Little Words
"I can say it." He swallowed pacing back and forth outside her door.
"I’ll just tell her how I feel."
Taking a step toward the door he stopped. "But what if I scare her?
What if she freaks?" Again he began to pace, running his hand through his
dark brown hair. "I can’t do it." He said shaking his head. "That’s it
I just won’t do it. Not yet, not today."
"What won’t you do?" A voice spoke from behind him. Miguel Lopez-Fitzgerald
jumped as he looked around taking two steps back he suddenly lost his balance
and tripped over Gwen’s doorstep falling into her flower bed.
Holding shopping bags in her hands she began to laugh staring down
at him as his face grew red.
"Um Hey honey, how you doing?" He questioned with a shrug still sitting
in the dirt.
"Those were my favorite flowers you know." Gwen laughed her eyes filling
with tears.
Miguel stood to his feet dusting off his pants. "Yeah well you scared
me." He spoke taking her bags. "You shouldn’t just walk up on someone."
"Its my house." Gwen smirked. "Why are you standing out here anyway?"
"I came to see you." He frowned.
"Oh, so you just figured you’d stand around outside and talk to yourself?"
Miguel let out a heavy sigh. "You find this funny don’t you?"
"Watching my boyfriend fall into my flower garden/" She grinned pretending
to think. " yeah I’d say its pretty funny."
"Well laugh now Miss Priss." He smiled. "Because one day you’ll do
something just as stupid."
"Me?" Gwen mocked. "Do something foolish? Never."
"Oh that’s right, your perfect." He laughed as she opened her door
and they walked in her house.
"That’s right I am."
They both began to laugh and then Miguel realized they were back. Back
to the place they had once been. There was laughing and joking, just like
when they were new, yet now they held something more, a understanding of
each other. What they had was real, it had everything he had searched for,
Gwen was everything he had always wanted.
"Gwen, I came here to talk to you about something." He said sitting
her bags down.
"Okay, but first let me show you this dress I got. I had to fight this
woman to get it but it was so worth it." She beamed pulling out the long
green dress. "She would have never looked right in the color." She joked.
"What do you think? Is it me?" She asked holding the strapless number up
to her.
"Oh its you all right." He nodded.
"Its not as pretty as the one I’m wearing in Theresa’s wedding, but
I loved it."
"Yeah." Miguel nodded.
"I was thinking I could wear it to one of the Crane functions." She
explained.
"Yeah of course."
"So what did you want to talk to me about?" She asked searching in
her bags. "The wedding?"
"No, not the wedding. I wanted to talk about us." Miguel spoke taking
her hand as she turned around to look at him.
"Us?" She questioned. "What about us?"
"Gwen we’ve been going out for awhile, and I want you to know how much
I care about you." He began.
"Oh, I see." Gwen swallowed. "Well you know I care about you too Miguel."
"Of course I do." He smiled. "But Gwen, when I say I care, I mean I
really, really care."
There was fear in Gwen’s eyes as Miguel spoke. Fear that his words
were going to doom them. "Miguel you know how I feel about you, I turned
my back on mother because of you."
"Sweetheart I know that." Miguel sighed touching her face. "And that’s
why I’ve got to tell you how I feel, that’s why I have to let you know
how much I…"
"Miguel don’t!" Gwen quickly said stopping him mid-sentence. "Don’t
say it. Once you do you can’t take it back."
"Gwen." He said stepping back. "I don’t want to take it back. I love
you Gwen, I love everything about you, and I don’t regret that."
"You said it." She swallowed. "You love me."
"Of course I love you Gwen." He smiled bringing her closer to him.
"And I don’t expect you to feel the same and I understand why. I just wanted
you to know, I needed you to see that I am committed to us." His words
were sincere and as he spoke them Gwen could see the man behind the boyish
face.
"I’m just scared Miguel." She whispered. "Scared that I’m going to
loose you."
Miguel frowned. "Gwen look at me." He spoke. "Look at me and tell me
if I am anything like Ethan?"
