Simone's New Start ~Chapter 12 ~Doctor, Doctor~
by Mademoiselle Butterfly
Chapter Twelve
In our vision is a small figure, becoming clearer in view. What we lay
our sights upon is a small snow globe as a delicate hand picks it up
and shakes it. Making all the contents inside jitter all about the
person holding the globe soon comes into picture as well. It was
Whitney Russell. She sat in her bedroom on this late October night
dreaming of the simple things such as snow. She remembered when she had
received the snow globe in her possession. Once when she was younger,
her whole family went on a family trip to Grand Canyon. It was a fun
trip she thought, she missed those trips together many of them her
family shared with the Bennett family. It was happier times, she
thought to herself dressed in her satiny pajamas. The simpler times and
days of her precious childhood she remembered, it made her smile.
She sat on the edge of her bed daydreaming about better times, twirling
around her ringlet curls in between her fingers. Soon, there was a
knock on her bedroom door.
“Come in,” she replied softly.
“Hey, Princess.” TC said entering.
“Oh, hi Daddy.” Whitney said looking up.
“Um, I just wanted to remind you about tomorrow’s afternoon practice.”
“Three pm sharp alright.” He says.
“Oh, okay.” Whitney replies still looking at the globe.
“Whit, what’s wrong sweetie?” TC asked seeing her face.
“Oh, nothing.” “Nothing at all.” Whitney said with a weak smile putting
the globe down.
“You sure, Whit.” TC said concerned.
“Yeah, Daddy.” “I’m fine.” Whitney said not wanting him to worry about
her.
“Okay.” “Goodnight, sweetheart.” TC said as he gingerly planted a kiss
on her forehead before he left the room.
“Night, Daddy.”
After her father left, Whitney turned her attention back towards the
globe. She really missed the simpler times of her childhood. Things
were so different then, her family was whole and everyone was happy but
with one exception. She didn’t have Chad in her heart then to influence
her world with beautiful music and love. Her thoughts then went to him
and how he was doing in Los Angeles. She picked up a picture of the two
of them during the summer from her nightstand.
He looked so good, she thought all tanned, with his little five
o’clock shadow goatee and bright eyes. She held the picture closely to
her heart, wondering how he was; she reached over for her headphones
and cd player. She turned it to the play button playing his cd he made
for her before he left. She listened closely to the music notes he
produced in his studio; he was very talented and very special. Quietly
she mouthed the words to the song, entranced in a sweet memory, she
missed him badly, wanting to be with him at every second. She then
remembered how her parents had made them separate for six months so she
could finish her time in school and hopefully forget about him as he
went off to LA to pursue a career in music.
But Whitney’s feelings didn’t change, she still loved Chad and couldn’t
wait to see him after their six month split was up. Yet, she had to
admit she didn’t worry too much about being away from him for so long.
She had her friends to keep her busy, Theresa always by her side. As
her best friend it was in her job description to be there for her no
matter what and now another good friend entered the picture. And a
Crane of all people, Fox Crane to be exact, the son of Ivy and Julian,
one of the wealthiest families in Harmony. Over the past months, since
his return to Harmony Fox had become a great friend to Whitney. He was
always around when she needed him for little things here and there; she
thought he was really sweet. And of course he was very handsome with
princely good looks and sexy spiky blonde hair, deep hazel eyes and a
kind, sweet smile that was the exclusive Fox Crane. Soon, the phone
begins to ring and speak of the devil it was no other than he.
“Hi, Fox.” Whitney said laughing to herself.
“I was just thinking about you.” She admits with a smile.
“Oh, really then my ears should be burning.” Fox smoothly replies.

Now, tonight we venture back towards the Harmony University
dorms, there Simone had just entered her darken dorm room. She walked
in and flipped on a small table lamp, glancing around her eyes laid on
a quietly sleeping Kay. She walked over to her friend kneeling down to
whisper in her ear. “Hey, Kay.”
“Kay.” “Kay.” She whispered again.
Kay turned, stirring in her sleep. “Miguel?” she replied sleepily.
“Kay, its me.” “Wake up.” Simone said.
“Simone?” Kay asked opening her eyes.
“Yes, silly.” “I’m home.” Simone told her walking over to her closet.
Kay wipes her tired eyes, as Simone puts away her winter coat showing
off her beautiful indian inspired gray silvery dress she wore from her
mysterious blind date.
