Subj: Mr. Immigration Man-Chapter 9

"Oh."

" Yes, I was the one who erased Lucas' message to Nikolas. Because of me, a six-year old boy may die."

" Stefan, you could not have known.."

" Known what? The logic of a child? How so many things can go wrong with them in an instant? Yes, Alexis, I SHOULD have known."

" You had your reasons."

" Yes. I wanted to protect Nikolas from being infected by a child. An excellent reason."

" Stefan. You can no more predict a child's actions and thinking than you can anyone else. You are doing all you can to help Bobbie and Lucas. You know that, don't you?"

" Yes. NOW, I am doing all that I can. It does not absolve me from my responsibility in this."

" You were protecting Nikolas. That is what your motive was. And you cannot stray from that, not at all. It is all our priority. Always has been, always will. Now, you contact this Dr. Gruber, bring him to Port Charles, and they will find a way to help Lucas."

" I did not think you were such an optimist, Alexis."

" I'm not. But I don't think, in the grand scheme of things, that a person has to sacrifice more than one child to the Gods. And Bobbie's already done her part. The Greco-Russian pragmatic tells me that inexplicable things happen. But the depth of cruelty in stripping a woman of all her children is a bit much, even for me."

" I need to think. I am going to ride to General Hospital to check on Lucas. I don't know if I will be home for dinner. I do need to go to the study and take care of some work first, though."

" That's alright. I CAN fend for myself. I will see if Nikolas could join me."

"Goodbye." (kisses Alexis)

Stefan leaves Alexis and goes into his personal study. Out of the safe, he takes a computer disk. Stefan had not told Alexis about the new virus. He wanted to test it himself before burdening her with its existance. So far, the tests had proved quite successful. It was more powerful and effective than the last one, but still it was not completely proven. It had proven its usefullness with Ms. Jones, though. Stefan assumed from Felicia's tone and demeanor that she would not just settle for sparring with Stefan in the hospital. No, Ms. Jones was a woman of action. And the only one that she could even think of bringing in order to stop his renewed closeness with Bobbie is Luke. And surely, Ms. Jones had activated a search for the Spencers. But due to the virus, it appears as if the Spencers have vanished within Europe. And the deeper the search went for the Spencers, the less that Felicia would be able to hover around Barbara. Stefan was grateful to the virus that it also allowed him the chance to keep an eye on that "peasant". Stefan made sure that the daily purchases of the Spencers were erased, and then made his way to General Hospital.

Mac is tending bar at the Outback when Felicia comes in.

" I need several Pitas to go."

" Still hovering at the hospital?"

" Yes."

" How's Lucas?"

" No change. I don't know how much more of this Bobbie can take. I got an email from your friends in Europe."

" And?"

" Nothing of the Spencers besides one receipt a couple of days after they started in a small town in Germany. So, I guess we'll start there."

" When are we leaving, Pardner?"

" Tomorrow evening. I took the plane fare money out of the petty cash...Sorry."

" When I checked and it was gone, I sort-of thought you did..That's why I called the airline and upgraded us to business-class. I will NOT spend 8 hours scrunched like a sardine."

" Mac, you're a doll."

" So folks keep telling me. Break out that passport...Europe, here we come!"

" Do you think we can find them?"

" I doubt that Luke, Laura Lesley and Lulu blend in anywhere. I just got this feelin'...."

" You're right....as always...and if you tell anyone that I admitted that, I will have plausible deniability.."

" Here's your food. Go back to GH and hover some more. And tell Bobbie and Tony that they're in my thoughts."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bobbie and Tony had been by Lucas' side for hours, neither one moving. Carly had come in and talked to Tony. Bobbie did not move and was oblivious to their entire conversation. It was wearing on Bobbie. None of the treatments had worked. None at all. Modern Science was throwing strike after strike and nothing was helping.
Tony's beeper went off.
" I have to go and check this out. It was one of my last patients before...."
" Go ahead. We'll be right here."
Bobbie looked at her watch. The nurses would be in to give Lucas his treatments soon. She could not watch anymore as they poke and prod him. Strange, she is a nurse, has done the same procedures over and over again throughout the years, and yet, with her child, it becomes unbearable. During these times, it was her new routine to slip out and go to the chapel. They took no longer than 15 minutes. So she would return at almost the end. Bobbie took her leave and went into the chapel to pray.
" I don't know why I come here anymore. I don't know why I am here. You KNOW what I want. I doubt I can be any more clear. I guess I come to see if BJ will help her little brother. And to be alone."
As Bobbie knelt, she heard a "Code Blue" being done over the intercom.
" Oh my GOD. That's Lucas!"
Bobbie and Tony arrived at the same time. Dr. Shapiro comes out.
" I was coming to find you."
" What is it? What is wrong with Lucas."
" He's been fighting a good fight Bobbie, Tony, but sometimes those little bodies just cannot handle it anymore."
" NO...NO...."
" Is he?"
"Gone? No, not yet.....but I'd say it was only a matter of hours. I AM sorry....so very sorry."
The words kept running over and over in Bobbie's mind. "It's only a matter of hours.." She turned from Tony and began walking, like a zombie, not cognizant of anything or anyone. She did not respond to Stefan's question. She acted as if he were not even there. And he wasn't. For, she was on a death march.
