I decided to try and broaden the story and include everyone. Mostly anyway.
When It’s all Said and Done. The Day of Reckoning.
New York City three months later.
Gwen sat behind her desk going over the latest acquisition. Her father
was a real tycoon. She was used to doing mergers but this…. this was cruel.
Five hundred people were going to lose their jobs. The dot.com were losing
a lot of money and her father was able to invest from the beginning. This
company lost investors and was practically bankrupt allowing for her father
to come in and hit them while they were weak.
He watched her sitting behind her desk examining something. He squinted
to get a closer look. She looked radiant but he was there to do a job he
could not allow himself to be distracted. He needed to prove himself and
she was going to help him do just that.
Gwen looked up noticing a man staring at her. Where was her damn secretary
she thought? Probably on her lunch break.
"May I help you?" Gwen shifted uncomfortably. His brown eyes seemed
to see through her and she was not comfortable with that.
"I guess you are not kept up to date without you hired help." Gwen
looked at him. "Was he being sarcastic. Calling me a snob." She thought.
"I am Alan Dominguez your 4 o clock." She looked at him again feeling
embarrassed. She laughed lightly.
"Yes Alan I apologize. Actually you are fifteen minutes late. Come
in and have a seat."
He made himself comfortable.
"So you are representing Charles Newsom?" Gwen examined his file.
"Yes."
"Honestly I do not know why you are here. You should be consulting
with our attorneys."
"I should but I would like to think that some people actually have
consciences and since you were in charge of the acquisition I thought I’d
speak to you." He smiled at her.
"Mr. Dominguez your client had been employed with us for less than
one year. He was not eligible for the type of severance package as tenured
employees. As for conscience in business there are no conscience decisions
only business decisions. Now if you do not mind any other questions should
be directed to our attorneys." Gwen smiled back.
"I would hate to see a class action lawsuit filed. You know how the
big dogs like to dab their paws in those." He stood feeling somewhat defeated
but not quite.
"I would like to see you try."
"Ms. Hotchkiss Charles has a family of four and a daughter who is very
ill. He needs this. Do you not have a soul." He looked at her with his
eyes pleading.
"Save it for Christmas time, carols and such. I am not falling for
the tiny Tim story." Gwen looked away becoming annoyed.
"Have you ever met Charles?" She nodded no.
"However I have seen his id’s so I know what he looks like. What is
your point?"
"My point is if you come with me you will see." She looked at him again
and she didn’t know why but she went with him.
*****************************************************
Whitney ran as fast as her legs could carry her. She could not believe
what she had just found out. All this time she has been fantasizing and
loving her own brother. She had kissed him. She almost fell to her knees
when her stomach lurched forward as if to purge out the perversion that
lied in her love for her brother. Of course she did not know but shouldn’t
all feelings have disappeared one she discovered he is actually her brother.
Her body was cold and weak. Her heart was filled with contempt for her
mother. Shouldn’t she have known? Shouldn’t her motherly instincts have
kicked in at some point?
Flashback
Whitney heard her parents arguing and stood outside of the door.
"You have a son. A son with Julian Crane no less." TC shouted. He
could not believe his precious sweet eve could lower herself to be with
someone as vile as Julian his archenemy. The tears stung his eyes, so many
emotions tugged at his heart, his mind. He wanted to hate her but life
was cruel.
"TC I was young and out on the street after my mother died. I found
this job in a nightclub singing and that is where we met. He was so nice
to me and he tried to help me. Tried to get me off the streets and into
an actual home. An apartment that I could come home to when before that
I had nothing. He never asked for anything in return at first, just for
me to sing to him. Eventually he ended up being the first man that I was
ever with. Then I became miserable more and more each day. He helped me
with school and I felt I owed him something. I thought our child died."
It clicked even more for TC
He laughed with out humor. "How many times did I praise you for
being so kind, so pure and you let me believe all of it. Then I asked you
if you had any secrets from me and you lied to my face." He put his hand
in his hands.
"How could I tell you TC? You said it yourself you wanted the perfect
wife. When we met TC I wanted to be that woman. I was trying so hard to
bury the past. Not just for you but because it hurt too much and I was
ashamed. I wanted to bury that woman. I never told you TC cause you would
never understand." Eve cried.
"TC I can’t, I can’t even look at you." He left.
Whitney entered her room. "Mom what is dad talking about you have
a son."
Eve sobs were so loud she did not hear her daughter. Whitney remembered
her and Chad discussing the possibility of Julian Crane being his father.
"Oh my GOD! Mooommm! Say it isn’t true! Say it! Say it’s not Chad!"
Eve looked at her daughter’s face and could only mumble "I’m sorry." That
was when Whitney bolted.
End Flashback.
All Whitney could think is why? She desperately tried to hold down the
chunks that were building in her stomach trying to make their way up through
her esophagus. She collapsed on the ground as her legs gave way.
"Whitney is that you?" She heard a voice call.
Theresa could not believe this was happening to her. Gwen was gone and Rebecca still wanted to see her unhappy. She looked out at the water.
Flashback
Theresa snuck into the Crane mansion. Tomorrow was going to be her
wedding day but she needed to have one more pre wedding rendezvous with
the groom. When she entered the mansion Ethan was sitting on the couch
alone. He seemed to be in deep thought and he was holding some sort of
folder. He did not even hear her come in.
"Ethan what is it?" He looked up not at all happy to see her. His
face did not light up as it usually did.
"It’s you my darling. You a woman of such character yet so good.
So kind and innocent well not quite so innocent anymore." he smiled.
"You the one woman in this world I could trust." His voice was monotone.
"Did he just say could?" Theresa thought. "Could he know?"
"Ethan there is something I need to tell you before we get married."
His voice caused her to jerk back
"Please Theresa. Your confession is just a little too late! I have
managed to grow a brain in the past few hours! I asked you not once not
twice, if you knew anything and yet you lied to my face! You lie to my
face and tell me how much you love me in the same breath." He stood up
starting to pace. He had not wanted to confront her with such anger in
but seeing her stand there he could not help release his anger.
"Ethan I did it for you for us. I was told if I told you."
"Stop. Do you think I could ever believe another word out of your
lying mouth? Get out! I never want to see your face again. Gwen was right
about you all this time she was right. If there is any way that I can make
it up to her I will." The last part was said more for spite than anything.
"Wh What?" Theresa’s mascara was steadily running down her cheeks
mixed with salty tears.
"You heard me now get out or security will see you out." He left
her standing trembling.
End Flashback
"Ethan I just cannot live without you. I just can’t" Theresa cried as
she climbed the railing overlooking the water. She closed her eyes and
prepared to meet her final fate. For life without Ethan was no life at
all. She felt strong arms pull her back.
"Theresa what the hell are you doing?"