Kay fixes her pillows back against her head, running her fingers
through her reddish-brown hair; she yawns deeply and asks, “So, how was
the date?”
Simone glanced at her sitted on her bed taking off her dress shoes. “It
was okay.” She replied.
“Really.” “What happened?” Kay asked yawning again.
“Not that much, really.” “We went to dinner at Marcel’s and talked.”
“He asked me about school and stuff.”
“So, were you still nervous?” Kay asked sitting up.
“Yes, and too much Kay.” “I was so nervous that after a while I
actually found myself talking about my problems with Whitney and Chad.”
Simone admits.
“What, why?” Kay asked surprised.
“I. .I don’t know, I just did.” “I have no explanation for it.” Simone
said taking off her earrings.
“Well, what did he say about it?” Kay questioned.
Simone took a deep breath. “Well, I didn’t go into any details of
course or use names.”
“But, um he just understood, everything.” “Which was really nice.” “He
told me that I was busy protecting my heart right now.” “And I guess
he’s right, I am.” Simone continued slipping off her stockings.
“So, let me get this straight you were venting about Chad on your first
date, Simone?” Kay asked baffled.
“Yeah, so.”
“So, Simone that’s the first rule of dating never talk about past
relationships.” “Especially on first dates.” Kay told her with a heavy
sigh.
“Well, I didn’t know that and Drew didn’t seem to mine.” She replied
softly.
“Whatever.” Kay replied rolling here eyes and shaking her head. “So,
the date was good then.”
“Yeah, it was.” Simone replies getting out her pajamas.
“Wow, so your parents actually picked out a good one then.” Kay told
her stretching her arms.
“Yeah, as scary as it was having them set me up.” “They really did, he
was kind, sweet, funny.”
“And becoming a Doctor which they probably love.” Kay comments.
“Uh, huh that too.” “Hey, I brought you back some cheesecake.” Simone
said placing the plastic carton in their small mini fridge.
“Thanks.”
“You’re welcome.”
“So, are you going to see him again?” Kay asked suddenly.
“I might, maybe.” Simone replied with a shrug walking towards the
bathroom.
“When?” “Like tomorrow night perhaps?” Kay questioned on excited.
“Kay.” Simone said shyly, peeking her head out from the bathroom door
with a toothbrush in hand.
“Well, Simone tell me?” Kay demanded. “Is Mr. Drew Future M.D. worth
seeing again or not?”
A couple of seconds pass, while Kay awaited her answer, Simone soon
returned into the room. Fully dressed for bed in her nightgown, with
her hair up in a bow and all of her makeup removed. She walked over to
the closet placing her dress on a hanger. “You know, what Kay.” She
starts. “I really don’t know about seeing Drew again.” “I mean, he was
very sweet and kind but my parents picked him out for me, you know.”
“That’s a lot to deal with.” Simone states sitting on her bed.
“Yeah, I know.” “I was here for the cookie meltdown remember?” Kay said.
“Yes, so who knows really what might happen down the line.”
“Simone, why are you worried about that?” Kay asked.
“I don’t know Kay, I feel like I have to be.” “I just can’t afford to
make the same types of mistakes I made dealing with Chad.” She said
lowly looking down at her fingernails.
“Simone, come on this guy isn’t Chad alright.” Kay told her. “He’s not
some loser that’s going to blow you off for her sister, try and give
him a chance okay.”
“But, Kay.” Simone whines.
“But, nothing look you’re my best friend alright.” “And I say that you
deserve some happiness.” “So, just go with the flow, and give Drew a
chance.” Kay demanded.
Simone listened and thought about it. “You’re right.” She says.
“I know I am.” Kay said folding up her arms.
“Yeah, but I’m definitely not going on another date with him tomorrow.”
She protested.
“Why not?” Kay asked.
“I have to work, I’m scheduled for a eleven to eight shift tomorrow.”
Simone told her.
“Oh, right.” Kay remembered thinking about Simone’s part time job at
the local mall.
“But, I just might see Drew again one day.”
“Good.”
“Well I’m tired.” “Night, Kay.” Simone said slipping into bed and
shutting off her bedroom desk light.
“Night.” Kay replied as darkness fell upon the room. . .
