Dangerous Liasons, Chapter 4 (If You Don't Like It, Deal With
It)

Chapter 4
Jared scanned the threesome as they tried to grasp what he said. He turned
quickly as he heard footsteps approach it was Ethan and Gwen.
“Who are you? Ethan asked.
Jared reiterated what he said the others.
“I am here to protect Mrs. Crane and her son; since they are the primary
beneficiaries. However, my boss does not want to draw too much attention
to him. He also does not want to let on that we know more than they think
we do. There will be others after me but for now I am it.” Jared continued.
“What about my wife and daughter?” Ethan fumed.
“I have my orders. Last I checked they did not come from you.” Julian walked
in. He gave Jared a knowing look meaning they would need to talk.
“Can someone else give my life story? I am not up for it.” He walked over
to Theresa.
“Where is your son?” She stared at him.
“With my mama. She has to be protected to Jared. What about the rest of
my family?” Her eyes welled.
“I can understand your concern. Right now it is safer for them not to be
here or around you. Because your son is there and your mom is of minimal
threat right now; I will have someone there. However, he stays there at all
times. She must understand that. This person will have to be undercover.
I am thinking of one but we will not discuss that right now.” Jared added.
Julian was finally able to get Jared alone.
“They have Eve.” His voice was sullen. “Don’t look at me as if you are
clueless. Who do you think hired you? Why do you think I hired you?” Jared
shrugged.
“Arrabelle.” He whispered.
“We want the same thing Jared. Revenge, but I like your cover.” Jared could
not help but respect his maneuver.
“And the old man?” Jared asked.
“He had me hire someone. He tends to be faceless most of the time. About
Eve?”
“I will put my best men on it. We will find her but you will go on the
mission. I need to be here.” Jared asserted.
“You are in cahoots with Julian.” Theresa accused.
“He is a Crane. I am protecting the Cranes. You married the most sinister
of all. You have no right to judge this one. You may not like it but you
will have to deal with it?” He asserted. She hated him already.
Theresa was appalled at the fact this stranger came into her home judging
her. He made his snide remarks but that wasn’t the worst of it. The worst
was the way he looked at her. He looked at her with disgust. Theresa was
unsure of the reason it bothered her so. It was as if the handsome stranger
could look into her soul. Could he see all of the things that she was unwilling
to admit, even to herself? There was a better way she realized later. She
sold her soul to Alistair. Maybe she could reclaim her soul but she still
had the memories. She still had to live with the choices she has made. Especially
the choice forced upon her son who did not have any say. She still had to
face her husband whom she hated. She went for the brandy but thought against
it. It was just too Crane like.
“Since I am here.” Jared spoke up. “It is safer for every one to remain
on the grounds. If you choose to venture outside of the grounds you do so
at your own risk. I am familiar with the grounds so I won’t be needing a tour.
Ethan I am glad that you are here. I have questions for anyone who played
a significant role in managing Crane Industries.” Jared approached both Ethan
and Gwen.
“If you don’t mind I’d like to meet with each of you individually in the
study.”
Ethan heard the words and wanted to do what he could to help but his mind
was still on Jared’s side bar with Julian.
“Ethan I need a minute but if we could meet in thirty minutes it would
be really helpful.” He went out the front door and back to his van. Where
he made a call.
“Is there something that I need to know?” He asked the receiver.
“Oh really. It appears that one lovely doctor has gone missing. I told
you not to move on anyone without my command. I will not have anyone screwing
this up for me. Besides Julian is just a pawn.” He listened.
“Don’t worry about Mrs. Crane. I have that under control.” Jared said before
hanging up.
