A Passions Primer: A Must-Read for New Viewers
 

T.C., EVE, and JULIAN / Chad, Whitney, and Simone
TC and Eve appeared at first to be a happily married, upper-middle-class African American couple. He's a high school coach, she's a respected town doctor.

TC has always been a good and loving father. However, he has one fault: he has a killer temper! He gets especially angry around the rich Julian Crane. Years
before, TC and Julian were both up-and-coming local tennis champs. TC dreamed of making it to Wimbledon. However, on the night before a big match
against Julian, TC was run off the road and suffered serious injuries. His tennis career was ended forever because of the permanent injuries he suffered. His
father, who had always believed his son would be a tennis champ, died of a broken heart as a result. TC believed that Julian was responsible, but could never
prove it.

TC was not the only Russell with a connection to Julian Crane. His wife Eve was once Julian's lover! He introduced Eve, who he met while she was singing at
a jazz club, to drugs and just a general wild life. Eve even became pregnant with his child, but her son apparently died at birth. However, there was no way that
Julian's father Alistair was going to allow his son to marry a poor black woman. After Julian and Eve's relationship ended, she met TC and the two fell in love.
He was under the impression that he was the first man in her life, and Eve didn't correct him.

TC and Eve married and had two children: Whitney and Simone. At the start of the series, they were both teens. Whitney is an up-and-coming tennis star just
like her father, while Simone is more of a wild child, like her mother was years before.

Whitney had always promised her father she wouldn't start dating until she became a tennis star. However, everything changed when she met Chad. Raised on
the streets of L.A., Chad had moved from one foster home to another. Recently, he had discovered that his roots could be in Harmony. Chad moved to
Harmony to discover the truth about his past.

Eve didn't like Chad one bit and warned her daughters to stay away from him. While Whitney was okay with this command, her sister Simone had fallen in
love with Chad at first sight and wanted to be with him. Whitney did her best to keep Simone away from Chad.

Despite Whitney's dislike of Chad, she did want to help him find his parents. They discovered an apparently senile man, Orville, who knew something about
his past. However, someone ran him down before he could tell Chad anything--and it appeared that Eve was responsible! She kept him drugged up in the
hospital, while Orville warned Eve to keep Chad away from her daughters.

Eve learned that Orville possessed photos of Julian and herself in bed, and tried to find them in her apartment. Unable to find what she was after, Eve set his
home on fire. She never suspected that a lady had stolen a bird statue, which contained the photos, out of his apartment before Eve's arrival. Later, she learned
that the bird statue could still exist. She did everything in her power to find the statue. Julian's wife Ivy learned about the statue and what it might contain, and
wanted to get the statue too! She ended up with the photos--and used them as blackmail material. (See the Sam/Grace/Ivy story for more details.)

Meanwhile, the sparks continued to go between Chad and Whitney, even though Whitney did everything in her power to keep away from Chad, who had fallen
for her. What they didn't know was that Chad could possibly be the son that Eve thought had died at birth--which would make him both Whitney and Simone's
half-brother!

Kay Bennett warned her best friend Simone that Chad and Whitney had feelings for each other, but Simone refused to see anything between the two. Besides,
Whitney also denied having any feelings for Chad, even though she had kissed him once or twice.

A construction accident nearly killed Whitney, but Chad pushed her out of the way and came close to dying as a result. He refused to go to the hospital, as he
was unable to afford the cost. Instead, he stayed at the Russell home. There, a delirious Chad told Whitney he loved her--or at least that's what he thought he
was doing. Instead, he was speaking to Simone, who thought that Chad was in love with her.

Chad wanted to tell Simone the truth, but Kay didn't want her best friend to know the truth. Instead, she made up several lies to keep Chad from spilling the
beans. However, Chad and Whitney became a couple anyway, though neither said anything to Simone.

Eve wanted to help Chad find his parents, and ran a DNA search at the hospital. Before Chad could learn the truth, Alistair switched the results.
 

Chad and Whitney knew that Simone would have to be told about their relationship. Before they could reveal their relationship, Simone saw them kissing, then
ran off and was hit by a car! Whitney realized that Simone had seen her and Chad kissing, and therefore blamed herself for the accident. She promised a
comatose Simone that she would break it off with Chad if Simone returned to life. Whitney dumped Chad after Simone woke up, and both Chad and Whitney
convinced Simone that she had only been dreaming about their kiss.

TC is still in the dark about his wife's past with Julian, despite many near-misses. On a number of occasions, TC has attempted to kill Julian out of anger, and
Eve knows that TC will become homicidal if he ever uncovers the truth.
