Chapter 3

Julian sighed as he walked out of his study.

“Oh there you are Pooky!” Rebecca said in a whiny voice that floated down the hallway.

Julian sighed again as he turned towards Rebecca. He watched as she flounced towards him.

“What so you want Rebecca?” He asked.

“Now Pooky, is that any way to talk to your fiancée? I haven’t seen you much lately. What’s going on?” Rebecca pouted.

“About that Rebecca, I really don’t think that this relationship is working out.” Julian said.
“Wha…?” Rebecca stammered.

“I’ll have someone to pack your things and ship them to the hotel. The penthouse suite has been rented for you until you find other living arrangements.”

“I’ll won’t have this Julian. You kick me out and I’ll go straight to the police about your involvement with Sheridan and Luis’s boating ‘accident’.” Rebecca threatened.

“If you do, then you’ll be going to jail with me. You’ve keep this a secret for years. You’ll be considered an accomplice.” Julian smiled sweetly. “And I don’t think that you’re the jail type.”

“Fine Julian, have it your way, but I’m sure you’ll come crawling back!” Rebecca said.

I seriously doubt that I’ll want to be with you again. It’s been fun Rebecca, but it’s over. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a board meeting to get to.” Julian said. He turned and walked away.

“You think you don’t want me, but you do. You’ll be back.” Rebecca thought.

Julian climbed into his car and headed for the hospital.

“The only good thing about having to go to this meeting is the fact that I might get to see Eve.” Julian mumbled to himself.

Eve had just finished with her last patient and was filling out the paperwork when Julian walked up.

“Eve.” Julian said and softly touched her arm.

“Julian.” Eve smiled widely.

“How are you?” He asked in a concerned voice. “Have things smoothed over since the fire last week?”

“No, they seem to be getting worse.” Eve said as they walked into her office and closed the door. “TC keeps blaming me for Whitney’s leaving. He keeps saying that I haven’t been a good mother.” Eve fished just as tears began to leak from her eyes.

Julian pulled Eve into a hug. “TC’s being an idiot. You’re a wonderful mother Eve. Your daughters love you.” He pulled her closer.

“Thank you Julian.” Eve sniffled.

Julian pulled back slightly and wiped the tears from her face.

“I mean it whole heartedly Eve.” Julian promised.

“I know you do. You’ll never know how grateful I am to you for standing by me and supporting me through all of this.” Eve said as she brought her hand up to softly touch his cheek.

“I love you Eve and I’ll do anything I can for you.” He brought his hand up and covered her hand with his. He turned his had and softly kissed her palm. “I owe it to you after leaving you alone all those years ago.”

“You didn’t have a choice.” Eve said softly. “You did what you thought you had to at the time. I forgive you for that.” She smiled.

“I don’t deserve your forgiveness, but I thank you for it.” Julian said.

Eve just looked at him for a moment. She smiled as she cupped Julian’s neck with her hand and pulled him towards her. She settled her lips on his for a short sweet kiss. “You’ve got it Julian.”

“Are you finished working?” Julian asked.

“Yes, I was just finishing up when you arrived.” Eve replied.

“Would you like to go for a walk with me on the wharf?”

“I’d love to.” Eve said as she finally stepped away from Julian. “Just let me finish up some stuff really quick.”

“I’ll meet you outside when you’re done.” Julian said.

“Okay, I’ll only be a little while.” Eve promised.

“Take your time.” Was his answer.

Eve watched him walk out and turned around to put a file into the file cabinet.

“What was Julian doing here?” A voice asked.

Eve twirled around to find Liz standing in the doorway.