"No, your not." She said shaking her head slowly. "Your not Ethan."
"And I’m not going to hurt you like he did. "I’ve only told one other
person that I loved them, and Gwen, she left me."
"Charity." She sighed.
"So if you think for one second I’m going to take off on you like Ethan
did your wrong." Wiping a tear from her eye he smiled. "Face it babe, your
stuck with me. When I find something I want, I hang on to it, and you’re
what I want."
"Even with my issues?" Gwen whimpered. "And even if it means putting
up with Mother?"
Miguel laughed. "I can handle your issues, I still love Theresa and
she’s just one big issue." He teased. "And as far as your mother, I’m not
worried about her either."
"And in ten years when I’m old you won’t decide to trade me in for
something better looking?"
"There could never be anyone better looking Gwen."
There was silence before Gwen could compose herself and then she looked
up at Miguel and smiled. "I believe in us Miguel, I finally believe in
us."

Beth Bennett entered her home her purse in one hand, the mail in the
other. "Honey you want to look at the mail? Or do you want me to?" She
laughed.
"You know bills give me a headache." Ethan grinned. "But I’ll take
it today."
Beth handed her husband the stack of mail and he frowned. "Bill, Bill,
Bill." He repeated then stopped.
"What’s that?" Beth asked watching as Ethan slowly opened up the fancy
envelope.
Slowly he read the paper inside, his eyes never leaving it. "Its a
invitation." He frowned. "To Chad and Theresa’s wedding."
"Two weeks from today right?" Beth asked. "I’m so happy for them."
"Yeah." Ethan nodded.
"Your happy for them too right Eth?" Beth asked arching a eyebrow.
"Of course I am darling." Ethan said forcing a smile. "They belong
together."
"Then why do you look like you’ve lost your best friend." Beth asked
crossing her arms.
With a sigh Ethan looked up at his wife. "I guess I didn’t realize
it was so soon."
"They’re getting married on Luis’s birthday Ethan. You knew it was
coming up."
"Yeah I know, its just strange I guess."
"Strange?" Beth spoke a frown falling to her face. "Ethan how is it
strange?"
"Things have just changed so quickly." He shrugged. "I mean mom and
Julian got back together, Gwen started dating Miguel of all people and
now, Theresa and Chad are getting married. Two years of go no one would
have thought any of that would happen."
"Yes and two years ago I would have never thought about marrying you,
but I did." Beth spoke.
"Baby." Ethan sighed. "Your my life, don’t think your not, its just
that I guess I’m just realizing how quickly things happen."
"Yeah but its all part of life Ethan." Beth walked over and smiled
up at her husband. "Things change, people fall in love, its the way it
all works."
Ethan nodded his head as he pulled his wife in for a hug. "I love you
so much Beth."
"I love you too sweetie."
"And for the record, I’m glad it was you I married." He smiled kissing
her softly. "Things did work out the way they were suppose to Beth."
"Even if its not the way you thought they would?" Beth questioned.
"I’m glad things didn’t happen the way I thought." He laughed. "Because
if they had of I’d still be traveling the world and you, you’d be here
alone."
"Hey." Beth said smacking his arm lightly. "Who says I’d be alone?"
Ethan raised his eyebrows, "Um, well."
"That’s what I thought." Beth laughed kissing him again.

"So I gots the pink dress, and Kenji got the white one." Jada said looking
up at Justin. "Then Kenji got mad at Resa when she told her she couldn’t
wear a ponytail in the wedding." Jada giggled. "But I don’t want no ponytail,
I want to be pretty."
"So that was your day?" Justin asked. "Picking out a dress for the
wedding?"
"Uh huh, but I got shoes too." She giggled. "And I got to see Resa’s
dress, she looked like a princess."
"I bet you will too." Justin smiled.
"Yelp." Jada said as they walked in the kitchen. "Daddy says we gotta
get a new house cause there’s so many rugrats." She rattled. "Justin am
I a rugrat?"
Justin laughed. "Girl I’m not sure what you are." He teased.