~~***~~~**~~***~~~**~~***~~~**~~***~~~
It’s late Sunday evening, as the Carrington family just finished
another family dinner together at the old Carrington estate where
Lane’s father, Edward resided. The dinner was as pleasant as it could
be with Julia and Edward arguing over politics and the world’s trade
system. Trying their best not to show the undertones of just how much
they really disliked one another. Yet, one bright side to the gathering
was that Edward seemed impressed at his granddaughter’s accomplishments
getting into the training program at the hospital. Everyone said their
goodbyes and until next Sunday they’d enjoy another family get together.
Monday morning, Blair’s first day of training at Harmony’s
hospital. She arrived early, wanting to be prompt. She hoped to make a
good impression on her assigned trainer as much as her grandfather. It
was terribly important that all of her training went well, Blair being
a Carrington she always had to be the best and excel otherwise her
family’s reputation would continue to carry the weight from the past.
See, the real person behind Blair’s mask of elitist values was a truly
sensitive person with complex emotions, true intelligence and growing
compassion for family and friends. She did not always want to be
defined by who her parents were or her family name.
One of her biggest assets was her intelligence. She was a classic
modern day version of women who give out the vibe to the world that
there just a pretty face but not only was Blair beautiful and witty she
was truly smart. In school at one of New York’s most prestige colleges
she was the top of her class out ranking some of the most determined
young men in the entire school. Having so much determination ran in her
genes and excelling in her studies lead her to medical school a
semester earlier than expected. Blair was determined to have a real
career and not always have to look towards her family or a man to keep
her in the finer things of life, the lifestyle to which she was use to
and grew to love as a symbol of real reality. So, deep down Blair had
her own agenda and reasons for being there.
At the moment, she was seen in a waist length light gray jacket and
matching top with a knee length dark charcoal gray skirt and five
hundred dollar Manolo Blahnik shoes. With her long dark raven hair
pulled back into a tight ponytail, she met her prospective trainer at
the nurses’ station. “Hi, I’m Blair Carrington.” she states showing off
her lustrous bright chestnut colored eyes. The person turns around, it
was no other than the lovely Eve Russell standing before her. With a
sweet smile, Eve then introduces herself too. Saying things like “Nice,
to meet you!” The two then got to work Eve gave her a tour of all the
sights of the hospital and soon she began to evaluate her performance
with patients and as well as checking out Blair’s credinals thus far.
After a while of overlooking Blair’s performance Eve noticed that she
was definitely meant for the medical profession but there was just one
problem, her attitude towards patients in the hospital. Blair
really needed to work on her tolerance of the patients’ issues, she was
too impatient Eve noted. Work wise she was an impedable sight but
engaging in contact with the patients was not her strong point by any
means. Soon, pulling Blair over to the side Eve suggests that she work
on her people skills, but Blair just responds in a no care attitude
saying, “But a Doctor’s time is precious, that’s all.” Eve looks for a
long time after that and then states that if she doesn’t have to
patience to work with the patients on a much kinder and gentler level
then just maybe she should work with another trainer of hospital’s
staff or possibly rethink the medical profession all together. They
both stood by the nurses’ station, talking over her performance.
Blair stands there in shock reacting, “What?” she says softly. “But I
can’t.”
“Well, maybe you should rethink your position here.” Eve states.
“But, Dr. Russell I just can’t start over and go back to the beginning.”
“Well, I think that you need better training skills, Ms. Carrington.”
Eve replied.
“And I’m going to request to Dr. Weaver that you do just that.”
“No!” “Please, I deserve to be here.” “Look, I know medience, I live
it!” Blair begs.
“Well, I’m sorry but that just is not enough to say that you really
belong here.” Eve told her.
“You just don’t understand, Dr. Russell.” “I’ve come this far and I
can’t go back.”
“I want to be a doctor, no I deserve to be a doctor!” she shouts.
“Now, could you please reconsider, please?” “Okay, look I know that I
need work but that’s why I’m here right to work on my faults.” Blair
continued.
Eve looked at her intently trying to figure out if she was really being
sincere.
“Just say you’ll help me, please?” “I need to be here, I really do.”
Blair said sincerely.
“Please, you have to understand that I come from a family, where you’re
either a doctor or lawyer!” “And I chose being a doctor, I’m good at
what I do.” “So, please give me a second chance don’t turn me away on
my first day.” She continues.
“I don’t know Blair, you’re going to need a lot of work.” Eve states.
