Brayden stepped out of his shower and grabbed a towel wrapping it around
it him he heard his phone ringing.
"Please don’t let that be mom." He moaned looking upward. Walking into
his bedroom he grabbed his phone and took a breath.
"Hello?"
"Brayden, are you coming for supper tonight?" A woman’s voice asked.
Brayden frowned. "I have company mom, I can’t."
"Son, I want to see you. Please tell me you’re not going to be out
with one of those girls that follow you around."
Brayden laughed. "No mom. One of my friends is here, he’s came a long
way and I want to spend time with him."
"Then bring him along. Your father wants to talk to you about something.
And so do I."
"Let me guess, you want to talk me into finding a woman to marry right?"
Brayden complained.
"Well I do want grandchildren. And these women you chase after are
not fit to be the mother of your kids."
Bray raked his hand through his hair. "Mother please not this again.
I’m working hard right now, I have school and my writing and my work
, I have no time for a woman."
"Why don’t you just admit you don’t want a good girl."
"But I do mother, someday just not now."
"Is there anyone in you’re life? Any kind of woman at all?" his mother
quizzed.
"Yes mom, I have met someone, I just didn’t want to tell you about
her." Brayden lied suddenly.
"What? You mean there is someone?" His mom gasped.
Frowning Brayden lied again. "Mom she’s a great girl but I didn’t want
her to met you yet. That’s why I didn’t way anything."
"Well now that I know you must bring her with you tonight. And don’t
you say no."
"But mom." Brayden began.
"No buts. I’ll see you and you’re lady friend tonight." And with that
the phone went dead.
"Great! This is just Great." Brayden sighed.
"Hey Bray, do you have anything for a headache?" Charity said walking
into his bed room. Stopping her eyes landed on his chest. His very muscled
chest.
Bray smiled at Charity looking down at his towel. "Have you got your
eyes full yet?" He laughed.
Charity blinked. "Uh, well, What did I come in here for again?" She
said her facing turning red.
"Headache medicine I believe."
"Yeah so do you have any?" She said trying not to stare at Bray. What
was she thinking looking at a jerk like him that way? He loved it and she
hated herself for it.
"Yeah in my cabinet."
"So do you run around in a towel often?" Charity said chewing her lip.
"Yeah its one of my favorite past times." Bray shot at her.
"I’m sure it is. "
Bray looked at Charity standing in his bedroom, though she had the
attitude like a pit bull, she still had that soft innocent look. "Hey Charity,
what kind of actress are you?" He suddenly said.
"Actress?" She questioned.
"Yeah. Seems I’ve opened my big mouth to my mother, and now she thinks
I have a girlfriend." He frowned.
"So you lied to mommy huh?"
"Yeah. So how would you feel about helping me out?" Bray said forcing
the words from his mouth.
Charity’s eyes lit up. "You mean you need me now?" She smiled. "This
is very interesting, What exactly do you want from me?"
"I need someone to pretend to be my upstanding girl-next-door girlfriend,
and trust me, my mother would warm up to you in a heartbeat."
Charity frowned. "Oh right, the Sweet Charity thing. When is that ever
going to end? I’m not little miss perfect why does everyone look at me
and see that?" She complained.
"Well you do look the part." Bray shrugged. "So are you in? I promise
it won’t be to bad, you just have to pretend to be interested in me."
"One problem. We can’t stand each other." Charity said crossing her
arms. "How do we pull it off?"
"I don’t know but I have to do something. My mother is a very demanding
woman and I can’t say no to her. Look I’ll owe you big. Just help me out
tonight and I promise I’ll try to be nicer to you."
Charity thought for a moment. Bray would owe her, that could be very
fun if she used it to her advantage."
"Okay fine. You have a girlfriend." She grinned. "But only for tonight."
Bray’s smile widen." Thank you so much." He said looking at Charity.
"Now Bray, put some clothes on." Charity said laughing. "You are dating
a angel now remember?" She teased.
"Only for tonight darling. After that we will have a sad breakup."
"Fine by me."
Brayden took a deep breath he had a feeling it was going to be a very
long night.

Theresa held the phone in her hand, waiting, and hoping against all
odds that the man she loved wasn’t who she thought he was.
"Dr. Eve Russell." A voice said into the phone.
"Dr. Russell, this is Theresa." She said weakly her voice quivering.
"Theresa dear how are you? We’ve all be so worried about you." Eve
said.
"I’m doing fine. The reason I called was because I need to ask you
some questions. And I’m not sure if you will want to answer them." Theresa
explained.
"Well I’ll do what I can Theresa. What did you want to know."
Theresa paused for a moment looking for the right words, for any words
to say what she needed to know. "Did you have a relationship with Julian
Crane when you were younger?" She blurted.
Eve remained silent for a moment and then in a bare whisper she spoke.
"How did you know?"
Theresa gasped and felt her body go weak. "So its true?"
"Yes. Yes its true."
Shaking her head Theresa somehow let the next question slowly leave
her mouth. "Did you two have a son together?"
Theresa heard the sound of whimpering as Eve began to speak. "How Theresa?
Who told you?" She asked.
"Did you? Did you and Julian Crane have a son together?" Theresa said
raising her voice.
"Yes Theresa. We had a son together. But he’s dead. He died Theresa
so please leave it alone."
Theresa’s heart dropped at the words. " Dr. Russell go talk to Julian
about you’re son. Ask him what really happened to him." Theresa said hanging
up the phone.
"He’s a Crane? Chad is really a Crane?" Theresa whispered falling on
her couch in a mass of tears.
