The Best Laid Plans-Chapter 4

In Jax's limo, he and Dara arrive at the club in less than 10 minutes. "Mama's Child" looked like a very popular spot. There was a line waiting out the door for entrance. Dara took Jax right up to the top of the line. She said something to the guard, and they were let right in.

Once inside, they took a table down front. The band that night was a new jazz group from New Orleans. They were a new band, initial album and this performance was one on the promotional tour. The place was packed with movers and shakers of the music world.

A handsome gentleman approached their table. He was smiling from ear to ear.

"Well, well, Dara Jensen, what brings you to MY place."

"Hi Rolly. I was in town, and thought I'd stop by. Considering I helped you get this place, I wanted to see if my work was for nothing."

"For nothing? Girl, please. You KNEW I had THE Jazz place in all of Manhattan."

"How could I NOT know? You must have sent me five copies of the NYTimes Review."

"6, but who's counting? So, who's your friend?"

"Ralston "Rolly" Johnston, meet Jasper Jacks."

"Nice to meet you."

"Likewise. So, Dara, are those pipes of yours still in shape? Mr. Jax, do you know about Dara's angelic voice?"

"Yes."

"Dara, come on. Sing for me."

"Rolly, I cannot sing in front of all these people."

"Sure you can. You sang in front of us every Sunday at church."

"That's different."

"No, it's not. You OWE me Dara. You never come visit, and the last time we played tennis, you lost, and you said I could name my prize. Well, this is it."

"That match was over 2 years ago."

"So, there is no time limit on tennis losses. Is there, Mr. Jacks?"

"Well, actually I think it's 5 years."

"See, even under time limits, it's still good. Come on Dara, don't refuse me your voice. And I know exactly what you should sing."

"NO....not that Rolly."

"Yes...honey, no one sings that song better than you. Well, maybe one lady, and we will not fault you for being as good as The Queen of Soul. So, come on."

Rolly drags Dara to the stage.

"Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm Rolly Johnston, owner/propreitor of "Mama's Child". I have a special treat for you. Before I followed my life long dream owning my own club, I used to be an investment banker. When I first began working on this dream, I needed legal advice. I could not really afford it because I put every penny I had into here, but I had one friend, an attorney, who helped me all the way in my legal battles, from beginning to end. We grew up together. And she has one of the best set of pipes that I have ever heard. She has graciously agreed to perform for us tonight. So, put your hands together, and give a warm "Mama's Child" welcome to my friend, Ms. Dara Jensen."

Dara reluctantly gets to the microphone, and the band starts to play "Ain't No Way."

Ain't no way....for me to love you, IF you won't let me........
It ain't no way, for me to give you all you need...
if you won't let me give all of me

i know that a woman's duty... is to help and love a man....
and that's the way, it was planned.......

Oh, but how can i..... how can i.... how can i
give you all things i can......
if you're tying both of my hands

ohhhh, it ain't no way
it ain't no way
it just ain't no way, baby
ain't no way , baby

it ain't no way for me to love you...if you won't let me

stop trying to be someone you're not.........
a hardcore recruit is a man.....
who paid too much for what he got.....
and if you need me,  like you say , say you do

oh baby please please. please...dont you know that I need you

ohhhh

it aint no way...............

i tell you that .....
it aint no way
it aint no way
it aint no way, baby

naw....

just ain't no way

it sho' ain't no way
it ain't no way.....
for me to love you..
if you won't let me.....

ain't no way...
if you won't let me...

As Dara got more and more into the song, you could feel the depth of it in her voice. Jax became almost mesmerized by the words and Dara's voice. It was as if the song was speaking to him. As Dara finished, the club gave her a standing ovation.
Dara found her way back to the table.

"Well, I certainly embarrassed myself."

"No, you didn't. You were WONDERFUL, Dara. Didn't you see all these people give you a standing ovation?"

"I just thought that they were being nice."

"Nice had nothing to do with it."

"Well, I'm tired. Do you think we can go. I have a meeting in the morning."

"Surely."

Jax and Dara said nothing as they rode back to the Carlyle. Jax took Dara to her room.

"So, what room are you staying in?"

"I'm not exactly in a room. My parents own an apartment here. About 7 floor up."

"Oh. Well, I've heard of roughing it, but you bring it to a new level."

"I would have asked you to stay there with me, but I did not want to seem inappropriate."

"No. My suite is fine."

