The Jazz Club-Chapter Four
It had been one month. One wild month since she had started this little
relationship with Julian. And she would be lying if she said she didn't
enjoy it, because she did. And if she could have continued this forever,
she just might have done that, but she knew she had to end it. Because
Julian couldn't give her the one thing she desired most in this world;
a family.
However, not just any family. A family that loved eachother, one that
would stick together in good times and bad, no matter what. The family
she never had growing up. Eve was determined to make her family dream a
reality. But everytime she tried to end it, he wouldn't let her and she
somehow found herself giving in to him every time. One time, she tried
to exact opposite of breaking it off; asking him to marry her. She may
not have loved him, but she needed to get married to Julian. For one very
important reason.
"Marry you? Eve you know I can't do that. My family would never approve."
"But Julian, I need a family. I want a family and if you can't provide
that then we need to end this now."
Julian panicked. He would not end this now. In the beginning of this
relationship, he had planned to end it after a couple days. But he had
grown fond of Eve, and wouldn't let her go.
He walked around back of Eve and whispered in her ear. "You know you
don't want to end this. Don't do it Eve, you'll regret it."
Eve felt his breath tickling her ear, and she lost her senses. She
turned around and said, "You're right, I don't want to end this. And I
won't."
Why did she do it to herself? Why did she bend herself to his every
want? Every time she gave in just made it harder the next couple times.
Once, he even took her to Bermuda to convince her to stay with him.
"Julian, are you sure we should have come here? Maybe we should just
go back."
"Why would we go back? The view is astonishing, the breeze is cool,
and there is no where else I would rather be than Bermuda." He leaned in
and gave Eve a gentle kiss.
'I shouldn't have let him take me here.' Eve thought. But there was
nothing she could do.
Why had she been thinking about family all the sudden? Why did she
need Julian to marry her?
Because, she was pregnant.
Eve went into the bathroom and picked up the object that would determine
her life forever.
Her head filled with conflicting thoughts. One part of her said, 'Please
be negative, please be negative.' The other side said 'You want a baby,
wouldn't it be nice to have a family, a little bundle of joy?'
Eve closed her eyes for a second before re-opening them and looked
at the results.
Positive.
At first, she hadn't believed the results and went to the doctor, who
confirmed it.
She scolded herself for being so careless. "We should have used protection.
This baby would be nothing but a troublesome, bastard child."
But even as she said these words, she knew that she would love this
baby forever. And tonight, in her last useless attempt to get Julian to
marry her, she was going to tell him about the baby. Their baby.

Julian sat in his hotel and glanced over at the clock. 5:30pm. In a
little bit he would be heading to the Jazz Club, meet Eve, and do what
they did almost everyday. Unlike Eve, Julian was perfectly content with
the relationship they had now. He didn't want anything to change. But he
knew Eve did, and he just couldn't give her what she wanted. What worried
Julian most was the thought that she might get strong enough to pull away
from him. He knew the only reason she was with him was because she was
weak, but that wouldn't last long. Sure, he could do something to momentously
lower her self-asteem, but he couldn't do that to Eve. He may not love
her, but he did care about her.

Alastiar Crane sat in his office at the Crane mansion, talking on the
speaker phone.
"So, Crane, is it all set?"
"Of course Governor Winthrop," he said with a cold grin, "The church
is reserved, the wedding dress bought, all we need to do is tell the bride
and the groom that they're getting married."
"Good. When will Julian arrive in Harmony?"
"Tomorrow morning. He's currently in Boston, but he WILL be here in
time. Goodbye, Governor."
Alastiar clicked the end button and walked over to the decanter of
brandy. He slowly pured himself a glass and took a sip.
"Yes, everything is set. All I have to do now is get Julian down here,
and get that tramp Eve to keep her mouth shut about that damn child. No
one can ever know about the mess I'm going to have to clean up for Julian."
He went back over to his chair and pressed the power button on the
phone, and made one of the two phone calls he had to make that night.

As Eve was about to get ready to go for her regular night of singing
at the Jazz Club, the phone rang.
She went over to the phone and picked it up. "Hello?"
"Hello, Eve," the harsh voice said on the other end of the line.
"Who is this?" Eve replied, frightened of the intimidating voice.
"Alastair Crane."