“I know, but Dr. Russell everyone deserves a second chance right.” “I
mean, haven’t you ever been in a situation where you needed to be given
another chance, well I’m just asking for that as well.” Blair said.
Eve thought for moment, about her checker youth and past mistakes.
“Okay,” she said softly. “I’ll work with you, but you’re going to have
to put some effort into this and handle your attitude alright.”
“Yes, and thank you.” Blair said happily.
“Okay, now you can go on your lunch break.” Eve replied. “I’ll see you
when you get back.”
“Okay, and thank you again Dr. Russell.” “I won’t let you down I
promise, I belong here.” Blair says before leaving.
After chatting with Blair, Eve went into her office. Soon approaching
her desk and flops down in her chair what a busy day she thought. Just
then there was a light knock on her office door, Eve looks up only to
see, the handsome Julian Crane quietly sneak in the door.
“Julian,” Eve says in a soft tone.
“Hello, Eve.” Julian says with a warm smile.
“What are you doing here?” “Did anyone see you come in?” she asked
worried.
“No, they didn’t I made sure.” “Sorry for stopping by like this
unannounced.” “I was just in the area after a board meeting and I
couldn’t help myself wanting to see you.” “I hope that’s all right.” He
said.
“Oh,” Eve said softly. “Well, that was very kind of you to check on me.”
“So, how are you?” he asks.
“I’m doing fine.” Eve says getting up from her seat.
“Oh, sorry you’re busy.” “I should probably leave.” Julian says turning
around.
“No, Julian wait!” Eve said springing towards him. “Please, stay.” “I
would really like to see a kind face lately.”
“Oh, really.” “Well, is something wrong?” he asks.
“No, well not really.” Eve states. “I mean, TC and the girls are fine.”
“I have nothing really to complain about but. .”
“You’re still worried about your sorted past coming out aren’t you?”
Julian said finishing her statement.
“A little.” Eve admits cradling her arms.
“Oh, Eve how many times have I told you that your past with me
shouldn’t be a issue any longer.” “There’s only happiness ahead for
you, my love.”
“I know Julian, yet it just seems that no matter what I do.” “It’s
always going to be there just hanging over my head.” “No matter how
much I’ve changed completely inside and out.” “Its there just taunting
me.” Eve confesses.
“Oh, Eve.” Julian says moving closer to her.
“Julian.” Eve said trying to muffle tears that formed in her eyes.
“Oh, and to make matters worse.” “I ran into Liz Sandboure the other
day.”
“Yes.” Julian says handing her a handkerchief.
“Well, she threaten me Julian.” “To reveal my past, you and steal away
my entire family.” Eve states.
“Oh, Eve you know that that woman is no threat to you or your family.”
“I know, but I can’t help not wondering if she means it.” “Julian you
know, that she still blames me for her husband death.” Eve tells him.
“What?” “Eve that was years ago, she’s still living in the past.”
Julian says.
“Yes, but it’s not only her past I’m worried about, it’s the past you
and I share too.” Eve said softly.
“Well, don’t worry about Liz’s threats.” “She doesn’t have to power to
go along with them.” Julian told her.
“Well, I think she does Julian.” “She wants to destroy me and you.”
“She just loathes you.” Eve says.
“As most people, in this town do.” “No, Eve I’m not worried about Liz
and you shouldn’t be either.” “Look, I’ll handle her and you.” “In the
meantime Eve, well you just be happy.” “That’s all I want.” Julian says
softly.
“I know.” She said quietly wondering to herself.
Silence filled the room, while the two sat on Eve’s couch. After a
while Julian finally starts up the conversation again. “Eve, did I tell
you that I saw Lane recently.” he states.
“What, you saw Lane?” Eve responds surprised coming out of her daze.
“Yes.” “He’s back here in Harmony.” Julian announces.
“Julian, that’s. .that’s unreal.” Eve stutters.
“I know, but I saw him with my own eyes, Eve.” He assures her.
“How is he?” she asks flipping her hair over her ear.
“Doing well, for himself and his family.”
“Family?” “He has a family?” she asks turning.
“Yes, he’s also running a local gallery here in town.” Julian tells her.
“Oh.” “Well, that’s wonderful to hear.” “I always knew he would have a
family.” Eve replied nodding her head.
“Yes.”
