Chapter 7

The Look Of Love

"Hello. My name is Dr. Ellen Burgess and I'm here for my 12:00 appointment. My fiancee will be joining me soon. I would just like to look around for now. Thank you." Ellen and Alice browse around first before allowing a salesperson to assist them. "Mother you and I can find one without them and continue our conversation without them listening to our every word." They share a smile and begin looking. "Isn't Matt
joining you?" Alice asks intently. Ellen nods while finding the size "6" on a beautiful little number that's ecru with a lovely beaded bodice and a cincher waist. It's straight and has a long flowing train while the sleeves have beaded epaulets on the shoulders and a sheer lace on the
back of the dress. The veil looks like a crown of flowers with many beads encrusted on it.

Ellen likes it already. "Mother look. This will
make me look like I have a million flowers in my hair, you like the flower children from the 60's. I think that this will be the one!" Ellen
tries it on and Alice accompanies her and as soon as they do Matt arrives looking quite daper and the salespeople rush over to him knowing
who he is. "Good afternoon Dr. Harmon. May we assist you with anything?"

Matt smiles. "No thank you. I'm waiting for my fiancee. I'm sure that she's in the dressing room because her car is parked outside, so I'll
just wait and surprise her when she comes out. Thank you." Matt has a little surprise of his own! Ellen comes out and steps in front of the
full-length mirror and admires herself. "Oh my! You are so beautiful honey! Your father would be so proud if her were alive." Alice can't
believe how beautiful she looks and neither can Ellen! "Mother I never thougth that a dress could make SUCH a transformation. I feel like Cinderella, except my prince won't have the scour the countryside looking for me because I'll be in his arms forever more!" The salesladies approach them.

"You couldn't look any better. Many women have tried on that dress but none have come close to looking as good as you look in it! Your fiancee is a very lucky man." Matt is in the back out of their sight looking on. "Yes I am." He says loud enough for them to hear him from the back of the store. Matt emerges from the back with a long black velvet box on his lap. Their eyes meet and she smiles at him as he moves closer to her. Ellen touches his cheek and caresses it as he rubs his face against her hand's softness, enjoying the warmth that it always brings. This is just one of life's simple pleasures that
he has come to enjoy.

"You look radiant! I'm glad that you asked me to
come along. That's it! I'm marrying you right now!" Matt touches her hand and kisses it. The salesladies are somewhat surprised. "I bought
you something "new" to wear on our special day. I hope that you like it honey." Matt says as he hands the box to her. "Oh Matt! You shouldn't
have!" Alice wants to see too! She's waiting anxiously beside her daughter as Ellen slowly opens the box and just gazes at the contents.
Ellen begins to cry. "Matt it's stunning!" She takes out the flawless diamond necklace which had large stones in it. It's made of platinum and
African diamonds just like her ring. The salespeople are in awe of its beautiful as they can see it sparkle from the back, what fire it has!

Alice fastens it around her neck. Ellen moves closer to Matt and gathers HER dress around her legs and bends down close to Matt. "Thank you
honey. It's beautiful." They kiss as Matt holds her close to him not ever wanting to let her go! "Nothing comes close to being as beautiful
as you! Why don't you let Alice drive your car home and YOU ride with ME. Is that a plan?" He asks smiling. "That's a plan! Just let me
change." Matt winks at Alice, "Don't worry Alice I'll have her home by mid-night, maybe!" Matt's laughter fills the room.

Ellen and Alice go to the back. Alice is helping her change her clothes. "I'll take care of
the bill." Matt says taking out his checkbook. The saleslady notices something rather odd. "Excuse me, Dr. Harmon you ARE getting married
right, you're not already married are you?" Matt smiles knowing what she's getting at. "That's right. Is there is a problem?" Hoping that she
hadn't offended him and not wanting to lose a $5,000 sale she apologizes. "No sir. Not at all. I'm sorry for staring, it's just that your checks read 'Matt or Ellen Harmon' I thought that it was very unusual since you weren't married yet." Matt gives her a smile. "Well you know, our love is for a lifetime and what's mine is hers." This
knocks her for a loop! She gets a new dress and packages it up for Ellen. Matt holds it. Ellen goes to the counter to pay for the dress.
"It's been taken care of. You should have known that by now. Your chariot awaits." Matt and Ellen leave with smiles on their faces. One saleslady to the other, "I wish that I could find a man that rich to shower me with diamonds like that!" The other shakes her head, "They're both rich because they had the look of love written all over their faces. Their love shone like a beacon for each other. Now THAT'S what I would like to have!"
