Sam/Grace/Ivy:
Like their best friends TC and Eve, middle-class Sam and Grace Bennett
appeared to have the perfect marriage. They had met years before, when
Sam saved
Grace from a fire in Boston. The fire left Grace with permanent amnesia.
She and Sam fell in love and moved back to his hometown, Harmony. There,
they
raised three children: Noah, Kay, and Jessica. (Grace's niece Charity
joined them as a teenager, but that's part of another story.)
Sam had a secret of his own, however. He and the rich Ivy Crane had
once been in love! Their secret relationship ended after Ivy's father conspired
with
Alistair Crane to break them up. Ivy had instead married Julian Crane.
On her wedding night, Ivy had overheard Julian and Alistair talking about
how the
marriage was not one of love, and Ivy had ran away. She had then met
up with Sam, and slept with him. Many months later, she gave birth to Ethan--Sam's
son. She passed off the child as Julian's son.
Despite living in Harmony, Ivy never saw Sam. She was often in Europe,
and even when she was in Harmony, she didn't go anywhere that Sam went.
This
changed, however, when Sam became the police chief and visited the
Crane mansion. Her feelings for Sam were reawakened.
Ivy invited the Bennetts and Russells to the Crane mansion for one party
after another, all in the hopes of becoming close to Sam again. Her best
friend and
housekeeper, Pilar Lopez-Fitzgerald, warned her that she was playing
with fire. But she had to have Sam! She even managed to kiss him, when
she got him
under some mistletoe.
The kiss convinced Ivy that she had to have Sam, even if it was just
an affair on the side. She followed Grace and Sam to a ski lodge where
they were having a
romantic getaway. Ivy drugged Grace then exposed herself to Sam, hoping
he would take the bait. He didn't fall her for her tricks, to her disappointment.
Ivy refused to take no for an answer. After getting her hands on photos
of her husband in bed with Eve Russell, Ivy blackmailed Eve, Grace's best
friend, into
helping her. Eve gave in to Ivy's blackmail and set up situations for
Ivy and Sam to spend time together while Grace was kept busy elsewhere.
Ivy decided to tell Sam that Ethan was her son, believing that this
would bring her and Sam together. She nearly drowned after an accident
at the prom she was
chaperoning left her fighting for her life in the ocean. There, somewhat
delirious, she told Sam that Ethan was his son. Later, however, she realized
that Sam
knowing the truth about Ethan would be detrimental to her plans. Ivy
got Eve to help cover it up. Sam fell for Ivy's lie that Ethan wasn't her
son, but Eve now
knew the truth. Because Eve had something on her, Ivy could no longer
blackmail the good doctor.
Months passed, and Ivy still wanted to be with Sam. Meanwhile, the information
about Ethan's paternity was becoming known by many others. (See the
Ethan/Theresa/Gwen story for more details.) At Ethan and Theresa's
engagement party, the truth about Ethan's paternity became known.
Grace, who only hours before had learned she was pregnant, was so stunned
by the news that she fell down the stairs and lost her child. She blasted
Sam for
her lies and didn't wish to take him back. Ivy thought that this was
the chance she had been waiting for, and again tried to seduce Sam. Believing
that Sam
could have feelings for Ivy, Grace insisted that Sam spend time with
Ivy. Despite Ivy's best efforts, however, Sam remained loyal to Grace,
though under the
influence of magic he did kiss Ivy--and Grace saw. All of this was
no match for Sam and Grace's love, though, and the two reconciled.
Ivy gave up on her pursuit of Sam. She was doubly disappointed as she
was served with her divorce papers from Julian. Just as Sam and Grace believed
that
their marriage was safe, though, the mysterious David arrived in Harmony,
with some kind of connection to Grace. David stalked Grace and then carried
her to his room after she fainted upon seeing him. Sam arrested David,
who revealed (first to Grace, then to Sam) that he was Grace’s husband!
Refusing to accept that Grace and David were married, Sam sought proof
that David was a con man. Yet with each attempt, David looks more and more
correct concerning his claims about his past with Grace.
