Chapter 56-A Time to Smile
"Engaged!" Pilar beamed jumping up from her seat rushing over to give
Theresa a huge hug.
"Dude, I gotta say, you did me proud." Justin laughed hugging his brother
before quickly pulling away. "Um, we can forget about that little moment
right?"
Chad smirked. "I’m afraid not brother, that hug goes in the books."
Justin looked over at Theresa with a teasing smile. "Now you, I can
hug." He laughed wrapping his arms around Theresa.
"Time to let go little bro." Chad warned teasingly.
Miguel walked over to his sister. "Marriage huh? You ready for that?"
He questioned looking at her.
"Totally." She smiled.
"Its a big step, I mean huge." Miguel went on. "And once you do it,
there’s no turning back."
"Miguel, I’m ready." Theresa told her brother. "I know what I’m doing
this time."
Miguel smiled. "Just making sure." He informed her.
"That’s what your here for." She teased as he wrapped his arms around
her.
"Luis would be proud." He whispered in her ear. "You’ve finally made
it."
"You think so?" She whispered back.
"I know so." Miguel nodded smiling at his sister. "He’s your Sheridan."
He winked.
Luis Lopez-Fitzgerald kissed his wife wrapping his arms around her
waist. "You’re everything a man could dream about." He cooed.
"Oh Luis, I never thought I could be this happy, its like everything
I gave up on, was given to me anyway."
Miguel rolled his eyes, "Think we’ll ever find something like that?"
He questioned as Theresa shook her head.
"A love to last a life time? Not me little brother, not after what
Ethan did." She frowned watching her brother look over at his small daughter.
"The perfect life, that’s what we have here baby." He told Sheridan.
"Perfect, that describes it doesn’t it?" Sheridan smiled. "Perfect."
Miguel moved from where he was standing, "I want that, honestly
Resa, I want a love like that."
Theresa smiled. "It would be nice wouldn’t it? To find someone that
completed you?"
"You two talking about us?" Luis questioned seeing the frowns on
his brother and sister’s faces.
"We’re just trying to figure out how you got so lucky." Theresa
said forcing a smile.
"Yeah and how we got nothing." Miguel muttered.
"You two are going to find someone." Sheridan smiled. "Just give
it time."
"I’m not fond of time." Miguel complained. "I don’t have the patience’s."
"And lets face it, my love life isn’t looking to good either. Ethan
ruined my one shot at happiness."
Luis took his wife by the hand. "Theresa, you can’t give up. All
the Lopez-Fitgerald’s are going to be happy. "
"Say’s you." Miguel laughed. "You have Sheridan."
"And you and Theresa will find your Sheridan one day."
"My Sheridan?" Theresa said raising a eyebrow. "What does that mean?"
"The person you belong with, your soulmate."
"Yeah, you just keep saying that Luis." Theresa smiled.
"Theresa don’t ever give up." Sheridan smiled. "The man for you
is out there, and you’ll find him."
"I hope so." Theresa smiled. "I really do."
Theresa wiped a tear, so many memories lingered in her mind. "Gwen’s
your Sheridan, you know that right? "
Miguel sighed. "Try and convince her of that."
"I hate to break up the sibling bonding, but I would love to hug my
future daughter-in-law." Julian laughed as he walked over to Miguel and
Theresa.
"Yes, and I would also like to congratulate Theresa." Martin smiled.
Miguel stiffly stepped back, but not before shooting a glare at his
father. He felt a hand touch his shoulder and he turned around. "He’s still
your father Miguel." His mother warned. "Treat him as such."
"Mama not here, not today." Miguel frowned. "This is Theresa’s day."
"I’m so glad I made it home in time to walk my baby girl down the aisle."
Martin told Theresa.
Miguel swallowed and stepped back to stand next to Gwen. Gwen studied
his eyes for a moment, and gently took his hand in hers. "Calm down." She
whispered. "I know your upset."
His chocolate eyes looked down at her and for the first time, he could
see that she really did understand him. "Its not his place." He said in
a hurt voice. "It’s just not."
Gwen smiled his way. "I know."
"This is going to a wedding no one in this town will ever forget."
Ivy laughed clapping her hands. "We’re going to make sure of that."
Theresa smiled Ivy’s way. "I really don’t want a big wedding."
"Nonsense, this is a ‘Crane’ wedding dear, its time we show everyone
just how much we truly have changed."
Chad shot a smirk toward Theresa. "I think Theresa deserves a big wedding,
she’s earned it."
"But Chad." Theresa frowned.