"Can we have dinner, tomorrow? I believe I can get theater tickets from the concierge. Is there something specific you'd like to see?"

"Not really. Suprise me. I'll leave a message for you as to what time I can make it for dinner, OK."

"That would be great. Goodnight Dara."

"Nite, Jax."

Emily approaches Nikolas in the Hospital Cafeteria.

"Hi Nikolas. Mind if I sit here?"

"No, Emily. Not at all. So how have you been doing? How do you like the teen program?"

"I know this must sound wierd, but I am SO glad to be working. The kids are nice."

"Yes, they are."

"So, Nikolas, what do you do for fun?"

"What do you have in mind?"

"Well, I know that Grandfather is hosting this BBQ, very informal thing for all the GH Hospital Board. It's going to be held by our Boathouse. Would you like to come? I mean, I know that your uncle is going to be there and all, but I thought we could have some fun. Grandfather, in his infinite wisdom, wanting me to be able to have fun, has installed this sort of mini-water park on that end of the estate."

"Excuse me.....water park?"

"Yes, you know...different types of slides...and even this wave pool thing. Not as big as at the regular parks, but a lot of fun. Of course, we could go riding if you want."

"No...the water park sounds great. And don't worry about me and my uncle. I cannot avoid him forever. And I think I'd have a great time. When is it?"

"Day after tomorrow. Glad you're coming. It gets to be sort of a drag...being the only person under 18 at family functions."

(laughs) "Tell me about it. Well, I have to go to my next appointment. See you then, Emily."

"Bye, Nikolas."

Bobbie checks herself in the mirror in the hall. Well, I do look presentable. She is here to meet Alicia Lozano.

"I hope she takes my case."

She knocks on the door.

"Mrs. Cassadine?"

"Bobbie, please."

"Well, Bobbie, how do you do. I'm Alicia Lozano. Please, come in."

"Would you like something to drink, Bobbie?"

"Mineral water with lemon."

"Sounds good to me."

They sit down. Bobbie assesses Ms. Lozano. From her handshake to her walk, she exudes complete confidence. She is an attractive woman, not beautiful, but her confidence is very attractive on her. Suit...Jil Sander. Her hair was very wild. Not something she thought she'd see on a Park Avenue attorney.

"Well, where do I start?"

"Why not at the beginning?"

"The beginning? I don't really don't know about the beginning. I guess it was the night of my 40th Birthday Party. I am crying, on my stoop, when this attractive gentlemen comes and offers me a handkerchief and a shoulder to cry on. My previous marriage was over; I just hadn't bothered to acknowledge it. He and the kewpie doll he'd eventually leave me for, had thrown me a surprise party. It was quite an evening. Things progressed. This gentlemen and I became friends. Eventually, Marriage #3 ended, and less than a month later, I married Stefan. I think I was sane up until the marriage vows, and then I lapsed into a COMA/LOBOTOMY. I stayed that way, for months, and then things ended terribly between us."

"So, tell me, why did you come to me?"

"To be honest, I already went and got a Dominican Republic Divorce. But something went wrong with it, and I decided that I divorcing him like that was hasty. So, I went to Justus, and he called you, and you are here."

"What happened to change your mind?"

"He practically owns the hospital where I work. Things have been happening to me...small things, but I suspect he is behind the harrassment."

"What kind of settlement did you get from him?"

"Well, upon the marriage, I got $6 million dollars, but I gave it back."

"EXCUSE ME? You GAVE back $6 million. Pardon my language, BUT WHAT THE HELL FOR?"

"There are things in my past...that if they got out...well, I was thinking of my son."

"Did any of these things happen WHILE you were married to Mr. Cassadine?"

"No."

"Well, then, they didn't matter a bit. So, what were the terms of the pre-nuptual agreement?"

"We didn't have one."

" You didn't HAVE one?"

Alicia bursts into laughter. It is  a loud, long and boistrous laugh. Finally, she stops.

"Would you please pass me a tissue so that I can wipe my tears."

"Sure."

"Thanks. Ah, Bobbie. You've just given me the best laugh I've had all month. But before I get giddy...one more time...You married a billionaire....AND....You have NO pre nup?"

"Nope."

"Got $10?"

"Sure."

"Give it to me."

Bobbie gets her purse and gives the money to Alicia.

"Well, Bobbie, you just hired me. And mark my words, $6 million is Child's Play. So, let me break out my laptop and you tell me everything there is to know about Mr. Stefan Cassadine. "
