lady killers," she said teasingly.
"Are you willing to test that theory out and play a game of tennis with me?"
Whitney smiled "Only if you are ready to get your butt kicked by a girl."
Fox smiled. There was something about this girl that he liked already. Maybe this was the start of a beautiful fling.
