Ch.10
Eve entered Julian’s office again faking her best smile, her eyes met
Julian’s and he instantly frowned.
"You look upset Eve. You’ve been crying." He said making his way toward
her.
"I’m fine Julian. Did you get things settled with you’re daughter?"
Eve asked avoiding his question.
"Jasolyn hasn’t changed. I love all my children you must understand
that Eve, but Jasolyn can’t be trusted. " He sighed.
"She’s a real piece of work isn’t she." Eve questioned.
"She’s trouble Eve. Promise me you’ll watch yourself, there is no telling
what she might try." He frowned. "Jasolyn had a sick gleam in her eye when
she left my office, and that can only mean one thing. She’s up to something."
Eve nodded. "I can handle myself Julian. But do you think she will
try to hurt Chad or Theresa? She seems sure they are after you’re money."
Eve said concern in her face and voice for her son.
Julian sat down on the edge of his desk. "Jasolyn doesn’t care who
she hurts. When the children were little I stopped giving them money for
awhile, to make them earn it with chores, The boys and Ericka had no problem
with that, but Jasolyn, she sold half of Ericka’s dolls and most of her
toy’s. My little girl cried for weeks." He frowned.
"And that was when she was little?" Eve said shocked.
Julian nodded. "Have you looked in her eyes Eve? I mean really looked
in them?" He frowned.
Eve cringed swallowing. "Its like staring at you’re father." She said
sitting down in a chair.
Julian nodded. "She is so much like him, worse I fear. "
Eve shook her head. "Julian we can’t let her hurt Chad. He’s so in
love with Theresa, we can’t let anything hurt that." She said almost in
tears.
"Eve darling, don’t cry. She won’t hurt him, our son is strong and
intelligent and he loves Theresa with all his heart. He’d never leave the
woman he is meant to be with."
Eve wiped a tear. No her son would never walk away from Theresa, He
wouldn’t do that to the person he loved. He was strong and determined,
and love was so important to him, not even someone like Jasolyn Crane could
break Chad and Theresa up.
"But what if she does something Julian? What if she tries something
like." She stopped suddenly and lowered her head.
Without thinking Julian frowned. "Like father did to us?" He questioned
reading her mind.
Eve looked up and nodded. "Yes Julian. Like what that man did to us?"
She asked finally.
Julian felt his heart drop, it had been years since he had let himself
think of how badly he had hurt Eve. When he thought about her, he thought
about the good things, the love they shared, rarely had he thought about
what he had done.
"Chad is a better man than I am." He finally said after silence had
entered the room for longer than he could stand. "Our son is nothing like
me, Eve. I was a fool at a young age, but Chad he’s not like me. " He finally
said looking into the hurt eyes of the mother of his son.
"Julian, I wasn’t blaming you." Eve began but Julian but his hand out
to stop her.
"Why not? It’s my fault. I let father get to me Eve. I was a weak coward.
I know you’ve thought it, why not say it?" He questioned finally admitting
to a mistake that had cost them both so much.
Eve was shocked Julian Crane was staring into her eyes, admitting his
wrong doing. For a moment as she looked in his eyes she could see the man
she had once loved, the honest Julian that she had once trusted.
Could he really be going back to that man? No, she wouldn’t believe
it, he was still the same man that had hurt her, broke her heart. He was
still one of the reasons she didn’t have a chance to raise her son.
"Julian please, I’m worried about Chad. Let’s not do this now." She
said snapping out of her thoughts.
Julian looked at her and let a grin fall on his face. "Some things
never change do they my dear? You still avoid talking about things that
get to you. "
Eve sighed, "Julian, I’m just worried about Chad. Please lets not rehash
our past. It won’t be good for either of us. "
"As you wish." He said as his phone rang. "Excuse me." He said to Eve
as he picked up the phone. "Hello, Julian Crane." He said listening, as
smile came to his face. "Chad son how are you?" He said looking over at
Eve as she raised her head and listened.
"Dinner tonight? I can make it." He answered. " Son, she’s right here,
Would you like me to ask her?" Looking over at Eve he smiled, "Chad and
Theresa want to know if we will have dinner with them tonight."
Eve thought for a moment and nodded. "Of course." She answered back.
"Its all set. Where did you have in mind?" He asked. "Lobster Shack
sounds wonderful, we’ll see you then." He said hanging up the phone.
Eve looked at Julian curiosity all over her face. "Did Chad say why
he wants to have dinner?" She questioned.
"No, just that they wanted to spend time with us." He answered.
"That’s sweet of them." Eve smiled.
"Yes, it is." Julian agreed.
Eve stood to her feet, " Julian, our son needs us. That’s why I came
here today. He’s getting married and I believe its important for us to
get along."
"Eve I want that also. You are the mother of my first born, I want
to be able to talk to you and such." Julian smiled.
Eve nodded. "But I also think its important that Chad understand, that
if anything, we are just friends. He maybe a grown man but we must make
sure he doesn’t get the wrong idea." Eve explained.
"You think he would want us together." Julian questioned his heart
skipping a beat.
Eve shrugged. "It wouldn’t shock me. It would be a normal. But we must
try not to mislead him. And Julian we must make sure Jasolyn doesn’t hurt
him. I won’t allow it, I don’t care who’s child she is." Eve said firmly.
"I understand Eve, and I feel the same."
Eve walked toward the door. "I’m glad we’re clear on these things."
Suddenly Julian called out to Eve just as she opened the door. "Eve
wait."
Turning she looked back, "Yes Julian."
"He really does have you’re smile." He said a gleam in his eye.
Eve felt her cheeks go red. "And his eyes sparkle much like yours Julian."
She admitted as she exited the room.
Julian fell back into his chair. "That woman has no idea how special
she truly is." He said to himself as he went back to work. "No Idea."