"I’m not going to wear those shoes!" Kendra yelled stomping into the
kitchen, Theresa right behind her.
"Kenji, they look just like Jada’s." She reasoned.
"I liked my shoes Resa." Jada smiled.
Justin snickered as he watched Kendra plop down in the chair crossing
her arms with a pout. "If I gotta wear the shoes then I want my ponytail!"
Theresa sighed. "Kenji we’ve been over this."
"I like my ponytail." Kendra pouted touching her long brown hair that
hung in a low ponytail.
"What’s all the yelling about in here?" Chad’s voice bounded as he
entered the room.
"Its her!" Kendra and Theresa said at the same time pointing to each
other.
"I think you too need a time out." Chad joked.
"I just want my ponytail." Kendra muttered glaring up at Theresa.
Chad smiled wrapping a arm around Theresa’s waist. "You can’t win with
her Resa." He whispered.
"But I’m the grown up." She whined.
Chad laughed. "She’s your brother’s child, give it up, she’ll win on
this one, just look at her." He said.
"Well we could curl it or something, put flowers in it I guess." Theresa
shrugged. "Would that work Kenji?"
"Does that mean I don’t gotta wear it down?" She asked.
Theresa let out a heavy sigh. "No, you don’t have to wear it down."
Kendra jumped from her chair and began to giggle. Running over to Theresa
she wrapped her arms around her waist and looked up at her. "Thank you
Aunt Resa."
"But you still have to wear the shoes." Theresa said bending down to
kiss her cheek.
"Okay." She shrugged.
Chad looked over at Justin, "Why don’t you take the girls outside?"
"Yeah sure, give me the little brats." Justin laughed. "And just so
you know, when you two get married I’m not playing nanny."
"That’s what you think." Chad joked as Justin ushered both girls out
of the room.
Once the kids were gone Chad wrapped his arms around Theresa. "So are
you ready for this?" He asked. "Just a couple more weeks you get me and
my little family."
"Yeah but you get mine too." Theresa laughed. "But I’m ready." She
smiled. "In fact I’m more than ready."
"So does that mean you’ve wrote your vows?" He asked with a grin.
"Have you wrote yours?" She countered.
Chad shook his head, "Well actually."
"You haven’t." She said looking at him with a amused smirk. "Chad you
haven’t wrote them yet have you?"
"What?" He asked. "I’ve got two weeks."
"But they’ve got to be perfect." She sighed. "I mean what we say, it
matters."
Chad touched her shoulder and she suddenly relaxed. "That’s why I’m
taking my time. I’ll know what to say Theresa, because all that really
matters is that I love you, and I’m going to be with you for the rest of
our lives."
"Yeah but our vows should be special." She sighed.
"And they will be." He assured her. "Our wedding will be perfect you’ll
see."
"But we still don’t have a house." She frowned. "Our family is too
big for my home or yours Chad."
"Have I ever told you that you worry way to much? I’ve been looking
at houses, and I think I’ve found the perfect place." He smiled.
"Really? Where is it? How many bedrooms? Does it have a yard? A pool?"
She quizzed getting excited. "And how much?"
Chad laughed. "Six bedrooms, three baths, a very big yard and no it
doesn’t have a pool." He told her, "But the price is one I can afford."
"So when do we look at it?" Theresa asked.
"Today if you’d like. Its not far from Dad’s house actually, that yellow
house with the huge trees in the yard."
"Chad that house is huge." Theresa frowned. "We can’t afford it."
"Its also old and needs work, so yes we can afford it." He laughed.
"How much work?" She asked.
"Not a lot, and I’ve talked to dad, he knows people that can have it
perfect in no time."
Theresa gave him a gentle smile. "We really are going to have a good
life aren’t we?"
"Yeah baby we are." Chad smiled just as Justin and the girls came running
back in, the girls squealing at the top of their lungs.
"This is going to be nice isn’t it?" Theresa smiled as Justin chased
Jada and Kendra around the kitchen counter.
"It already is." Chad answered her back dodging as Kendra ran past
him. "It already is."
