Matt can't believe that she's actually gone! He stops and tries to think for a moment.

"What would make her do something like this?" He hasn't a clue. He thinks he might know someone who would. He sits in Monica Quartermaine's office.

"Hello Dr. Harmon. How may I help you?" Matt looks deadly serious.

"Have you seen Ellen today?" Monica looks at him curiously.

"Of course I've seen her. You know that I'm the one who would have to approve her extended leave." He can't believe his ears.

"Did she give any indication of where she was going? This is very important!" Monica is worried now.

"I thought that you two were going on some kind of getaway." Matt is really worried too!

"I know that this is short notice, but I'd like to take my leave also starting tomorrow. I have some time coming and I need to take a week to get this straight." She knows that he's leaving one way or another.

"Sure thing. Effective tommorrow, you are on a week's vacation. I hope that you find her and everything works out."

Matt leaves her office and goes home. He finds himself being haunted by memories of Ellen. He sees a picture that they took on a picnic. Ellen is seating on his lap with his arms around her waist. Her head is against his chest and the smiles on their faces let the world know that they were in love! Now the picture was a cruel reminder of a time gone by. His smile has now become
a frown, for his sunshine is nowhere to be seen. He is angry at her for not trusting the power of their love to overcome whatever it is that made her leave him.

"If she had only trusted me enough to tell me what's wrong! I could have made it right or I'd die trying!" He is so hurt that he tries to sleep, but he instead lies awake for hours before sleep engulfs him. When he awakens the next day, it's late! It's 4:00 p.m. and he rushes out. He knocks and someone calls out

"Coming!" The door is opened.

"Hello Matt. What brings you to this neck of the woods?" Alice replies with a smile. She knows why he's here.

"Alice, tell me where Ellen has gone. I know that she would never leave without you knowing about it. Please! She left me and wouldn't say why! That isn't good enough! Alice I need to know!"

Matt is begging! He's at his wits end!