"Theresa, Chad is right." Gwen smiled. "You should have your dream
wedding."
"I don’t know." Theresa frowned. "I can’t afford it."
"Afford it? Darling, as my wife pointed out, this is a ‘Crane’ wedding.
We will take care of everything. The sky is the limit, as far as I’m concerned."
Julian smiled. "My son should have the best, and I’m going to give it to
him."

Hours Later

Theresa kneeled down at the grave, placing two red roses on the ground.
"Luis, its finally happening." She whispered. "I finally found my soul
mate.." She tried to hold back tears but when the began to fall she could
only smile. "Chad’s the one Luis, he’s so perfect. He loves the kids too,
just so you know. He treats Kendra and Matthew like they are his own."
She sat for a moment just looking around, it wasn’t suppose to be this
way for her, but it was. Luis was suppose to walk her down the aisle. "At
least Papa is here, I mean that’s a good thing." She sighed unconvinced.
She had noticed the look on Miguel’s face when her father had spoke of
giving her away. It was the first she had even thought about it actually.
"I dreamed of Papa giving me away, so this is wonderful." She spoke again.
"Right?" It was suppose to be wonderful, she understood that, but looking
up at Miguel, she wondered if it was the right thing. Miguel and Luis had
been there for her, taking care of her, protecting her. The day Luis died,
Miguel stepped in, he was the one who knew her, understood everything about
her. Her father had created her, but Miguel, he had been there for her,
standing right beside Luis, always wanting his big sister to be happy.
"Luis, why can’t you be here?" She questioned. "You were suppose to give
me away, hold my hand while I walked up that aisle to Chad. This was your
job, why did you have to leave me?" She felt selfish for saying such things,
yet they poured from her mouth before she could stop them.
"Theresa." A voice behind her spoke. Wiping her eyes she quickly stood
up. He stood staring at her, gazing sadly at her for a brief moment, blue
eyes shining down on her.
"Ethan, I didn’t realize you were here." She said her voice strained.
He nodded. "I came because of Sheridan." He answered. "Because this
was where I felt I could talk to her."
"I understand." She sighed, looking down at the wedding ring on his
finger. "So, I heard about you and Beth. You really like to stay in the
news don’t ya?" She teased.
Ethan smiled. "I love her Theresa, honestly its real."
She sought his eyes and then nodded. "I believe you. I hope you two
have a wonderful life together."
"I’m glad to see you taking this calmly." Ethan told her. "I was afraid
you and Gwen would be angry with me."
Theresa smirked, "Ethan, we’ve been apart of a long time now, I only
want the best for you." Pausing she chewed on her lip. "But if I were you,
I’d stay away from Gwen for awhile."
Ethan let out a heavy breath. "Thanks for the warning." He spoke as
his eyes caught a glimpse of the object on Theresa’s finger.
She saw him stare down and she smiled. "Chad proposed last night, and
I accepted." She explained in a quite voice.
For a moment Ethan was taken back, "Wow. Looks like I’m not the only
one starting a new life."
"He really is the one for me Ethan. I love him more than I ever thought
possible. Chad Harris has been right beside me through everything. "
Putting his hands in his pockets Ethan smiled. " I know you two will
be happy together Theresa. You two have something very real."
"You and Beth, you have something real too, right?" She questioned.
"The thing we could never find?"
Lowering his head Ethan thought for a moment. What was the one thing
he and Theresa never had? He had searched his mind for a long time, trying
to figure that out. They had true love, he believed that with his whole
heart, so what was different? It was the feeling of being complete he suddenly
realized. Knowing the puzzle was finished. "Yeah, its real." He answered
without doubt. "She’s the missing piece of the puzzle."
Theresa smiled. "Then hold on to her Ethan."
Ethan wrapped his arms around Theresa. "Chad is a lucky man." He whispered.
"You’re one of the most amazing women that I have ever met."
Theresa pulled away, "Its kind of odd isn’t it?" She asked.
"Odd?"
Theresa laughed realizing she had left her thought unfinished. "Its
odd that we found love at the same time, just not with each other."
Ethan grinned. "Yes, I suppose it is."
Looking down at her watch Theresa frowned. "I’ve got to get going,
I have to take Kendra to get new shoes." Turning to leave Theresa looked
back at Ethan and waved. "Tell Beth we’ll have all get together sometime."
Theresa called out watching Ethan nod.
As she walked out of the graveyard she smiled to herself. "Mrs. Chad
Harris." She whispered as she got to her car. "Now that, I can live with."
