Back in Time, Chapter 3
by ejcrane
It was the next morning and Eve rushed down the stairs and made her way
into the kitchen to fix breakfast for everyone before she went to work. Her
eyes first met Whitney's. Whitney gave her a disappointed look and then sat
down.
How her mother could've submitted herself to Julian, she didn't know. Even
if her father was out of jail, she still couldn't believe that her mother
would...
Whitney blinked her eyes as she focused on the unfinished essay for her
application in front of her on the breakfast table. Last night she couldn't
finish it and it was due today. She couldn't even think about finishing it
when in her mind was the image of her mother and Julian Crane together. It
was one thing to picture your parents together, which gave her chills, but
her mother and...and JULIAN?! What was she thinking?!
Simone looked up when she heard her father's footsteps closer to the kitchen.
She hated his temper and wondered what he was going to start with today.
She rolled her eyes when her father kissed Whitney's head...
"How's my champ today? Hey, Sugarbear..."
Simone smiled, but it soon faded once TC turned towards Eve.
Whitney was always his favorite; even her mother's favorite. Why couldn't
she just be something to them for one day...ONE DAY?
"Mom?"
"Yes, Simone," Eve said tiredly.
She had not been able to sleep last night and was hoping she could just
go to work and forget about last night; forget it ever happened!
"I'm sorry to be such a bother," Simone said sarcastically and left the
kitchen.
Dropping what she was doing, Eve rushed out and caught up to her youngest
daughter.
"Honey, I'm sorry...what was it you wanted?"
"Nothing," Simone stopped and turned around, "I was just wondering if you
could give me advice on what would be the best school to go for...medicine."
"Medicine? You want to be a doctor?" Eve smiled, "Since when?"
"Well, it's been on my mind for a while now, but with you and dad so busy
with Whitney, I didn't want to be a bother..."
"No, no, honey, never," Eve stepped forward and pulled Simone into her
arms, "I'm so happy; I think that's wonderful that you want to become a
doctor..."
"Could we talk more about it later tonight when you come home?"
"Yes, yes, of course." Eve smiled and told her daughter goodbye and left.
Eve got to the hospital, did her rounds and then found herself in her office.
She walked over to her desk and picked up the charts and began looking them
over when she heard something fall in the restroom. Eve raised a brow as
she began walking slowly towards the closed restroom door, but was startled
when she felt someone grab her from behind.
"What the..." she turned around, "TC?" she gasped, "Oh, you scared me;
what are you doing here?"
"Can't I pay my wife a little visit," he smiled devilishly and began kissing
her.
"But TC...I can't...I..."
Eve dressed after TC left her office. She got up and walked to the restroom,
forgetting all about the noise she had heard earlier. But when she got there,
she found Julian. He was sitting on the toilet smoking a cigarette.
Julian uncrossed his legs, took the cigarette out of his mouth, and flicked
it over to Eve's feet.
"I thought you could use that," he said as he stood up and grabbed his
jacket, "Well, I should be going..."
She stepped on the cigarette and put it out.
"You had no right being in here...no right, Julian!"
"You're right, Eve. Goodbye." he said and left her office.
She rolled her eyes as the door shut. Finally! Finally Julian got the idea.
There could be nothing between them...ever!
It had been a few weeks and Eve and Julian had had no contact with each
other. They did see each other, but never acknowledged the other. It was as
it had always been.
Months passed and it was clear that Eve was pregnant. She had began showing
by the second month. Julian noticed this too and became very suspicious.
And it was when Eve had made her way over to the salad bar at the Lobster
Shack that Julian followed.
"I see you're expecting, Eve," he said into her ear, "Could it possibly
be mine, darling?" he grinned.
"No!" she hissed.
"Are you sure?"
"Julian stop!"
She had about just enough of this. First it was Whitney with this nonsense,
and now Julian.
"I will not stop," he said through gritted teeth, "If there's a chance
this baby could be mine, I have a right to know!" he gripped her arm.
TC saw this from afar and got up fast to get Julian away from his wife.
"Why would you want to know? You never cared about our first one?" she
said snidely.
“That’s not fair! I never knew about our child, Eve!”
“So you say…”
Something broke in Julian's eyes. She saw it and felt it as his grip became
looser. Julian turned, walked to his table, spoke to Rebecca, and escorted
her out of the restaurant. Eve was just about to step forward to catch up
to him to apologize, when TC caught her off guard and demanded to know what
Julian wanted.
“Nothing, TC, nothing…” she grabbed her bowl and walked to their table.
Six more months had gone by. Eve was just on her way home when she jumped
into the elevator just as the door was closing. It was just her and another
man in the elevator. She never got a good look of him, for he had been reading
the paper and had it opened up in front of him, covering his upper body
and face.
Eve pushed the button that had the number one and stood back against the
wall.
Julian peeked out from behind the paper and looked at Eve. His eyes ran
from her face down her body to her legs and back up until they settled on
her stomach. He smiled. In his eyes, Eve had always been beautiful, but now…she
was gorgeous and radiant…she was…
Suddenly the lights turned off and Eve began screaming as the elevator
stopped moving. Julian dropped the paper in the darkness and found Eve.
He wrapped his arms around her as protection and tried to hold onto her
when she began struggling and screaming even more.
Eve didn’t know what was happening. The power was out and now she was being
attacked?!
“Eve, shhhhh,” Julian whispered into her ear, “It’ll be okay. I promise
I won’t let anything happen to you…or your baby,” he vowed.
“J-ju-julian?” she whimpered.
“Yes, Eve, it’s me, shhhhhh…” he held her, “Are you okay?”
“Yes, yes,” she cried out, “Oh God…not now,” she cried even louder.
“Eve, what is it?”
“My, my water just broke!” she said right before she sank back into his
arms.
“Wh-what?!”
“My water broke!” she screamed as she felt a contraction coming on, “Ohhh,
Juliannnn! The baby’s coming!” she slid to the floor.
“Don’t worry, Eve…everything’s going to be fine; everything’s going to
be fine,” he said as he took off his coat and put it under her head for
support.
He knelt down beside her and began panicking. What was he supposed to do
next?!