“I missed Lane.” “I haven’t thought about him in years though.” Eve
admitted.
“I know.” “Me, either but he’s back.” Julian says.
“That’s unbelievable, Julian.” “It really is.” Eve said with a smile.
“Good, I wasn’t to sure about telling you of his reappearance in town.”
“What, why not?” Eve questions.
“Well, I didn’t know how you’d react.” “It’s been so long since we both
last encountered Lane and everything that went into his disappearance
in the first place.” “I just thought. .”
“Oh, Julian don’t be silly.” “Lane’s always been a perfect gentleman,
you know that.” Eve states. “Actually he was one of the decent friends,
you had back then.”
“Yes, he was given that he and I had almost identical upbringings.”
“Well, Lane’s always been special.”
“As are you, Eve.” Julian said caressing her cheek.
Eve lowers her head, “Julian, please.” “How special can I be lying to
my entire family, trying to portray something so opposite of who I
really am or was.”
“Well, Eve you’ve come a long way from then.” “Remember that.” Julian
tells her.
“I do, it’s just that when someone like Liz Sandboure comes along
threatening to expose me.” “I’m just snapped back to reality of what I
really was.” Eve said lowly.
“Don’t fret, Eve.” “I’m here for you, always.” Julian assured her.
“Oh, Julian.” “You’re always to kind to me, thank you.” “You listen to
me, and sometimes I think that’s all I really need is to be heard.” “To
have someone to talk to openly about my past.” “It makes a difference.”
Eve said wiping her eyes.
“Well, I’m glad that I can be of some assistance to you.” “Now, do you
feel any better?” he asks caressing her face with his hand.
“Yes, I do.” “And you’re right, I have to be strong now.” “I’m not
going to let Liz destroy my family, not with all that I’ve been through
and sacrificed for them.”
“My sweet brave, Eve.” Julian says softly.
“I’m not brave Julian, by any means.” Eve states with a small smile.
“Oh, yes you are.” “You’re not giving up on your family, that’s
courageous.”
Eve laughed slightly. “Well, after the mess that Liz’s nephew Chad
caused.” “A rift, so huge that my family is just starting to get over,
I’m not going to stand by and let Liz continue to tear us apart.”
“How is your family, Eve?” Julian asked. “I know you were upset before
about Simone and Whitney’s not speaking.”
“Yes, well that sadly hasn’t changed yet.” “The girls are still not
speaking and Simone she seems to be changing before all of our eyes.”
“She’s still at the dorms and hopefully growing more mature.” Eve said.
“Well, how’s TC handling the girls split?”
“Not well, he even wanted to force Simone to come back home to fix
things.” “But we decided against it, seeing how headstrong she can be.”
“But were working on it, as a family.” “Somehow, my daughters will
reunite, I’ll make sure of that.” Eve says with a heavy sigh.
“Well, I’m sure you will.” Julian said with a smile.
“I don’t know, if only I could get the girls to air out their
differences maybe then things would be better.” Eve states.
“Well, why don’t you make them sit down face to face to air out their
bad blood?” Julian told her.
Eve ponders his suggestion a bit and then says, “You know, what
Julian.” “That’s a wonderful idea, yes that way they’ll get past
everything.” “Maybe, even grow closer with all this time apart.” “Yes,
that’s what I’m going to do, oh thank you Julian!” Eve says as she
reaches over and kisses him.
The kiss they shared was deep and passionate. The flames of they’re
heated past still united, slowly Eve pulled away becoming aware of her
actions.
“Oh, Julian.” “I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I. .” she states.
“Don’t be Eve.” he said staring at her deeply with intense eyes.
“Well, I guess I’ll be leaving now.” “I’ll see you at the next board
meeting, then.” Julian said turning to leave.
“Okay,” Eve says softly with her hand cradled on her lips.
She watched him leave; she sat there pondering deep thoughts, trying to
deny her feelings. What Eve felt at that moment was a feeling of bliss,
like when she and Julian first met back at the Blue Note when they were
younger. As they fell deeply in love without a care in the world, into
a world of unseen truths, futures, loses and moody, passionate and raw
music. That life, and that deep connection that she and Julian shared
had died a long time ago Eve felt right along with the death of her
precious little baby boy. But right now at the moment, she had to deny
these feelings that arose in her soul. “It’s a different time and a
different place,” she kept telling herself or so she thought . . .
